Ptáčková, Vladimíra ; Švermová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Šustová, Magdaléna (referee)
The object of this diploma thesis is an octalingual dictionary from 16th century from the collections of the Pedagogical Museum J.A. Komenského in Prague. The title page of this dictionary is missing and therefore the origin, the author and the range of users, who the dictionary was intended for, are not known. The aim of this diploma thesis was to confirm or disprove the hypothesis that the dictionary should have served tradesmen and travellers. The methods used were translation, language analysis of the phrase-book and the thematic analysis of the contents of the dictionary. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis deals with lexicography. It introduces the definition of a dictionary and various types of dictionaries with the most attention paid to translational dictionaries. Thereafter, the development of Czech lexicography from its beginning until nowadays is presented. The theoretical section also contains some facts about phrase-books. Furthermore, the time of 16th century is described with the aim to present the period when the dictionary was produced. Regarding the hypothesis mentioned above, the linguistic analysis has brought these results. The dictionary should have served not only tradesmen but a wide range of users because of the general vocabulary and because it is partly mentioned...

Hájek as linguistic authority
Koupil, Ondřej
This study deals with the reception of Hájek’s Czech Chronicle as a text that acted as a linguistic authority, amodel that long stood in second place behind the Bible in the hierarchy of prestige Czech texts. Probes extending from the 16th century to the beginning of the 21st century chart the gradual retreat of Hájek’s text from this position to that of a venerable linguistic heirloom. Hájek’s linguistic authority indeed waned with time, just like his historical authority. the relations between Hájek’s individual spheres of authority are diagramatically set out in Section 7. Section 8 raises more general questions on the importance of period linguistic authorities for handling and periodicizing linguistic and literary history, appealing for an examination of the linguistic features of Czech Chronicle, precisely because it was amuch-read and esteemed czech text for many centuries, practically and theoretically considered to be an important linguistic model.

War experience in everyday life of the south Bohemian lower noblemen in the period of the second half of the 16th century and the early 17th century
KOREŠ, František
The author of the diploma thesis endeavoured, with the help of historic-anthropological methods, to depict a variety of forms of the war experience of the south Bohemian aristocracy in the period before the Battle of White Mountain. The subject of his interest focused on the fates of men and women of noble origin, on the background of three key military events of the second half of the 16th century and the early 17th century. Two expeditions of the Bohemian troops against the Turks in 1566 and 1594, and the invasion of Bohemia by the Passau army in 1611 had a very strong impact on the way south Bohemian knights thought, behaved and acted. Personal correspondence of selected aristocratic families served as the heuristic starting point in the search for the answer to the question which ways an aristocrat chose to defend values tested by centuries and to enforce his own or his family?s interests. The objective of the entire research was to amplify the knowledge about the history of lower aristocracy, by stressing the unique role of a historical participant in war. Treating the topic of war experience gave rise to a contribution on the borderline between the political, military, social and cultural areas of history of the early Modern Age.

The Entry of Maximilian II into Vienna in 1552
IVANEGA, Jan
The work deals with the entry of Maximilian II into Vienna in May 1552. The work is based on theoretical suggestions of sociology, and by the range of examined questions it endorses attitudes of historic anthropology. The entry is analyzed on the basis of Barbara Stollberg-Rillinger methodological starting points. She understands the early modern period rituals as a symbolic communication area in which the hierarchy of society is mirrored. Research in Habsburg entries in the 16th century carried out by Václav Bůžek served for the comparison. The search was based on three Latin pieces written by two different authors dealing with the entry topic. The methodical and source attitudes are introduced in the first chapter. The entry is described as a subject of historic search and there is provided an outline of the historiography view on Maximilian II. The next chapter describes, on the basis of work with literature and the analysis of sources, the journey from Spain to Vienna. The next chapter represents the core of the work in which the creation of a picture of distinguished persons mentioned in the sources, especially Maximilian II, his wife Marry of Spain, and an important person in Maximilian{\crq}s escord Adam of Dietrichstein, is examined. The pieces authors{\crq} attitudes to the Turkish imperia are indicated at the same time. In the picture attachment a selection of Maximilian II portraits is provided. In these the identical elements with the ruler{\crq}s description submitted in the analyzed sources are searched. The conclusion of the work summarizes the results of the search. From the author{\crq}s point of view, the searched entry did not differ from the series of Habsburg fests. In the sources Maximilian II is celebrated as a member of a distinguished ancestry with an exceptional nobleness, a patron of art and a conqueror of Turks who is protected by a fairy hand.
