Central European policy with regard to the activities of the Visegrad Group
Analytical and bioanalytical evaluation of novel potential drugs from the group of iron chelators
Bureš, Jan ; Štěrbová, Petra (advisor) ; Kujovská Krčmová, Lenka (referee) ; Hroch, Miloš (referee)
Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis Candidate: Mgr. Jan Bureš Supervisor: Doc. PharmDr. Petra Štěrbová, Ph.D. Title of Thesis: Analytical and bioanalytical evaluation of novel potential drugs from the group of iron chelators High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) gained its unprecedented position among bioanalytical techniques due to its effectivity and versatility. If tuned properly, it can separate complex mixtures and can be used for qualitative and quantitative analysis simultaneously, usually within a short time. Reliability of the HPLC methods is proven by their validation performed according to accepted guidelines. Iron chelation is considered to be an effective concept of treatment of various pathologies - from iron overload disease to cancer or neurodegenerative disorders. To develop new chelators for these indications it is important to investigate their structure- activity relationship, the fate of the drug in organism and its relationship to biological effects and toxicity etc. Modern analytical methods are essential tools for these studies. The first part of this work presents validated LC-UV and LC-MS methods for assay of aroylhydrazone iron chelators and related pro-drugs in biological...

System of Czech numerals and their automatic recognition in texts
Bureš, Jan ; Hlaváčová, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Mírovský, Jiří (referee)
This thesis has two main goals. The first goal is systematic classification of Czech numerals and other quantitative phrases (including multiple-word) with special regard for possible use during automatic recognition of Czech text. The main source of data for theis classification is current Czech grammar and author's research in Czech language corpora The second goal is development of tool for automatic recognition of numerals in Czech text based on the system developed during the first phase of this thesis. This includes determining basic morphological attributes of numerals and their numeric value, where possible and applicable. The tool is even prepared to deal with the fact, that the gramatic rules for numerals are often disregarded.
Europeization of ODS and KSČM in the context of the party system of ČR
Jirota, Tomáš ; Bureš, Jan (advisor) ; Polášek, Martin (referee)
The thesis aims to analyze and explain the origin, development and manifestations of the process of Europeanization of two players of the Czech party system - the ODS and the KSČM. The thesis starts with a theoretical part, which summarizes the current debate in political science and Europeanization in the context of political parties. The main aim was to trace the changes that were seen among those due to the involvement of political parties in the debate over the meaning of European integration for Czech politics and the practical integration into EU institutions. The basic hypothesis, which is verified, aims to examine the correlation and negativistic relation ODS and KSČM on issues of European integration after twenty years of exposure in the Czech party system. At the same time an analysis of election results mentioned parties to the European Parliament, as well as the method of election campaigns of parties in the same institution. The analytical part of the work analyzes the ODS and KSČM in the line of the general impact of European policies, program outcomes of affected parties, as well as electoral competition in elections to the EP and Czech national assembly. The Rise and Fall of the Green Party
Sklenářová, Zdeňka ; Bureš, Jan (advisor) ; Polášek, Martin (referee)
Anotation The thesis' purpose is to analyse the evolution of Green Party between 2006 and 2010. Thesis is concentrated on the period when the party recorded under the leadership of M. Bursik its greatest electoral success and managed to not only exceed the electoral clause to enter the Chamber of Deputies, but also participate in forming a government together with the ODS and the KDU - CSL. Soon it became clear that the party was splitted in opinion and there was a struggle between realists, realizing that if they wanted to enforce their policies they would have to accept many compromises, and ecological radicals, who wanted to impose all or nothing. The thesis also describes the work of the Green Party in government and growing conflicts between members of Party, which resulted in the establishment of intra-party fraction "Democratic challenge" and consequent elimination of MPs O. Zubová and V. Jakubková of the Green Party parliamentary group. Particularly, intraparty conflicts and the inability of its President M. Bursik to unite the party meant a slow but steady decline in party preferences. This observation was confirmed by the electoral failures in regional elections and following elections to the European Parliament, after whichM. Bursik resigned. But finally even his successor O. Liška didn't manage...
Consociational democracy in contemporary perspective
Procházka, Libor ; Koubek, Jiří (advisor) ; Bureš, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Consociational Democracy in Contemporary Perspective"pursues, as the name suggests the consociational democracy model. It attempts to make readers acquainted both with the theory and with some of the critique that has been made during four decades. Consociational democracy appears in 1960-ies as a rather narrow empirical model that was to explain stability in plural societies; it nevertheless radically changes and transfers itself in much more ambitious theory. This is recognized and described by the essay.
Characteristics of Slobodan Miloševič's regime in Serbia
Pád komunismu, se všemi politickými a ekonomickými důsledky, a znovuzrození nacionalistických vášní vedly, především v Srbsku a Chorvatsku, k vzestupu nových vůdců, Slobodana Miloševiče a Franjy Tudjmana. Ti se stali otci zakladateli zvláštních a přitom sobě velmi podobných režimů, které byly, dle rozdělení Juana Linze, kombinací autoritářství, některých prvků sultanismu, a demokracie. Právě režim Slobodana Miloševiče se v době bombardování...
Spatial choices of animals based on abstract visual stimuli: Configuration or shape?
Nekovářová, Tereza ; Bureš, Jan (advisor) ; Syka, Josef (referee) ; Kršiak, Miloslav (referee) ; Frynta, Daniel (referee)
Spatial cognition as a model for study of learning, memory and problem solving has a long history in neurosciences. This cognitive ability is used for several reasons. Firstly, the ability to form the inner representation of a space, to orient in an environment, to perceive positions of prominent objects and of other animals is essential for all mammals and birds. Thus it is natural for animals to perform such behavior even in experimental conditions. Secondly, it is possible to compare spatial cognition of different species in similar tasks. And thirdly, there are strong indices of the possible neuroanatomical substrate and mechanism underlying spatial cognition. There are different strategies of navigation in an environment, which could be distinguished by different criterions. They differ in the frames of reference in which the observer operates, i.e. whether the co-ordinates are centered in a subject (egocentric orientation) or whether the co-ordinates encode only the relations between objects and dominants in the environment and they are not dependent on observer (geocentric orientation). The navigational strategies also differ by the type of cues that are used for navigation. In allothetic orientation the subject employs external landmarks, which may be not only visual stimuli, but also the stimuli of...
