(in English) This enclosed thesis contains two parts. The first part includes a translation of selected chapters from the book Montessori-Pädagogik. Einführung in Theorie und Praxis written by Michael Klein-Landeck and Tanja Pütz. This publication aims to provide a rough overview of Montessori pedagogy. It introduces also world famous teacher Maria Montessori and her point of view on a child. This book expresses the importance of education and readiness of teachers and environment. Moreover, it focuses on an application of Montessori pedagogy in the praxis. The aim of this translation is to create a functional equivalent text. The second part contains the translation analysis based on the model of Christiane Nord and a theoretical commentary for selected chapters. Furthermore, it presents translation methods and procedures, translational issues and finally, it includes also translation shifts according to models of Jiří Levý and Anton Popovič with corresponding examples.

Interpreting Departments of the German Legislative and Executive Bodies

The diploma thesis "Interpreting Departments of the German Legislative and Executive Bodies" focuses on two institutions: the Bundestag and the Auswärtiges Amt (in English Ministry of Foreign Affairs, abbreviated AA). This work partly follows the researches about the interpreting department of AA interpreting services from its establishment to the end of the Second World War and aims not only to describe the organization and functioning of this department after more than one hundred years of its establishment, but also to focus on relatively new interpreting department in Bundestag. In addition to organization, internal regulations and functioning, the work will also focus on topics of ethics and the role of an interpreter at the highest political level and exceptions across departments. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to translate the first chapter called "Das spätrömische Reich: Staat, Gesellschaft, Wirtschaft" from the book Rom in der Spätantike. Porträt einer Epoche, written by a German classical philologist Manfred Fuhrmann, from German into Czech. The first part of this work contains the already mentioned translation, the second one focuses on the translation analysis of both texts, on the description of translation method as well as on the typology of translation shifts and problems. The objective of this bachelor thesis is to translate selected chapters from the publication called Miró by Domènec Ribot Martín. It was published in 2015 by Susaeta editorial in the collection Pintores de siempre. The book deals with the life and work of Catalan artist Joan Miró. The chapters selected for the translation are the first chapter called La infancia y los años de formación and the fourth chapter called Entre Nueva York y París: El éxito. The second part is the theoretical part, the commentary of the translation. First, I made the analysis of the source text, determined the translation method and described the problems I faced during the translation as well as the translation shifts and methods used. Teaching Note-taking for Consecutive Interpreting in Germany

The present thesis focuses on the teaching of interpreter`s notes within selected universities in the Federal Republic of Germany. The aim of this theoretical-empirical study is to find out how lecturers teach note-taking, which sources they use, and how much importance they assign to teaching note-taking. Findings from German universities are compared with responses from research participants from a university in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of this study introduces the topic of note-taking in a wider context of interpreting, discusses the prevailing systems of note-taking in more detail and deals with teaching note-taking and some of its aspects. Tools and technologies used for note-taking are also mentioned. In the second, empirical part of the thesis, the goals, chosen methodology and possible limits of the research are presented. Participants and universities selected for the research are also introduced. The data is collected by means of questionnaires and semi- structured interviews. Findings from both of these methods are then compared based on thematic areas. Interpreting Between German Colonists and Local Residents of Namibia During the German Colonisation

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of interpreting in Namibia both during its existence as a German colony and its post-colonial era. In 1884 the territory of present-day Namibia became a colony called German South West Africa. Among the problems encountered by the colonizers were the linguistic and cultural differences that made communication between the Germans and the locals complicated and, at times, even impossible. Due to their ambivalent role, interpreters were treated with a lot of mistrust and the clients suspected them of twisting the intended information in favour of one of the parties. Although the Colonial Administration emphasised language training for both negotiating parties, at the end, this approach turned out to be too ambitious, and it proved necessary to use interpreting services, especially in the areas of law, religion and diplomacy. This paper explores the role, status, working conditions and competences of interpreters in these areas. Many of the findings are partly intertwined with modern interpretation theory and practice, making it possible to apply some of the crucial theoretic claims on Namibia's colonial era. Kirsti Siraste and her Translations from Czech in the Light of her Time

The thesis focuses on the translations of Czech literature in Finland, specifically on the person of eminent translator from Czech into Finnish, Kirsti Siraste. It describes the historical context of the second half of the 20th century when Siraste worked as an active translator, the ideology of the era which influenced the whole social climate, i. e. the translator's and publisher's work as well; and the position of Czech literature in Finland at that time. The thesis also maps the comprehensive situation of literary translation in Finland because Czech literature is a part of literary translation production as a whole. Another focus point of the thesis is the research of norms in literary translation and Finnish literary production as well. The last part of the thesis is a translatological analysis of one of Siraste's translations, specifically The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. History of the Union of Interpreters and Translators (JTP)

(in English): This thesis aims to document the development of the Union of Interpreters and Translators from its foundation until today. The thesis deals with the situation before 1989 and associations of translators and interpreters during the Communist era and it also describes the circumstances of the establishment of the Union of Interpreters and Translators and its subsequent history. It deals with the specific activities of the organization such as competitions, trips and educational and publishing activities. Such a systematic review has not been published in Czech so far. The chosen research method is oral history, which was implemented through interviews with the four founders of the organization. The acquired data was then verified and put into the context of the records in the magazines ToP: Interpreting-translation, letters addressed to the members of the Union and documents from the meetings of the organization.
