Library of Vaclav Cerny

This thesis presents the personality of Vaclav Cerny and his personal library. First, the author turns the Černý's professional resume. The second part focuses on the critical activities readership portrait and popular heroes. Another part is defined Černý's personal library, general characteristics, its formation, the ways in which Černý harvested books, his work with books, literature review, and libraries that Černý visited during his life. The final part describes in detail the part of the library with existential literature, deals with the forerunners of existentialism and the Czech and foreign representatives of this philosophical direction.
Library of Karel Teige - the source for studying literary history

(in English) The paper analyzes the personal library of Karel Teige, the leading theorist of the Czech avant-garde, with respect to its cultural and political context. It presents the available information on its history and its role for studying literary history, surrealism in particular. The literary estate of Karel Teige is currently located in the National Museum Library (3828 items), Museum of Czech Literature (PNP; approx. 290 items), and partly in private ownership. Its composition reflects Teige's lifelong active participation in Czech surrealism and incorporates valuable samizdat books from the wartime period, when surrealist activities were illegal.
Significant European national digital libraries

This bachleor thesis focuses on two main objectives. First objective is to map and describe selected national digital libraries in Europe. Second objetive is to describe its cooperation with Europeana portal. Definitions of basic terms are mentioned in the first chapter. Theoretical part of this thesis comprises of description of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of selected NDL according to mentioned model. This model concentrates on user accessibility, description of provided materials and description of web sites. Pactical part consists of comparison of the research outcomes and description of the cooperation with Europeana portal on general and specific level.
The role of the Czech National Library in regional and world digitisation and its activities in digitalisation from ½ 90s of 20th century up to date

The bachelor thesis summarizes the history of activities of the National Library of the Czech Republic in digitization and its participation on international and national projects for digitization. This work does not just focus on these projects, but also on Albertina icome Ltd., and briefly describes the government programs of the Ministry of Culture VISK (Public Information Library Services), which are an integral part of the digitization of the National Library. The thesis also deals with the role of the National Library of the Czech Republic in European and global environment. The projects and the status of the National Library are briefly evaluated by the author of the thesis. Her opinions, drawn from the current situation of the project, are also presented. Furthermore, the author deals with the possible future development of digitization. The work's time range is set from the mid 1990's to the present. Providing online access to cultural heritage in context of selected issues of information politics.

1 Abstract Theses is devoted to some selected issues of cultural heritage online domain within context of information politics in which it takes a place. After dealing with terminology, including cultural heritage definition based on anthropological concept of culture and segmentation of cultural heritage according to UNESCO activities, the second chapter presents cultural heritage digitization and bringing online activities of European Union as a part of European information politics since 90s of 20th Century (important projects out of Europe are mentioned). Regarding to these politics the chapter focuses on participation of Czech Republic on putting European cultural heritage online. The third chapter is focused on college and university education in digitization and bringing cultural heritage online in USA and Europe, with a special focus on Slovac and Czech Republic. The fourth chapter sums up general characteristics of cultural heritage information systems and introduces some possible ways of their use in education and as information sources in libraries. The last chapter presents outputs of project devoted to development of digital library specialized on bringing online data obtained by research in private libraries.

The role of books in the life of Josef Thomayer

The goal of the bachelor's thesis is to find and characterize the personal library and estate of the doctor and writer, Josef Thomayer and by the findings to draw his relationship to books and work with paper. At the beginning the thesis acquaints concisely with Josef Thomayer's life, his literary work and readers. The third chapter writes down the searching for his personal library of this scientist and artist in diverse institutions and it characterizes its content. The next chapter deals with Josef Thomayer as a reader and outlines his relationship to books and libraries in young and adult age. The fifth chapter deals with Thomayer's work with the paper, writing and office supplies, style of hand writing and graphical adjustment in the books. The last chapter presents important friends of professor Thomayer and their mutual gifts in the form of books. The thesis is completed by the list of pictures and photos with significant items of books and correspondence of Josef Thomayer.
Summary of Czech regional publishers, their significance and place at the current book market

Thesis "Overview of Czech regional publishing houses, their meaning and place in today's book market" deals with regional publishers in the Czech Republic, their meaning and place in today's book market. The introduction defines the concept of regional publishers and determines who can be regarded as a regional publisher. In the next chapter evaluates marketing tools including the specifics of this segment of the book market. The next section presents an overview of publishers and detailed mapping quantitative and qualitative level of production. The conclusion reflects on the possibilities of development of publishing and selling their books in the future and is here summarized empirical research publishers responses to structured questions and clear charts. Persistent identifiers and their use in digital libraries

The aim of this thesis is to present persistent identification systems and analysis of the use of persistent identifiers for digital objects on a sample of national digital libraries. The first part is a brief introduction to digital libraries. The second part describes selected permanent identification systems. The third part explains elements of selected national digital libraries. The last section is an analysis of the use of persistent identifiers in various national digital libraries. Jan Werich's Books

(in English): The diploma thesis opens a new perspective on Jan Werich - famous Czech writer, playwright and actor. Its goal is to describe part played by books in formation of character, life and work of this eminent personality of Czech culture and social impact of his work. An important part of this work is the reconstruction of contents of Jan Werich's personal library. The thesis is based on analysis of Werich's literary work, analysis of collection of personal documents in Literary archive of The Museum of Czech Literature, study of documents in the archive of Theatre ABC and Prague City Archives. It is also based on testimonies of some close Werich's friends and on reader's survey "The books of Jan Werich". First chapter is concerned with Jan Werich's personal library. It describes the search for destiny of this library, on its probable current situation and on various sources for the reconstruction of its contents. It also contains information on Werich's work with a book, mostly on lending and borrowing books and on property marking of documents. The main part of first chapter is the reconstruction of contents of Jan Werich's personal library; its bibliogprahy forms an appendix to this work.
