Development of Vocabulary in Elementary School Pupils

The master's thesis focuses on developing pupils' vocabulary and the current didactic perspective on how to contribute to its highest level. The theoretical part primarily addresses the professional view on language acquisition in children and the specifics of speech and vocabulary development in different age periods before and during school age. The theoretical section also presents the research results on the speed of vocabulary acquisition in children and pays attention to vocabulary learning. In the practical part of the thesis, a research study was conducted to determine the vocabulary level among 5th-grade pupils using the Type-Token Ratio (TTR) index. Two main research questions were formulated for the study. The first research question examined whether the richness of students' vocabulary improves after they engage in text exercises and didactic games aimed at vocabulary practice. The second research question focused on differences in vocabulary richness between girls and boys. The results were compared with existing research studies. The research findings emphasise the importance of long-term and regular enrichment of vocabulary and highlight the role of teachers in supporting active word usage and communication in the teaching process. Musical program in pre-primary education for children with atypical language development

The master thesis with the topic: Music Programme For Preschool Children With Atypical Speech Development focuses mainly on speech development of children with different types of socio-cultural disadvantages. The theoretical part focuses on the effect of different mother tongues, bilingualism and other sociocultural disadvantages on speech development of preschool children. It highlights music education and its integrative character, especially in relation to physical education, drama and art education. The connection between music education and different types of learning is also found there, as well as the relationship of music education and the development of different types of intelligence as defined by Gardner. The theoretical part also presents the possibilities of using musical activities as a tool for supporting and nurturing the child's speech development, focusing on compensating for possible deficits expecially in the lexical-semantic and pragmatic levels of language. PaedDr. Vanda Hájková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: In my bachelor's thesis I focus on the issue of cerebral palsy and deviations of psychomotoric and speech developement associated with this condition. First, I'll describe in theory psychomotoric and speech developement of intact children aged from newborns to school age. In the second part I'll focus on psychomotoric deviations and particular forms of speech disorders compared with the children's peer group. In my practical part I focus on assessing the influence of the condition on the acceptance of the children to a school facility, whether the symptomatic speech disorders associated with cerebral palsy affect learning abilities, and finding out parent's opinions on thein childrern's employment and future career. This bachelor thesis deals with problems in communication disability and efficiency of speech therapy by children before entering the first grade of primary school. The thesis summaries knowledge from special education and logopdia. In theoretical part there are described the basic concepts of communication disability, development of speech, preschool age and speech therapy. It explaines theoretical context, compares the different approaches and differences in terminology and introduces the issue. The practical part discusses progress and results of research.
Language development of children in multilingual environment

This diploma thesis have special pedagogical character and it focuses on language development of children from multilingual environment. The reason for this focus is their increasing number. However, there are still relatively few publications on this topic in the Czech Republic because more emphasis is placed on bilingualism. In the theoretical part, is trying to cover the complexity of language development and then deal with the concepts of multilingualism and bilingualism. In the practical part there is a qualitative research investigation based on three case studies of children from multilingual environment. The individual studies describe in detail their language development, including the possible mixing of language codes, and possible communication disabilities. Also, there is trying to find which of the language becomes relaxed for the children. Interviews with parents and class teacher mainly used to obtain data.

Lucie Durdilová ANNOTATION: The aim of the theoretical part of this bachelor's thesis is to describe basic concepts related to the prevention of speech impediments, by using current literature, existing knowledge and research, characterize the most common forms of comminication disorder that usually occur in preschool children and inform about ways of how to prevent speech disorders, mainly primary ones (How can parents prevent the occurrence of speech defects among their children from an earliest possible age). Awareness of parents of the possibilities to prevent speech defects, of child's speech development and of thequality of related literature, will be determinated by a questionnare, this means a quantitative research method. Questionnare will be focused on parents with children between 3-4 years old.
