The reaction of selected Czech and German periodicals of the First Czechoslovak Republic to the Anschluss of Austria

This bachelor thesis explores the Anschluss of Austria and its media image in selected Czech and German periodicals of First Czechoslovak Republic. The aim of the thesis is to present the narratives that shaped the news coverage of this historical event, and at the same time to show the influence of state-controlled mechanisms on the form of news about the Anschluss. The first chapter of the thesis introduces the media landscape of the First Republic, consideringthe connection of the Czechoslovak News Agency (ČTK) to state authorities or censorship measures during this period.In particular,it focuses on the phenomenon of party and non-party newspapers, as it is party and non-party periodicals across the political spectrum that are analysed in the second chapter of the thesis.In this section, the circumstances of the Anschluss are first briefly described, then the thesis analyses the impact of this situation on Czechoslovakia's international position and diplomatic relations. The analysis itself relies on archival findings that document the communication between the ČTK and state institutions during March 1938, and uses these findings to evaluate the content and wording of the articles in the various periodicals.Most of the periodicals agree that Czechoslovakia was not in danger after the Anschluss...

The influence of agency news from the ČTK on the content of foreign news sections in periodicals

The diploma thesis "The Influence of Agency News from the Czech News Agency on the Content of Foreign News Sections in Periodicals" is focused on the thematic a geopolitical focus of the foreign news sections of Czech national dailies in comparison with the agency service of the Czech Newa Agency (CTK). The thesis strives to answer the question, how similar they are. At the same time, work with sources is compared. The theoretical basis for this thesis lies in the theorie of gatekeeping, news values and agenda setting. Two month-long periods were analyzed in the thesis, with emphasis on the comparability of the work with sources. March 2012, a so-called usual month with no expected events of big importance, was compared to the period between 20 October and 20 November 2012, when presidential elections went on in the United States of America. Tendencies of development in regional news service of ČTK

This graduation thesis ,,Tendencies of development in regional news service of ČTK" deals with regional news service of ČTK during 2005 - 2009 period and tries to describe its form and latest trends of development. It also features a field trip to one of regional redaction in Plzeň. The results of research quantify data picked from infobank of ČTK, they are compared with findings from field, with theoretical knowledges and also with statements of ČTK in its annual reports. Trends of ČTK general and business regional news service are compared with trends of ČTK domestic and business news service. This thesis is theoretically based on routines of journalist organization, role of regional journalist and standing of press agency in medial system.

Trump for President. Analysis of the media image of Donald Trump in the ČTK news

This thesis titled "Trump for President. Analysis of the media image of Donald Trump in the CTK news" deals with the portrayal of Donald Trump. This thesis focuses on Trump related news release from March 18, 2015 to January 20, 2017. In March 2015, Mr Trump announced his intention to run for presidency of the United States through the Republican Party and would be taking part in the primaries. He officially became president in January 2017. The aim of the thesis, which is based on quantitative research using content analysis, is to find out how the role of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America was reflected in CTK news. The paper aims to clarify whether the media`s interest in Donald Trump had been steadily rising over the period under review in CTK and which of the thematic categories are covered in the various stages of pre-election rivalry even after the election. An aggregate of articles was used as a data resource from CTK`s infobank. It can be concluded from the results that Trump's success also depended on the fact that he was able to highlight his personality and set criterias relating to his ideologies and political experience through the help of the media.

Diploma thesis Influence of press agencies on the foreign news of Czech dailies Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny deals with influence of the press agency ČTK and Reuters on the foreign news, March and April 2012 were being analyzed. The Research used quantitative content analysis and describes the way, how editors work with the news from ČTK and Reuters, how much space get the agencies′s news in newspapers and how the journalists mention authorship while taking news from the press agency. This thesis also contains agenda-setting principles, gatekeeping theory, news values and media routines as a theoretical base.

Analysis of the media image of Milos Zeman in the ČTK news for the first year in presidency

This thesis titled Analysis of Media Image of Milos Zeman as Portrayed by CTK during the First Year of Presidency focuses on news releases made by Czech News Agency CTK that within the time frame of 8. 3. 2013 - 8. 3. 2014 inform about the President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman. The goal of this thesis was to aquire a complex media impression of President as presented by CTK's news production. Primarily this thesis inquires into the total number of news releases within particular time periods, their topics and tonality. Secondarily this thesis observes the trends of these phenomenons within a one-year time horizon and the connection and coherence among the aforementioned phenomenons. The basis of this thesis is theoretical context that deals with news releases and pursues media construction of reality in the news. For this research there was used quantitative content analysis with qualitative overlap in form of emotional impression of news releases. As a data resource there was used an aggregate of texts from CTK's infobank. Research proved certain hypothesis, as e.g. a long-term dropping tendency of media interest in President Zeman or a higher number of negatively rather than positively tinted news. Judicial decisions of Constitutional Court of the Czech republic in coverage of ČTK

The Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic is one of the most important institutions in the Czech constitutional and political system. However, his agenda isn't attractive at all for the general public and because of that, media have an important role in news reporting about it. It applies especially for the public service media, among whom we could include also the Czech Press Office. The thesis is trying to analyse the news reporting products of CTK related to judicial decisions of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic. It uses four particular cases from the relevant research period, which was set to 2010-2015. The thesis also offers theoretical basis for analysis - it describes the role of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic and it follows up also the role of press agencies as an information sources.

Image of President Donald Trump in the Czech News Agency

The diploma thesis entitled "Image of President Donald Trump in the Czech News Agency" closely examines how the Czech News Agency provided information to the Czech readers about the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump whose time in office (January 20 2017 until January 20 2021) brought a number of changes and controversies. One of the most notable one to mention are the US withdrawal from The Paris Climate Agreement or the accusation that the Republican president secretly cooperated with Russia before a unanticipated victory in 2016 elections. The research of Trump's media image in the public agency CTK is based on quantitative analysis of topics as well as a qualitative approach to evaluating the tonality of each individual article.

Influence of the Czech News Agency's coverage on the content of sport sections of Internet portals Aktuálně.cz, iDnes.cz and Sport.cz

The thesis "Influence of the Czech News Agency's coverage on the content of sport sections of Internet portals Aktuálně.cz, iDnes.cz and Sport.cz" examines the influence of agency news on the production of sports sections of selected news servers on the basis of quantitative content analysis. In the theoretical part of the thesis, basic information about news agencies, the Czech News Agency (hereinafter referred to as "ČTK"), sports, sports journalism and online media is described. The concept of agenda setting is also explained and the analysed internet portals are briefly described. The practical part of the thesis presents, in addition to an explanation of the research methodology used, the analysis itself, which was carried out on a total of 1882 articles from all three servers for the period from 17th September 2020 to 30th September 2020. Based on the data obtained, all six research questions are subsequently answered. Five questions concern the correspondence of the published texts with the agency news and the claimed authorship, while the last one focuses on the authorship of the published photographs. Use of the Czech Press Agency for the purpose of propaganda

Diploma thesis Use of the Czech News Agency for the purpose of propaganda analyses the relationship between the Czech News Agency, state and its executive in seven time periods from the creation of Czechoslovakia in 1918 to its dissolution in 1993, when it got replaced by two separate states - The Czech Republic and The Slovak Republic. The aim of the thesis is to delimitate the status and mission of the Czech News Agency in relation to the state and its executive, considering the legislation, in each of the seven chosen periods by conducting a qualitative content analysis of particular news issued by the Czech News Agency. With the use of the delimitation of the status and mission of the Czech News Agency in relation to the state, and the subsequent qualitative content analysis of the news, I demonstrate how this relationship was reflecting on the news content. For this purpose I use the critical discourse analysis in light of the discourse-historical approach. Besides the analysis of seventy news stories from newspapers, this thesis also includes a comparison of the two analysed periods of Prague spring and perestrojka at the end of the 80s.
