Ideology, normalisation or normalisation of ideology?
Hladík, Radim ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Bernard, Jan (referee)
The topic of this master's degree thesis - "Ideology of the Normalization, or the Normalization of Ideology: Narrative and Ideological Analysis of Films about Everyday Life during the 'Normalization'" - is an inquiry into the ideology of the so-called normalization period (1968-1989) as it is represented in mainstream Czech post-communist films. The research question is posed as follows: Do these films reflect on the ideology of the Normalization era itself, or are they normalizing a new post-communist ideology about the Normalization? The journey of Jaroslav Papousek to film directing through non-filming artistic activities and collaboration with Milos Forman and Ivan Passer
Rybanský, Adam Koloman ; SLÁMA, Bohdan (advisor) ; BERNARD, Jan (referee)
My bachelor thesis deals with the life of Jaroslav Papoušek until he made his first film The Most Beautiful Age. It maps his artistic activity as a painter, sculptor, cartoonist and writer. All of that is reflected in his film profession. When he finished the novel Black Peter and started to work on script with Milos Forman, he discovers his scriptwriting talent and a good sense for dialogues which he continued to develop as a part of a trio of authors. Experience he gained by working with directors such as Miloš Forman and Ivan Passer naturally led him to his director's debut The Most Beautiful Age. I chose this film to describe his influence of fine art disciplines, precisely the art of sculpture, and also his influence of his previous collaborations on his scriptwriting and director's perception.
Poetics of cinematic work of Artavazd Peleshyan
Stetsenko, Ksenia ; Bernard, Jan (advisor) ; Přádná, Stanislava (referee)
The Poetics of Artavazd Peleshyan's Cinema Abstract This thesis presents an analysis of the poetics of Artavazd Peleshyan's cinema based on the theory of poetics of cinema developed by David Bordwell. The first part introduces the reader to the director's work, includes a literature overview and outlines the methodological approach. The main theoretical frame of reference was provided by David Bordwell's concept of the poetics of cinema, which he developed in several publications. The second part of the thesis focuses on the analysis itself, and consists of three chapters that present the main components of a film work: thematics, stylistics and large-scale form. The first of these chapters focuses on basic thematic elements in individual Peleshyan's films and summarizes key themes represented throughout his work. The second chapter presents an analysis of the stylistic component of his work, consisting primarily of combining images and sounds expressed through the montage. This part also deals with Peleshyan's theory of distance montage and illustrates its mechanisms of distance connections using specific examples. The third and final chapter focuses on the formal aspects of Peleshyan's work and discusses its large-scale from the perspective of the essay film. This thesis presents the basic characteristics...
Flashback as a narrative means for expressing memory. Czechoslovak New Wave in the mirror of flashback
Smartphones as experimental tools to take measurements in environmental engineering
Bernard, Jan ; Hejčík, Jiří (referee) ; Jedelský, Jan (advisor)
The thesis is focused on the measuring of the physical quantities by the means of smartphones. It gives a list of the sensors which smartphones contain and it briefly describes their function in ordinary use and their use for the measuring not only physical quantities. Sensors of the mechanical quantities are documented in a greater extent. The measurement limits are addressed as well as the information what inaccuracies of measured quantities can be expected. The study also deals with the added devices which help to overcome the limits of inbuilt sensors and by that they make the measurement more accurate. A review of several researches on already made measurements of the mechanical quantities with smartphones is also given. The last part of the study describes an experiment during which six mobile phones with Android system and six applications were tested by measuring a pink noise signal. Two main facts follows from the results. The measurement with a phone calibrated previously cannot be considered as reliable, the errors can be in the rate of tens of decibels. Whereas phones after calibration in the levels range 45 – 85 dB, when the measuring error is linear, can be used for measurement of the noise with the error less than 2 dB.
The Relationships between Bohemia and Gaul from 4th to 1st century. BC.
Pierrevelcin, Gilles ; Salač, Vladimír (advisor) ; Bernard, Jan (referee) ; Guillaumet, Jean-Paul (referee)
This work will introduce the relationships between Bohemia and Gaul from 4th to 1st century BC, mainly based on previous documentation, originating from research history and monographic issues, concerning particular types of artefacts. A range of 61 of them, constituting 230 items, has so been defined, forming as many "contacts features" between both areas. These features allow underlining the dynamic in theses contacts, even on chronological and spatial ground. The function of some sites (Stradonice, Manching) or areas (Switzerland, Rhine-Moselle) is so emphasized. The performing of quality and quantity data is completed by researches concerning the form of contacts that can be considered (exchanges, migration, aso.). The second stage of the analysis process is bringing out some procedure difficulties, proving that archaeological data by themselves are necessary but not sufficient to answer these questions.
Classical Film Narration
Sladký, Michal ; Bernard, Jan (advisor) ; Marcelli, Miroslav (referee)
The major subject matter to be pursuded in this master's thesis is the classical film narrative, the boom of which is represented by classical Hollywood cinema. This thesis aims to prove that this style has maintained its privileged position also after 1960 and has been effective in the digital era despite of the revolutionary technological changes. It attempts to defend the hypothesis that Hollywood cinema keeps the principles of classical narrative style regardless the digitalization and blockbuster films affecting it.
Rural Area as a Place for New Types of NGOs and Identities Creating.
Klvaňová, Linda ; Skovajsa, Marek (advisor) ; Bernard, Jan (referee)
This master's thesis is concerned with the immigration to rural areas in relation to the establishment of civil associations oriented to ecology and development activities. Through an analysis of three case studies it aims to study the question whether these associations might help the immigrants to integrate to the rural local environment as well as to form new social and organizational identities. The thesis summarises the results of the sociological research of rural areas, the studies of civil society, and also the modernist concepts of identity.

Key sequence in the films of directors who work with long sequence shots and with stylization
Ruzyak, Pavel ; BERNARD, Jan (advisor) ; KLEPIKOV, Milan (referee)
This thesis wants to explore long shots alongside with stylization in cinema. Through three directors are explored possibility and problematic of cinematographic expression through long shots and stylization. Stylisation is connected mainly with mis-en-scène and particular aspects of it – acting, film decoration/props, film space, film sound,... The terms stylisation and long shot (plan-séquence) are analysed and explored on its own and in the films of the chosen directors. The main analysed directors are Andrei Tarkovsky, Carl Th. Dreyer and Béla Tarr and their three films (in the same order) - Sacrifice, Gertrud and Satantango. The chosen directors are from my point of view the best example of the use of stylisation and long shots due to their artistic clarity and coherence. I try to base this work mostly on my own analysis and thoughts about long shots and stylisation based on the literature, films and my own film works, although I also use quotations from directors/authors and quotations from theoretical works. The thesis in its form is closest to the analytic and essay study.
