Literature in the works of theologians - the example of Karl Barth and Rudolf Bultmann

The aim of the proposed Bachelor thesis named Literature in the works of theologians - the example of Karl Barth and Rudolf Bultmann is to assess the significance of German literature in selected works of the aforementioned theologians. In the case of Karl Barth's, the analysis is concerned with the reception of classical German authors (Römerbrief, 1919) and Dostoevsky (Römerbrief, 1922). A separate part is devoted to examining the relevant excerpts from his correspondence with the German writer Carl Zuckmayer towards the end of the theologian's life. In Rudolf Bultmann's cas, the attention is pointed at broader hermeneutic contexts, especially at the relations of culture and religion after the World War I, and Bultmann's reaction to Deschner's criticism of the role of religion from the end of the 1950s, Furthermore, an analysis of a selection of homilies form after the World War I is included, along with a brief characterization the specifics of this particular discourse. Joseph Georg Meinert and His Work in the Context of the German Cultural Life in the Czech Lands at the End of the 18th and in the First Half of the 19th Century.

The presented thesis contextualizes Joseph Georg Meinert's life and his writings in German spiritual life in the Czech lands at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. It aims to analyze the subject matter of the whole spectrum of his works. His writings attest to the life of this German-speaking teacher, tutor and professor as well as scholar. Equally, they show the cultural and historical development at the time when the patriotism in the Habsburg monarchy begun to evolve. In the thesis Mainert's texts are divided into groups according to their genres and recurring themes and motives. Next, the texts are analyzed by comparison with the information occurring in the secondary literature and the preserved fragments of Meinert's diaries. The results of the analysis confirm that Meinert's creations authentically documented the historical, political and cultural circumstances of that time. The creations influenced not only the patriotically thinking fellows and writers in the Austrian, Czech and German lands, but as an editor he also had influence on the less educated readers of his journals. Perspectivity and Catastrophe. The Ambivalence of Progress

Human perspectivity, furthermore progress in all it's categories (for example technical, social or ethical progress) and finally the decline of a culture, are the main emphasizes of this thesis. It will address the issues of what human perspectivity is about and how it behaves towards progress and a cultural-socially overall structure. In historical context, the evolution of progress is set in relation to the evolution of human perspectivity. After the explaining of these two components and the connection between them, lastly, using a concrete example with the perished Easter Island in the southern pacific, it will be shown, how and why civilizations go through certain stages like early culture, high culture and late culture. So the point of this thesis is, to show, how and why human civilizations come to an end and what we should learn from them. Aside from other factors (for example military conflicts with enemies from the outside, which can lead also to a disaster of a culture), in this thesis the focus is on a cultural-ecological research of a self-inflicted catastrophe. The thesis is completed with a proposed solution for the above mentioned problems to improve the relationship between man and his environment, especially the animal. The Age of Rudolph II because of Some German Written Documents from 1578-1598. A Historical and Linguistic Study.

The presented thesis deals with an analysis of five selected documents written in German and published by Rudolf II in Prague between 1578 and 1598. The textual source material therefore serves as an illustration of the German language used in the offices located on the Czech territory in the 16th century. The thesis is concerned with the political and social attitudes in the Czech lands in the last quarter of the 16th and at the beginning of the 17th century; the figure of Rudolf II and his relationship to Prague are also presented. Furthermore, the thesis mentions the main features and figures of the cultural life in Rudolfian Prague, alchemy and science, followed by a chapter describing Rudolf II's Prague office with regard to German as the language of the Prague office. The aim of the thesis is to textologically analyze the documents with a focus on their Macrostructure and Microstructure and therefore contribute to the research of the German language used in the offices in the last quarter of the 16th and at the beginning of the 17th century in the territory of the Czech lands.

Presented thesis deals with the personality of Czech-German author Karel Klostermann in the context of Czech-German relations. The structure of the work is based on the general outline of the cultural life in the Czech lands during the life of Karel Klostermann, then on the personality of Karel Klostermann and describes his career from the Czech-German viewpoint and on the work of Karel Klostermann in connection with the Czech-German issues. The aim of this work lies in observing the personality of Karel Klostermann and reflection of Czech- German relations in his life and work. There is captured within this theme the extent to which the author is perturbed by the Czech and German elements and to what extent this issue emerges in his work. The aim is also to depict the perception of linguistically non-homogenous society through the eyes of Karel Klostermann.
