Animal Idioms in Czech and Chinese phraseology

Language is the most important apparatus for human communication. Each language has its own specifics, it is a reflection of a given culture. Language is always changing because people's knowledge and thinking is always evolving. Phrases are typical units of language and studying them will help to understand both languages (here Czech and Chinese) and consequently understand the cultural differences between the two countries (Czech Republic and China). This thesis deals with the most frequent animal names in Czech and Chinese phraseology. The aim of the thesis is to describe not only the structure and types of phrases in both languages, but especially the semantics and symbolism of the most frequently occurring animal names, to compare identical names, to explain any differences in their distribution and to capture their absence in each of the two languages. The issue of acquiring prepositions in teaching Czech to Slavs on the example of Croatian students

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of prepositions in the teaching of Czech to foreigners on the example of Croatian students of Bohemistics. The research on prepositions is somewhat neglected, although it is a complex word class that deserves more attention than it is given in teaching. Our aim was to point out the shortcomings in the presentation of prepositions in teaching materials and to analyse where learners speaking another Slavic language make mistakes. In particular, we are therefore interested in what effect these deficiencies have on students' errors, and to what extent interference errors occur in foreign speakers belonging to a related language group. The Image of Woman in Czech and Ukrainian Phraseology

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the analyses of the Czech and Ukrainian phraseological image of a woman. Based on the excerpt of phrasemes with gender components such as woman, grandmother, daughter etc., it aims to compare the reflection of the main specific attributes of women as well as their social status in Czech and Ukrainian phraseology and culture. Another goal of the thesis is to distinguish gender stereotypes in Czech and Ukrainian culture. The theoretical and methodological basis of the research is a modern cognitive- cultural approach to the linguistics elaborated by the Polish (Lublin) and Czech ethnolinguistic schools with the key concept "linguistic image of the world and stereotype". The bachelor's thesis includes two parts. The theoretical one examines modern linguistic schools which study the problem of the language ─ thought ─ culture relationship; it also introduces/analyses/describes different definitions of the key terms such as "linguistic image of the world," "stereotype," "concept," and "symbol". Presentation of Czech declension in Czech and Chinese textbooks of Czech for beginners

(in English): The aim of the thesis is to compare selected Czech textbooks for beginners at the A1-A2 level in terms of the interpretation of the Czech declension, and in terms of their suitability for teaching Chinese students. To evaluate whether the curriculum is appropriately organized and explained with regard to the target group and whether sufficient attention is paid to problematic phenomena for Chinese speakers. Another goal of this thesis is to compare the difference between textbooks written by Czech and Chinese authors. In the theoretical part, we will first introduce related theoretical aspects. Following are introductions to the six selected textbooks. The practical part will be devoted to all cases and types of declination discussed in the textbooks, comparison of the order of case presentation in the examined textbooks and ways of interpreting the Czech declension in individual textbooks. In this part, there will also be an analysis of the questionnaire data, for example which case is the most difficult for beginners to learn. The last one will be a contrast summary of the textbooks and a summary of the questionnaire. About Children's Literature Translation: A Case Study of Japanese Translation of Edudant a Francimor

Summary: This diploma thesis deals with specific problems of translation of literature for children. It aims to describe the main specifics of the translation intended for children, especially in terms of the use of the language, i.e. lexical resources in the source language and their translation into the target language. After a theoretical processing of the issue of translation, considering the differences between the translation for adult or children's readers, or in general the main characteristics of children's literature in the Czech Republic and Japan, follows a practical analysis of a specific literary work, Edudant and Francimor by Karel Poláček, and its translation into Japanese. In the practical part, this litera work is analyzed by different levels of the source and target text - semantic, syntactic, pragmatic and stylistic. The thesis also examines the issue of translation from a distant language or the issue of bridging cultural differences. The conclusion of the thesis, which summarizes a thorough analysis of the different types of translation solutions illustrated by specific examples and comments on individual examples, whether lexical or pragmatic, etc., should contribute to better translation of children's literature from Czech to Japanese, but also to other distant language. Numeral Expressions in Slavonic Phraseology (Czech-Russian comparison) This Bachelor`s thesis demonstrates Czech and Russian numeral phrasems and idioms comparison. The following phraseological and idiomatical dictionaries were excerpted for its purposes: Czech phraseological and idiomatical dictionary, 1-3 volume (F. Čermák a kolektiv, Slovník české frazeologie a idiomatiky, Praha: Academia, 1983-1994, , 1. -3. díl), Molotkov's Russian language phraseological dictionary ( . , , : , 1986) and Thesaurus-dictionary of modern Russian idiomatics (. . , . . , - , +, 2007). The extracted material was subsequently analyzed from the point of structure, quantity (frequency) and equivalency of phrasems and idioms. Regarding theoritical aspects this Bachelor`s thesis contains both selected information concerning the history and traditions of phraseology and idiomatics in Czech and Russian linguistics and chapters devoted to symbolics of numerals and semantics of selected phrasems and idioms.

Particles in spoken languages

The goal of this thesis is to map a theme, which has not been systematically explored enough by Czech linguists so far. It deals with the material of the Prague Spoken Corpus (PSC), which contains a series of records of authentic spoken language. The thesis presents primarily a comprehensive description of particles, which can be found in the PSC, their semantic classes based on their real occurrence in the natural speech context. It further describes their collocability and syntagmatic relations, including their valency, thus more adequately explains their function in the commonly spoken language. Attention is also paid to their frequency and preferred use within the scope of particular combinations of sociolinguistic parameters, i.e. four variables (sex, age, education and type of discourse) which determined the selection of speakers on recordings to make their combinations as balanced as possible. Some particles are homonymous with other parts of speech - the extent of homonymy and its context dependency just as the processes of particulization are described in the contextual usage of particles and adverbs. On variants in Czech morphology

The aim of this thesis is to introduce a problem which was not very well developed prior to the implementation of the Czech National Corpus: Czech morphological variants. All these variants were analyzed from the perspective of different Czech grammar standards (Čechová, 2000; Česká mluvnice, 1981; Příruční mluvnice češtiny, 1995; Akademická mluvnice II, 1986; and Šmilauer, 1972), the Czech literary dictionary (Slovník spisovné češtiny pro školu a veřejnost, 2004) and the Czech National Corpus (Korpus Syn2005). Analyzed variants were taken from all the Czech nouns: masculine animate and inanimate, feminine and neutral nouns. Due to the limited extension of this work, it was not possible to include variants from substantives with a variation in gender, adjectival substantives, indeclinable substantives, territorial substantives and personal substantives. Religious phrasemes in Czech and Russian (based on corpora research)

In this bachelor thesis we are exploring phrases with religious motives in czech and russian languages. This thesis contains two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on summarizing phraseology history as a linguistical discipline. Beside that, it contains a number of the phraseological and idiomatical classifications by the different criteria. The practical part analyses the phrases and idioms with Biblical, ancient and Slavic polytheism origins by its degree of the equivalence and relative frequency in the chosen language corporas (ČNK - SYN and RNK - publicistic and basic).
