Microcosms: the phenomenon of Zine and its application in art education

The bachelor's thesis will try to clarify the phenomenon of zine and find its application in art education. Zines are presented here as means of communication and creativity. They are non- commercial, low-cost publications that are usually produced within an interest group or subculture. The theoretical part will deal with the emergence of the zine medium, its various characteristics and meanings, and will focus on contemporary approaches to it. It will examine the possible benefits of the medium of zine in pedagogy and make suggestions on how to integrate zine into teaching, specifically in art education. The framework curricula and teachers' experience will be taken into account. In the practical part, the process of creating a collective zine will be presented, when the young generation of creators will be approached in order to create a coherent series of illustrations and designs. Possibilities of using television programmes and shows in practical activities at the first grade of primary school

This thesis deals with the topic of the use of television programmes and shows in the teaching of practical activities at the first grade of primary school. The theoretical part is focused on the characteristics of a pupil of the younger school age, inquiry-based instruction and teaching, and the goals and concepts of primary technical literacy. The preparatory studies also discuss the technical areas of the Framework Curriculum for Primary Education, the cross-cutting theme of Media Education and characterise selected television educational programmes and shows. In the practical part, there are five themes which are processed, including didactic documentation, into the form of original preparations for teaching at the first grade of primary school. The effectiveness of some of the themes has been verified.
Jak učit o fake news?

This diploma thesis examines the phenomenon of fake news and focuses on the pedagogical aspects of teaching about it. Initially, it presents the fundamental elements that underpin the phenomenon. The thesis explores the formation of news and its transmission to recipients, followed by an exploration of the concept of fake news. Furthermore, the thesis provides a historical overview of fake news, divides it into distinct periods, while also considering the impact of technological advancements on information dissemination. The discussion then delves into cognitive and social biases, highlighting their influence on individuals' susceptibility to fake news. The thesis subsequently introduces various literacies (information, media a digital) that can aid in combatting fake news, also presents initiatives of international agencies such as UNESCO and the European Commission, as well as the national strategy outlined in the Education Framework Programme. Additionally, the thesis examines existing methodologies that address the pedagogical aspects of teaching about fake news. Building on the theoretical part, the thesis develops teaching units that cover relevant topics related to fake news. These units encompass activities such as role-playing, critical analysis of texts, exploration of cognitive biases and the historical context of fake news. Most of these teaching units have undergone practical testing to ensure their effectiveness.
Perspectives on the Media Literacy in the Czech Republic

The bachelor thesis consists of two parts. A theoretical part that explains the terms used to implement the work and describes its theoretical basis, and a practical part in the form of written interviews with respondents from the field of media education. The theoretical part introduces the interview genre and describes its possible methods, approximates the requirements of media education contained in the framework educational programs and recommended expected outputs, and presents projects focused on media literacy. The practical part of the work consists of interviews with Přemysl Danda, PhDr. Jan Jirák Ph.D., Michal Kaderka and PhDr. Radim Wolák.
New media as a means of obtaining information among secondary school students

This diploma thesis entitled New media as a means of obtaining information among secondary school students deals with the role of new media in obtaining information among students of the second year of grammar schools and non-grammar school types of secondary schools. The aim of the thesis is to find out what news consumption looks like among secondary school students, whether they get information only through new media, or if some of them turn to traditional media as well. The theoretical part of the thesis describes what new media look like today, or whether they can be an easier means of spreading disinformation. Part of the work is devoted to how different authors view media literacy. The topic of the theoretical part is also the news consumption of young people - what means media literacy, whether young people are able to distinguish between information and disinformation, and that problematic media use can, in the worst case, end up in cyberbullying. The analytical section is devoted to a questionnaire survey, which was carried out among students of the second year of secondary schools in seven regions. 314 students in the respective regional towns participated in the research. Media literacy in the digital age: Ethnic and national stereotypes in the media and their impact on high school youth

This bachelor's thesis examines the influence of the media on youth and explores it through the focus on ethnic and national stereotypes in the media. Through a quantitative method of questionnaire survey distributed among high school students in the Karviná region, it examines the ways of media consumption, experiences with media representation of ethnic and national minorities, as well as attitudes towards the represented reality. It also examines how students themselves perceive the influence of the media and what media and digital literacy tools they are aware of themselves. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the current state of media influence on youth, ethnic and national stereotype theory and digital literacy. The practical part is devoted to the analysis and presentation of the results of the questionnaire survey.
Media education and literacy of future teachers of health education at the Fakulty of Education of Charles University

Master thesis Media education and literacy of future teachers of health education at the Fakulty of Education of Charles University deals with the issue of their readiness to teach this area in schools. The aim of the thesis was to find out to what extent students of the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Health Education are ready to implement media education in schools. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the theoretical definition of media education and literacy and related terminology. Furthermore, I have included in my work the historical development and gradual inclusion of this issue in Czech curriculum documents. In the practical part, using quantitative and qualitative methods, research was conducted with the participation of 34 selected students, which focused on the readiness of future teachers to teach media education in schools. The data arising from the questionnaire survey were graphically processed and commented. Furthermore, the views of four respondents on the issue of teaching on this topic are part of my thesis. The research revealed that most students had been marginally exposed to media education during their undergraduate studies, but felt this preparation was insufficient for their future teaching practice. Use of film in teaching humanities

The diploma thesis called Use of film in the teaching of humanities deals with the topic of utilization of film in education. The aim of the thesis is to find out how films are used during lessons, to explore the advantages and disadvantages of watching films and finally, to determine what films teachers prefer. The theoretical part describes basic information about the usage of films as a teaching method, media education, critical thinking and copyrights. This part also contains bibliography. The practical part is dedicated to qualitative research, analysis and interpretation of the findings.
Media Issues as a Topic for Children's University Education

This bachelor thesis deals with children´s universities which are one of various forms of informal education in the Czech republic as well as worldwide. They work mainly with gifted children, among other things they also help enrich children´s free-time activities. Most of those activities can be found at Czech universities and their parts. One of those places is the Pedagogical Faculty in České Budějovice which concentrates on various fields that reflect the faculty specialisation. Media education is an important part of the content of the children´s university. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide an overview of children´s universities and then focus on a specific content of one of the lessons introducing children to media issues. In addition to defining goals of media education in school or extracurricular educational levels, the work focuses on designing topics and activities with media issues, especially those that are suitable for children aged from six to fifteen attending children´s universities.
Media education in teaching of history of the post-February Czechoslovakia (including the South Bohemian region)

The presented thesis deals with the period 1948-1960 in Czechoslovakia in the teaching of history from the perspective of media education. Media education, as one of the cross-cutting themes of the Framework Educational Programmes, is conceived here mainly in terms of the influence of the media on public opinion. Based on the analysis of current history textbooks, the work deals with topics that are a suitable example of contemporary communist propaganda. Among the selected topics are political persecution, the currency reform of 1953, the reflection of propaganda in art and the campaign accompanying the fight against the potato beetle. The core of the work is the publication of materials, especially of a written and visual nature, which appropriately illustrate contemporary propaganda. At the very end of the work presents several model worksheets for teaching history, which are based on these materials.
