Pandemics and parental beliefs about returns to education
Korbel, Václav
This study summarises the findings of an empirical survey of the impacts that interruptions to in-person teaching in schools had on parents’ expectations about the returns to their financial and time investments in their children’s education. The study made use of four repeated questionnaire surveys carried out during 2020 and 2021, in which parents responded to hypothetical scenarios involving two fictitious families who invest different amounts of time and money in their children’s education. On the basis of these scenarios, the parents estimated how much each fictitious child would earn at the age of 30, taking into account the given level of investment in their education. They also estimated how much the quality of the child’s schooling would impact their future earnings. This experimental methodology enables us to identify how parents’ expectations changed during the pandemic.\n

Nutrition of primary school boys in 7th-9th grade in the Covid-19 pandemic during and after distance education
KVĚTOVÁ, Kristýna
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of children's diet and the impact of distance education on their nutrition. The aim was to map the somatic development of boys in 7th-9th grade, to assess adherence to proper dietary recommendations, and to compare the diet during the Covid-19 pandemic with the diet after distance. The theoretical part deals with the energy needs of children and its components, the importance and need of macronutrients and the most important micronutrients for the children's group. It also discusses recommendations for children's nutrition, drinking regime and physical activity, issues related to children's diet, assessment of somatic development and last but not least the relation of the covid-19 pandemic to the topic. A total of 10 boys were involved in the research part of the work, with each boy provided a seven-day dietary record. A qualitative method using semi-structured interview was chosen to collect data. The interviews were then compiled into case reports along with measured anthropometric data, and the information from the weekly dietary record, including the average daily nutrient calculations made using software Nutriservis Professional and Kalorické tabulky, was assessed in the dietary results. The results showed that the majority of boys were at the higher percentiles with their BMI and weight measurements. During the distance education period, the informants experienced a concurrent increase in both BMI and weight percentiles, with half of them remaining unchanged in height percentile. An assessment of the individual dietary recommendations found that informants were generally not following any of the recommendations. On the positive side, consumption of sweet and salty treats was lower, but this was compensated for by sweetened beverages in half of the informants. During the distance education, boys showed a negative change in the groups of fruit and vegetables, dairy, sweet and salty snacks, and also a change in drinking regime.
Impact of the use of CLIL method in Biology lessons at lower-secondary level in relation to level of acquired knowledge and skills
HARTLOVÁ, Natálie
The presented diploma thesis is focused on the creation of worksheets that are consistent with the CLIL method (content and language integrated learning). The literary research deals with integrated learning and the approaches used in practise (e. g. CLIL, STEM). There are described the fundamental principles of CLIL teaching, the required competencies of the CLIL teachers, the techniques of planning CLIL lessons and their fundamental structure. There are also described distance education and modern technologies that can be used in education. The teaching methods are part of the literary research as well and these methods relate to the created didactic materials. The main aim of this diploma thesis was to create teaching materials that connect the teaching of the English language and the chosen topic of Biology. The created CLIL materials are designed for the pupils of the 9th grade of secondary schools, and they deal with the topic of the energy industry. All created materials respect the 4C system, which is one of the tools how to prepare lessons where the CLIL method is used. The chosen learning activities were verified in practise and the course of this verification is described in the methodical part of this thesis. The sub-goal of this thesis was to evaluate the impact of the teaching materials in relation to the level of acquired knowledge and skills. There are also described some of the methodical recommendations.

The paternal help during the home preparation for school of children in the early school age
MONTAGOVÁ, Kristina Simona
This bachelor thesis investigates and describes the spectrum of the parental ways which parents use to help their children (in the early school age) during the home preparation for school or during the home-based distance education. The investigation has been carried out on the basis of five interviews with the mothers of the younger scholars (2nd - 4th grade). The interviews have been transcribed, coded, analysed and evaluated using the qualitative research methods. I focused mainly on these research questions: How do parents experience their role and relation to their children during the home preparation for school, how did the parents experience the new covid-19 pandemic situation and home-based distance education and how do parents get involved in the home preparation and home-based education of their children? The results of the research concern mainly the fact whether the respondents experience their role rather as supporting the autonomy of the child or rather as monitoring and controlling one, and the connected consequences. Further more they concern the coping strategies the mothers used in order to cope with the difficult situation of the home-based distance education of their children during the covid-19 pandemic and the ways of a direct or an indirect parents' involvement in the home preparation and distance education.
Disease, Education and Medics: the Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Medical Students
Chvojková, Samantha ; Lánský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Samek, Tomáš (referee)
In March 2020, the Czech Republic began to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic, a state of emergency was repeatedly declared in the Czech Republic and various measures were taken. These measures included: restrictions on physical (and with it social) contact, restrictions on tourism, business and services, work obligations for students of pedagogical and medical faculties, school closures and the transition to distance learning, and much more. This work is devoted to qualitative research among medical students, whose studies have been significantly disrupted by distance learning, interruption of internships and the announcement of work duties. The main goal of this work is to find out what risks related to the Covid-19 pandemic are perceived by medical students themselves in terms of their studies and future practice? As part of the qualitative research that I will prepare and implement, semi-structured interviews with 6 students of the last two years of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine at Charles University will be evaluated. The aim is therefore to find out how medical students view their studies before and during the covid-19 epidemic; how they cope with the effects of this crisis and what they think about it; what they think will affect their future and the level of care they will be able to...
