Polish and Czech nonsense literature for children

The diploma thesis describes Polish and Czech nonsense in children's literature. The main goal is to define nonsense literature, its development from a historical and formative point of view, considering contemporary events. The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical definition of the term nonsense and its historical aspect, especially on the two key representatives of English nonsense Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll. The next part deals with the development of Polish nonsense in children's literature. Two main authors, Julian Tuwim and Jan Brzechwa, who are considered as the creators of the new poetic school, took part in the formation of nonsense in Poland. Absurd humour and the world of children readers became the main inspirations for their work. This poetics was followed by other representatives of the Polish nonsense, including Ludwik Jerzy Kern, Wanda Chotomska and others. The work also focuses on the development of Czech nonsense for children, its main personalities and major works, which are based on nonsense, absurdity and word play. The diploma describes nonsense work for children of Josef Kainar, Jiří Kolář, Miloš Macourek, Pavel Šrut and other writers of literature. A comparison of eroticism in post-revolution era of Vladimír Páral's prose with Fifti Shades of Grey

This thesis compares eroticism in the post-revolutionary work of the Czech prose writer Vladimír Páral with the bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey by the British writer E. L. James. From Páral's work, the works of Dekameron 2000 or Love in Prague, Playgirls, Book of pleasure, laughter and joy, and the Book about the whip are discussed. Also included is The Professional: Vladimír Páral about himself and other interesting things, which came out in the 1990s, but it is an autobiography. Therefore, this book will be included in the chapter on autobiographical connotations. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first one is mainly terminological, it explains the terms sex, eroticsm, pornography, erotic and pornographic literature and love. The second part deals with the authors themselves and their body of work. It is organised into sub-chapters in which specific pieces are analysed. In the case of Páral, the parallel between the Book of pleasure, laughter and joy and Kundera's Book of laughter and forgetting is also taken into account. In the case of Fifty Shades of Grey, some similarities with the erotism in Milan Kundera's work are found. Collectivization of Czech countryside in Literature of 1950s and 1960s

This Diploma thesis deals with the literary reflection of collectivization of Czech countryside in selected literary works of the building novel written in the 1950s and in the novels of disillusionment written in the 1960s. Specifically, we choose these novels from the 1950s: Bitva by V. Rezac, Dve Jara by B. Riha, Horke dny by P. Bojar and Jedina cesta by J. V. Pleva. From the 1960s are the novels: Velka samota by I. Kriz, Zelene obzory by J. Prochazka, Prselo jim stesti by J. Trefulka, ...silna ruka by J. Kozak, Smutecni slavnost by E. Kanturkova a Vyhnanstvi by M. Klansky. The thesis examines how the theme of collectivization of the Czech countryside changes in these novels and how it changes its literary reflection within the category of characters, with what situations and motives it is associated with. The study also focuses on the transformation of the view of the countryside in this novels.

Between the literary planes (prose by Umberto Eco and Dan Brown)

The topic of this diploma thesis is the analysis of three novels (Il pendolo di Foucault and Numero zero by Umberto Eco and The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown) with usage of triadic model of literature. The thesis is based mainly on the concept of triadic model published by Umberto Eco in his study Apocalittici e integrati. The usage of his model is made difficult by the fact that the specific characteristics of the middle literary plane are not defined. Therefore we supplement Eco's concept with several additional studies. We hypothesized that Il pendolo di Foucault, Numero zero and The Da Vinci Code belong to the high, middle and low literary planes respectively. The results of this diploma thesis support our hypothesis. However, it is clear that the classification of Numero zero into the middle literary plane can be a matter of the discussion, while the specific characteristics of this plane are not yet strictly defined. The confirmation or refutation of the above mentioned hypothesis was not the only aim of this study. Additional aim was to focus on the novel which could belong to the middle literary plane and through the comparison with other novels contribute to the delimination of this literary plane.
