Forty years of the magazine Krkonoše (Giant Mountains); a local periodical in the Czech society
Political trials led by the communist regime against women in the case of Milada Horáková, Fráňa Zemínová and Antonie Kleinerová and their media representation in the Czech press of the time
Dovenerová, Sylvie ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; NÁHRADNÍ, OPONENT (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze media reprezentation of three women in the trial Milada Horáková et al. in May and June 1950 concocted by four Czech leading Daily Newspapers of the time. It tries to evaluate the picture of women as an enemy for the communist regime. This Soviet style show trial represents some of the worst excesses of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia in the fifties. In the theoretical part, it describes political, economical and social changes after the Communist takeover in February 1948. It points out the reasons for establishing and designing political trials in Czechoslovakia. The practical part represents the results of a basic quantitative analysis focused on size and its comparision of media attention of Milada Horáková, Frána Zemínová and Antonie Kleinerová in each newspaper and an interpretation of all different pictures of these women which the media offered to the public. This thesis reveals how the communist propaganda was used to identify the class enemy and then misused it to manipulate a public perception.

The aim of this diploma thesis was to present in detail the document made by the director of News and Sport division of Czech Television Zdeněk Šámal entitled Decaloque for the Work od Czech Television Journalists on Social Networks. This document recommends Czech Television journalists how to communicate on their personal profiles on social networks. In this context, the thesis also includes a relatively wide research, which introduces to readers, whether there are some similar documents published in other european public service media. For a compehensive approach to the whole issue, there is also a practical part of this thesis, which inludes interviews with Czech Television journalists, which helps to introduce readers also a subjective view, both of the Decaloque and freedom of speech. The role of the media in spreading conspiracy theories, fake news and hoaxes
Hamrník, Jan ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the dissemination of conspiracy theories, fake news and hoaxes and the role of media in this process. First, the basic concepts are explained and the topic of the thesis is put in a broader context. The functioning of disinformation media is described including the description of the local scene. Other channels used to deceive recipients include e-mails and applications, social networks, and word of mouth. Special attention is paid to the regular media and the rules according to which they should operate. The theory is followed by a practical part, which maps the spreading of specific misinformation not only through the media, but also fact-checking initiatives. Examples include conspiracy theories about the fire in Notre-Dame Cathedral, hoaxes about alleged refugees in Cheb, Czech Television journalist Marek Wollner and MP Olga Richterová, and the case of the dubious non-profit organization International Children's Cross. The analysis of these cases is conducted through a mixed research model: Data collection is carried out by a quantitative method, while working with them, qualitative methods associated with grounded theory are applied. The aim is to define and describe the forms that the media give to misinformation in their outputs, and to determine in which cases...
Media coverage of Korean war by the journal Rudé právo
Chrenčík, Roman ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
This Diploma thesis deals with the media coverage of the Korean war in the Rudé právo daily, in that period the official newspaper of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. Its main goal is to ascertain the rate of influence of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, of rigorous censorship of the regime and Soviet Union dictatorship upon informing about events of the Korean war, which was the first conflict ever where the United Nations army, consisting of several states, was fighting together. For this purpose, by studying secondary resources I am first of all describing conditions leading to the war and determining the most important events of the war, including for instance landing of the United Nations forces in Incheon, China involvement or distinct phases of armistice negotiations. The crucial part of this thesis is the portrayal of these events in the newspaper, including monitoring of tens of issues between late May 1950 and early October 1950. Regarding the facts ascertained by that time I am switching to five days cycles of newspaper monitoring, which has by the end proven to be absolutely sufficient for creating a comprehensive image.
