Development of visual qualities in children of early and preschool age
Vávrová, Michaela ; Květoňová, Lea (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The thesis is focused on the development of visual qualities of children in the early and preschool age. The aim is to analyze current trends and research in the sphere of the early intervention for children with severe visual impairments with a focus on developing their visual qualities. The first three chapters deal with the theoretical knowledge about the development of children at the early and preschool age and the development of children with visual impairments, about the diagnosis of visual impairments at the early age and about the methods of visual training and visual stimulation. The fourth chapter consists of the analysis of current trends and research in the sphere of intervention for visually impaired children at the early and preschool age in selected countries. The analysis is realized by analyzing foreign professional publications, articles and research in journals or websites of the organizations that deal with support and assistance to people, or to children with visual impairments. The analysis shows that the system of the initiation of the early intervention for children with severe visual impairments in those countries is not the same. They differ in the level of provided services. In some states the early intervention is still badly available or expensive. They also differ in...
Spatial orientation and independent movement of children with visual and multiple impairment
Bedlánová, Eva ; Šumníková, Pavlína (advisor) ; Květoňová, Lea (referee)
The topic of this thesis is spatial orientation and navigation in children with combined visual impairment. This study introduces different theoretical stages and compares different attitudes of families, teachers and counselors. Furthermore this study is to identify various levels of parents' awareness of this problem. Qualitative research based on interviews has been used for this observation. The objective of this thesis is to create an information brochure which should then serve as an aid and support for parents with visually impaired children. Such brochure should include basic information about spatial orientation and navigation, as well as it should share personal experience and relevant advice useful in daily life. Recent research suggests that parents of visually impaired children learn about these issues mainly from special education centers or Early Care. Materials obtained at said institutions were, according to research, insufficient. However the availability of these materials was satisfactory. Children with impairment need specific and individual approach and teachers, parents and counselors, when working with children with visual impairment, seem to often focus on different subjects.
Dancing with the Eyes of the Blind
Stráníková, Anežka ; Šumníková, Pavlína (advisor) ; Mužáková, Monika (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on issues of dance in relation to blind people. The goal of the thesis is to find out how to compensate for a blind person's lack of visual perception through dance. A secondary goal is to explore what dance means to blind people. The research is based on theoretical solutions obtained by analysis of available sources and based on research using qualitative strategies. To fulfill the research task, techniques of participant observation and interviews were used. From the data obtained through semi-structured interviews and observation of blind respondents in the framework of dance events, it has been found that dance is an effective form of stimulation and development of the compensatory senses of blind people. Most significantly dance influenced the participants' perception of their bodies, developing their capabilities and ability to respond to internal and external stimuli. The results of other interviews show that all blind participants have experience with dance. This experience is overwhelmingly positive. The survey confirms the importance of dance for blind people in the planes of their physical, mental and social faculties. Use of Canistherapy for Stimulation of Persons with Rare Diseases
Prokopová, Zuzana ; Hájková, Vanda (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to assess the influence of canistherapeutic intervention on the level of fine motor skills in patients with rare diseases, namely mitochondrial encephalocardiomyopathy caused by TMEM70 gene mutation and Leigh syndrome. Canistherapeutic intervention in these patients is based on activation of motoric functions during programme reasonably designed according to the needs of specific patients. The assistance of the dog is used to achieve this activation. The dog acts as an important motivational factor and the direct contact with it contributes to development of sensomotoric skills of these patients. The thesis summarizes general information about rare diseases and focuses on one of the subgroups of mitochondrial disorders. It presents knowledge about the Leigh syndrome and mitochondrial encephalocardiomyopathy caused by TMEM70 gene mutation. Subsequently the thesis presents information about canistherapy and fine motor skills. The thesis further contains case reports of patients, data from research units and their evaluation. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether patients with mitochondrial disease show improvement of quality and effectivity of selected grasp forms and thus faster and more precise execution assigned tasks focusing on object manipulations.
