Kyzlinková, Marcela ; Stará, Jana (advisor) ; Uhlířová, Jana (referee)
The key aim of this work is a method of patriotic education in our schools, mainly in the first grade of primary schools. The point of this work is to awaken patriotism in society again. In the first step we are informed about the important ideas that enable to develope the assumptions neccesary for the patriotic recognition and for an increase in patriotic feeling. The theory pays the attention to morality, influencing behaviour; for example, material and physical values and the aesthetic. It describes each historical term individually, from the beginning of national recovery during the first half of 19th century to the present days. It underlines the need to understand correctly the individual ideas and it points out the general chaos and risks of their interpretations in society. It recognises the important tasks that our society has to face to maintain the education of patriotism succesfully. The practical aspect contains the class discussions, interwiews and analysis of individual pupils, teachers, directors and it compares the level and quality of class debats with teacher`s attitude. The main thing was to find out the teachers' personal feeling about patriotism, his or her attitude towards its education and the way he or she communicates this during the lessons.
The current czech nationalism in extreme right
Bauer, David ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
Aim of the thesis is to describe and analyse the role of nationalism in contemporary Czech extreme right movements. Its author has two fundamental objectives. The first is to evaluate strength and relevance of contemporary Czech nationalism within extreme right movements. The second objective consists in the analysis of nationalism itself, which should reveal the true nature of these organizations and their ideological platform. This thesis presents an overview of Czech extreme right spectrum. It was essential to select movements that mutually differ and therefore represent various manifestations of Czech right extremism. All three platforms can be classified as extreme right movements strongly resonating with Czech nationalism. They see themselves as patriots who defend conservative values and national traditions. Revue of The National Idea represents an attempt to create a sophisticated, intellectual forum providing conditions for ultra-right views and ideas. D.O.S.T. movement acts as a conservative "people's initiative", standing against multiculturalism and the European Union. The National Party is then an example of extreme political grouping with traces of populism, xenophobia and pure racism. Content analysis of these three movements is the main topic of the thesis. Examining their goals,...
National Ideology of the Sokol Movement in the First Two Decades of its Existence
Formánková, Kateřina ; Storchová, Lucie (advisor) ; Šima, Karel (referee)
The aim of this work is to analyze the linguistic representations in the early texts of Sokol and to show to what extent and how the discourse of Sokol is built on national- ideological grounds. I understand national ideology as a complex principle, yet unbounded and undefinable, which connects and develops certain assumptions, ideas and, in the case of the 19th century, especially ideals for their massive expansion and acclaim. This is happening through a specific Sokol discourse. Within this discourse, I will distinguish between different levels on which the ideals connecting gymnastic and nationalist interests are produced using different argumentative and narrative devices. The work contains of three analytical parts. The first one deals with the discursive mechanisms - repeated argumentation or narrative strategies and rhetorical devices. In the second part, I deal with Sokol conception of the ideal man and the third part deals with question, how specifically the ideal person is involved in the prosperity of the nation, therefore in the declared main objective of Sokol efforts. Keywords: Sokol, nation, ideology, physical education, health
Myth and National Identity
Chytrý, Lukáš ; Procházka, Martin (advisor) ; Znojemská, Helena (referee)
The thesis aims to explore the relationship between national identity and the myth. Key to the analysis are the questions of the manner in which a collective identity becomes dependant on literary narrations as well as the particular motives that constitute these narrations. The analysis of the relationship is carried out in reference to particular literary texts. The discussion is based on the critical approach of literary theory and the analyses of relevant socio-political aspects. The discussion is based on a comparative approach to the chosen literary texts. The comparative method focuses on the socio-political and historical contexts of the literary works, as well as on the different concepts of communal identity portrayed. Key texts to the debate are the collection of poems of James Macpherson, Poems of Ossian, Sir Walter Scott's historical novel, Waverley, and the Czech Manuscripts of Dvůr Králové and Zelená Hora. This thesis commences the discussion with a theoretical approach to the relationship between myth and history. The discussion aims at the manner in which both the mentioned elements constitute collective identity. The thesis emphasises those aspects which give rose to manipulative statements and conceptions that shape the discourse. To the fore thus comes the question of...
Dialogue Rádl versus Hejdánek
Doležal, Kryštof ; Kučera, Jan (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
The problem of nation and nationalism is the subject of reflections in Czech political thought from the late 19th century; broader problem with definition of nation and its meaning constitutes more than centennial polemic called "the Czech question". This bachelor thesis inquiries chapter of this controversy, the works of two Protestant philosophers: Emanuel Rádl and Ladislav Hejdánek. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare concepts of these authors that are related to the nation, nationalism and philosophy of history. Furthermore, this bachelor thesis discloses continuity of certain idealistic-theological tradition, whose roots are discoverable (according to one interpretation) in ancient Israel. For Rádl and Hejdánek nation is a moral category, which is why the ethic aspects are central motive for their analysis of nation.

The bachelor thesis deals with the representation of Czech national identity in the show called DějePIC! (2017). It's a family TV cycle about Czech history. The thesis is based on the assumption, that the media participate on defining the concept. The outcome of this thesis is the analysis of the interpretations of Czech national identity in the chosen show. In the first part I presented the key theoretical concepts, which are the national identity and the connected collective memory, then medial construction of reality and the forming of national identity in media. The research sample consists of all the 32 episodes of the DějePIC! Show (from September 2017 until December 2018) which are...
The poetics of the Czech nationalism and the policy of identity of the Czech Jews between nation, race and class (1876-1921)
Strobach, Vít ; Pullmann, Michal (advisor) ; Frankl, Michal (referee) ; Barša, Pavel (referee)
The thesis submitted by me deals with two interconnected problems. The first part of the text consists of an analysis of changes of the Czech nationalistic discourse, with an emphasis on periods of political crises in the years 1897 - 1899 and 1918 - 1920. I attempt, primarily, to picture the importance of racial analysis - a transcription of nationalistic discourses into biological terms on the background of the struggle for recognition of those public spheres which tried, at the end of the 19th century, to enter the political space defined as the Czech national society. Racial analysis became, within the discourse, one of the strategies of this struggle for recognition and means of expression of opposition against the liberal conception of equality and the state that represented such a liberal order (i.e. the Austro-Hungarian monarchy). Following the First World War, the function of racial analysis changed: this time, racial war discourses helped to preserve the integrity of the national state and the notion of a common national interest. In the second part, which is more analytical and extensive, I try to explain how the modern policy of the Jewish identity formed itself in the given political space. First, I outline the form and development of languages of political identity integrating liberal and...
