Anotace Tématem této disertace je politika interpretace v normalizační literární kritice a publicistice (1968-1989). Práce kategorizuje a analyzuje diskursivní, rétorické a textové strategie, které používali literární kritici a publicisté (a jednotlivé profesní a názorové skupiny) publikující v oficiálním publikačním prostoru. Metodologicky vychází z konceptu politiky interpretace podle P. C. Hogana, rozvinutého o teorii jednání a teorii řečových aktů. V první, teoreticko-metodologické části (kapitoly II-IV) je představen a rozvíjen pojem politiky interpretace a analyzovány metodologické problémy interpretace literárněkritických a publicistických textů z normalizační éry. V druhé, analytické a interpretační části (kapitoly V-VII) jsou rozlišeny tři roviny politiky interpretace podle umístění ve struktuře kritického aktu a identifikovány kategorie rétorických, diskursivních a textových strategií. V třetí, závěrečné části (kapitola VIII) je zobecněno a syntetizováno poznání o podobě a fungování kritického aktu v normalizační éře. Annotation...

"Soviet Union - our example!": The influence of Soviet construction novels on the shaping of the basic motives in the Czech construction novels.

Master thesis Soviet union, our model deals with comparison of Soviet and Czech construct novels and focuses on basic motifs in selected novels. For analysis we choose couples of novels to focuse on sphere of ideologically significant aspects in each novels. Its a factory in novels Cement and Cesta otevřená, formation of "new world" in wasteland in novels Dravá řeka and Modré údolí and motivic structure positive hero in novels Daleko od Moskvy a Luisiana se probouzí. Based on text analysis and interpretation this work specifies existing knowledges about influence of Soviet construct novels on formation and development of this genre in Czechoslovakia. The Poetics of Space in The Alexandria Quartet.

Poetics of space in The Alexandria Quartet is created by multilevel structures. This poetics is closely connected to the main space of the story - Alexandria, which is at the same time one of the novel's topics. Each level is suggested in connection to various theoretical conceptions which are subsequently used for my own analysis. Alexandria is initially an aesthetic coulisse of the story which is portrayed by descriptive passages. Strongly subjective and lyrical descriptions of the city establish overall impression of the story and potentially support reader's experiential illusion. Alexandria and its specificity is further modulated and thematised by its special macroscopic conditions which border Alexandria as an autonomous fictional space with its own rules within the novel's fictional world. Part of poetics of the space in this novel is also portraying spatio-temporal aspect of the reality (chronotope) no only on the level of the story, but also on the level of storytelling. Alexandria is further explicit rhetoric and also through semantic indexation personified and enters semantic relations with the main characters and events. Carnivalisation and heteroglossia in prosaic works of Emil Hakl

The goal of this thesis is to show and to think through how Mikhail M. Bakhtin's themes work in general and to interpret prosaic works of Emil Hakl using those themes. This interpretation of Hakl's prosaic works is matched with Bakhtin's understanding of a novel, metaphores of "high" and "low" in the language of genres and with Middle Europe as a cultural and historical cathegory. The goal is to show how Hakl's works are related to those themes and therefore to find out Hakl's position in the Czech literature.

Characters of Space in the Trilogy Trýznivé město by Daniela Hodrová

This bachelor thesis aims to interpret the trilogy Trýznivé město (subsuming parts called Podobojí, Kukly and Théta) by the Czech novelist and literary scholar Daniela Hodrová. A complex structure of the novel is in the analysis "opened" through the categories of space and characters; an axis of the thesis is the idea that in the poetics of D. Hodrová, some places can acquire certain features of living creatures (such as memory, free will, temper etc.) and vice versa, that some characters can coalesce with the space they inhabit. In spite of a firm mutual connection between the two categories, they will be discussed separately, in the following order: after having defined the background (using mainly theoretical works of D. Hodrová as secondary sources), firstly, we will focus on the localization of particular topoi (i.e. "literary loaded" places, e.g. the mountain, the pass, the abyss etc.) and on the description of their connotations in terms of the general sense of the trilogy; the attention will be also given to the non-topographical places (i.e. objects or parts of the body). Then, we will consider the issue of characters, primarily their ambivalent status between personalities, though fictional, and mere literary constructs performing certain functions, and also their transformations...

Superman: The Semantics, Evolution Poetics and Socio-cultural Specificities of the Superhero Comics.

This bachelor thesis considers the genre of superhero comics since its appearance in 1938 to the present time. The thesis, according to chosen comic books, tries to generally describe and interpret superhero discourse, in particular the evolution and various specificities. The main focus is on the comics narrativity and primary aspects of narration (narrator, intertextuality, characters, time of story). There is no analysis touching visual comics aspects. The only exception - the last chapter - examines the impressive evolution poetics of the title-pages.

Bram Stoker's novel Dracula and its film adaptations: A comparative analysis

The master thesis analyses and compares the main characters of three significant works concerning the Dracula theme. It provides a comparison of Bram Stoker's Dracula and its film adaptations, namely Nosferatu - Die Symphonie des Grauens (1922) directed by F. W. Murnaua and Dracula (1992) by F. F. Coppola. The work contrasts the interpretation of a vampire through the character of Dracula, analyses and maps the evolution of female characters in regard to the rules and expectations of society and examines the role of the two most distinct male characters of the story, A. Van Helsing and R. M. Renfield. The three introductory chapters are dedicated to the authors of the works concerned and to the novel and its adaptations, i.e. it describes the circumstances of their conception and their content. The Bram Stoker chapter also comprises a brief characterization and an overview of the gothic novel, the section handling the Nosferatu movie provides a subchapter on expressionist film and the chapter on the work of F. F. Coppola is supplemented with a short outline of the notion of a vampire in pop culture of the 20th century. In the Mud of Dreams and Reality. Autobiographical Features in Prose Fiction of Pavel Růžek and Jerzy Pilch

The present thesis explores works of Pavel Růžek and Jerzy Pilch, its central focus being the analysis and interpretation of their approach towards one's own biography and one's identity as a writer. Although both authors come from the same generation, they address different literary traditions and construct different poetics. What they have in common, however, are literary motifs rooted in their biographies, such as alcoholism, the mythology of childhood, [the existence of] "fateful places," even particular types of women or other characters (including animals). Additionally, the thesis scrutinises the position of both writers in the consciousness of Polish and Czech readership along with their place on the two literary markets.

In a Land Far, Far Away. Theorizing Attempts at Children's and Youth Literature

The diploma thesis introduces critically selected theoretical concepts that try to describe characteristics of children's and youth literature (further: LPDM). It focuses on approx. last thirty years of foreign research in LPDM. Firstly, the attention is paid to theories analyzing LPDM for specific qualities of appropriate texts. Then, the thesis presents theories which primarily describe LPDM on the base of specific context: the context in which the works emerged and are (expertly and non-expertly) received. Finally, the diploma thesis concerns with the potential benefit of presented theories but also with their problematic parts. By that it tries to offer new tools of productive analysis and interpretation of LPDM to Czech discourse of literary science.
