Typology of characters in novels to continue published in women's magazines

The aim of this work is the analysis of a typology of characters in the serial novel, which was published in women's magazines in the interwar period. For this thesis were used methodology of quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of selected five novels to continue. The work was focused on the period 1931 - 1939. Obtained data were found identical types and features the characters used in contemporary novels to continue. They were found the common aspects of serial novels that formed the primary source material of this thesis. The research was obtained the basic data for working with literary figures of romantic fiction. In this work was prepared model the main male and female character appearing in the novels to continue. In this work was constructed the model of serial novel. Part of the thesis has brought an analysis of novels and their characters have been converted into a movie. This work confirmed the importance of the continuation novels, as a key department of women's periodicals in the interwar period. The contribution of this work is to analyze the most frequently used characters in the novels to continue. Polariites of young adult fiction in Czech prose in between the wars

This thesis focuses on the variations within the genre of young adult fiction in the period between the two world wars. It explores the forms of this genre depending on the intention of the work and the relationship between the text and its model reader. The thesis is divided into two main chapters; the first is theoretical and is divided into two parts. The second chapter focuses on comparative analysis. The first literary-historical part deals with the life and literary life of a woman, starting at the second half of the nineteenth century and presents the genre of the romance novel with its sub-genres; the starting point is the work of Lenderová and Mocná. The second theoretical part contains the typology of popular and artistic literature and the categories included therein, especially the categories of author, narrator, reader and model reader. This part is based mainly on Eco's concept of literary work. The second chapter interprets and compares always two stories by Czech authors of the interwar and early wartime. Women for Women: Women's Fiction in 21st century

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na současnou českou literaturu pro ženy psanou ženskými autorkami, a to zejména z hlediska čtenářů jejího dominantního žánru, červené knihovny. Cílem je popsat, jak dané autorky pracují s tradičními schématy žánru, nakolik realizují tradiční narativní schémata a jak tato schémata vnímají čtenářky preferující tento žánr. , Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a výzkumnou část. V teoretické části jsme popsali stručný vývoj žánru jako součásti populární literatury a jeho charakteristické rysy. Základem výzkumné části je sociologické čtenářské šetření rozdělené na kvantitativní a kvalitativní. V kvantitativní části jsme provedli širší čtenářský průzkum formou dotazníků. Kvalitativní část je založena na analýze děl vybraných autorek, kterou jsme vedli pomocí volného hloubkového rozhovoru s úzkým okruhem respondentek. Tímto způsobem jsme analyzovali knihy Otcomilky od Simony Monyové, u knihy Bestiář od Barbary Nesvadbové a Tajné knihy Ireny Obermannové. Reception analysis of the Fifty Shades trilogy and a film adaptation of its first part

The aim of this thesis was to analyse the reception of the Fifty Shades book trilogy and a film adaptation of its first part from the perspective of a female audience - both women who like the books and/or the film and women who do not like them. The thesis sought to describe the fundamental ways of the reception of the Fifty Shades phenomenon and to connect them to media and public discourse about the trilogy. The research questions were particularly focused on women's motivations to reading the books and/or watching the film, their approach to and evaluation of the trilogy. A part of the thesis was also a comparison of the two groups of female readers and viewers regarding the questions mentioned above and a connection of those questions with media and public discourse about Fifty Shades. During the conducted research 13 individual semistructured interviews with female readers and viewers of Fifty Shades have been done. The gained data were analysed by using the grounded theory method (particularly in vivo coding and axial coding). The outcome of the analysis is a description of two different ways of reception and interpretation of Fifty Shades which show persisting ambiguity of romantic fictions for women. The Problem of Adaptation of Love Romance Stories to film

The aim of this thesis is to describe a relation between a literary text of love romance stories and its film adaptation. We understand love romance stories genre as a subgenre of popular literature and we define it like that. We also mention various theories of adaptation, mainly the theory of Linda Hutcheon. On the basis of the specification of the love romance genre and the appropriate theory of adaptation we compare chosen novels of Maryna Radoměrská and theirs film adaptations. We observe how much is this adaptation loyal to the novel which it is based on, whether it could have been loyal or has satisfied the viewer as much as the novel.
