The Comparison of the basic doctrinal Documents CČSH and ČCE
Vejvoda, Michal ; Vogel, Jiří (advisor) ; Kučera, Zdeněk (referee)
Summary: Srovnání základních věroučných dokumentů CČSH a ČCE The Comparison of the basic doctrinal Documents CČSH and ČCE Michal Vejvoda The Comparison of the basic doctrinal Documents in their broader context has lead into surprising discovery of their similarity, though with more or less important differences. Especially the doctrine of faith (rules of faith), by which ČCE (Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren ) finds their source by interpretation of the Word of God while inspired be the Holy Spirit and for CČSH (Czechoslovak Hussite Church) it is the Spirit of Christ. With a closer look at it you will find a similar concept of this rule. Another difference is a concept and approach towards the church itself, CČSH talks about God's Church as a visible, tangible human fellowship, whereas ČCE talks about an invisible God's Church, operating within concrete fellowship. Another difference, this time practical one, is a number of celebrated, (served) sacraments; nonetheless this difference is suppressed by its similarity and the approach towards them. Within CČSH is more obvious the emphasis on a church as an institution, in the Basics ČCE on their function within an environment of current world. Thus both churches are very close in their beliefs and their peculiar emphasis is rather complimentary and in...

The Legal Order of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren - History and Present
Csukás, Adam ; Horák, Záboj (advisor) ; Tretera, Jiří Rajmund (referee) ; Přibyl, Stanislav (referee)
The Legal Order of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren - History and Present The aim of this thesis is to gather available sources concerning the legal order of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (ECCB) since its establishment in 1918 to the present day. The sources used address the legal history of the Protestant Church in Cisleithania from 1848 until the end of World War I. A critical analysis of the sources is carried out to document the development of the church constitution and the orders of the ECCB. The criteria for the elaboration of individual storylines are primarily the historical relevance and the practical applicability of the information regarding the ECCB Strategic Plan of 2019. The thesis consists of an introduction, followed by three parts, and a conclusion. The first part, (1848-1922), comprises four chapters covering the legal history of the Protestant Church in Cisleithania from the revolutionary years 1848/1849 until the dissolution of Austria-Hungary and the establishment of both Czechoslovakia and the ECCB. Particular attention is given to the circumstances surrounding the creation of the church constitution of 1861, the constitutional reform efforts of the Czech-speaking Czech and Moravian Protestants of both confessions (Augsburg and Helvetic), the movement of...
Long Journey to Freedom: The Life of Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in 1968-1989 in the Testimony of the Older Generation of its Ministers.
Pfann, Michael ; Moree, Pieter (advisor) ; Šebek, Jaroslav (referee) ; Kunter, Katharina (referee) ; Fitschen, Klaus (referee)
The aim of the dissertation is to find an answer to the question of whether the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (ECCB) in the years 1968-1989 could be considered "free" in any way. This work describes the life of the ECCB in that period and the ways of the freedom und unfreedom the ECCB enjoyed and formed. Thereby, the research is based on the careful analysis of documents of church and state archives and the results of ten author-led biographical interviews with then active pastors. Combining these methods and sources, the dissertation offers an innovative view on the ECCB in the period and provides new, deeper, and more personal insights into the processes of the time. The first four chronological chapters describe the situation and development of the ECCB during the socio-political liberalisation during the Prague Spring and during the years after the Warsaw Pact troops' invasion of Czechoslovakia, when the so-called "normalisation" began. The fifth chapter presents the main strategies that the church developed in reaction to the restriction of its freedom. The sixth chapter presents the perspective of two ministers of the ECCB on their contacts with the representatives of the state authorities in the form of a case study. An insight in the internal life of the church and the forms of the church...

Transformations of Diakonia in the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren
ŠIMR, Karel
The thesis aims to contribute to the theoretical grounding of diakonia as the Christian-oriented practice of helping in modern society. Methodologically the author works with the social systems theory developed by Niklas Luhmann, which enables a differentiated description of the multidimensional reality of Christian helping action in its historical development and present situation. In the first part, the topic is theologically grounded ? biblically, historically and dogmatically. Then the main features of social systems theory are presented. Emphasis is placed on the dual ? primary (functional) and secondary (social) ? differentiation in society and its consequences for understanding diakonia. In this context diakonia is observed as the structural coupling of the systems of social help and Christianity and subsequently defined as helping in gospel perspective, which can be observed at micro-, meso- and macro-levels, i.e., in the context of interaction, organization and society ? and at the same time different theories must be developed for Christian helping at the individual levels. In the second part, the sociological description of the differentiation of diakonia is first confronted with theologically-oriented descriptions of differentiation in the context of Christianity and, following especially Wichern?s division of diakonia into civic, free and ecclesial, attention is focused on the ?tripod of diakonia? in the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren in the form of Diaconia of ECCB, Christian service and diaconate. This multi-focus view of diakonia makes it possible to reflect on its mutually irreducible layers and search for adequate theories for each of them. In the formation of the Christian dimension of the organization emphasis is placed on cultivating an adequate organization culture. Interaction has to do with the mutual ?neighborly? help within a community. The specific function of diaconate is identified in constructing bridges between the ecclesial level of Christianity and its connection with the system of social help, as well as other partial systems in society ? and in this sense it is perceived as again highly relevant. In the concluding chapter, the communication-based approach of social systems theory is correlated with the practical-theological paradigm of gospel communication. In this context diakonia is understood as an inseparable part of ?gospel communication?.
