Crowdfunding impact on traditional distribution structures
Böhm, Jan ; Zaoral, Ondřej (advisor) ; Šlerka, Josef (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to discover, how crowdfunding influences traditional distributional structures. There are many possibilities, how to approach the problem. I have decided to compare the role of the intermediary in different forms of financing. This means, that by "distributional structures", I understand forms of financing. I compare five forms of financing, that altogether define all important kinds of financial transactions between two subjects: The bilateral model, Crowdfunding, Venture Capital, Market and Banks. As a tool for comparing all the forms, I created "Intermediate chain", that describes the way from one demanding subject, who realises his needs, through finding offering subject, to making and fulfiling a contract. I use the intermediate chain, that analyses this way, to describe all the forms of financing. The outcome of this process is a very detailed description. I describe all the models to verify, how crowdfunding takes over the function of other models. The theoretical frame of the analysis is disintermediation. Only by putting the analysis into this theoretical frame, the whole thesis becomes reasonable: The point is not to describe all the models, how people trade with each other. By the question about the influence of crowdfunding on traditional distributional structures, I...
Urban interfaces & extensions: sensors, chips, and ad-hoc networks as tools for urban culture
Peterová, Radka ; Kera, Denisa (advisor) ; Šlerka, Josef (referee)
This thesis proposes a DIY environmental sensing approach that empowers citizens to reinvigorate people's awareness of, and concern for, pollution. Current air pollution measuring techniques are described, and a new concept of participatory sensing is presented. I argue that technological advances in sensing, computation, storage, and communication now have the power to turn the near-ubiquitous mobile phone into a global mobile sensing device, and commence the participatory paradigm employing amateurs in environmental data collection. To test the thesis, PAIR, a prototype with interchangeable sensor, was developed. It aims to enable people to sense environment on-the-go and provide users with immediate feedback. Such data can make people learn about their environment, make them aware of air pollution causes, and eventually even bring behavioral changes. Consequently, a user survey and interviews identify strengths and weaknesses of the mobile sensing device, and based on the usability requirements, we conclude design recommendations for further development. Finally, we identify the main benefits amateur data collection and participatory sensing represent for urban dwellers, and we evaluate issues and challenges they have yet to overcome.
Cognitive offloading: About the impact of new media on human cognitivity
Mikšovská, Markéta ; Šlerka, Josef (advisor) ; Slussareff, Michaela (referee)
(in English) The subject of this master thesis is a cognitive offloading, sometimes also called cognitive outsourcing, meaning the impact of new media on human cognitive abilities. This work describes the evolution of the theoretical concept of cognitive offloading, types of cognitive offloading and it's functioning in today's society. Following Daniel Wegner's work, it describes basic concepts such as group mind and transactive memory and it focuses on a specific area of cognitive offloading - the impact of mobile photography on human memory. The thesis summarizes results of existing studies in this field and presents the results of a replicated pilot study conducted with the students of Czech high school. The aim of this study was to find out if - and to what extent - does smartphones impact one's memory and cognitive abilities in daily life. The conclusion analyzes the limits of this work and outlines further research possibilities in this field.

Šírová, Tereza ; Šlerka, Josef (advisor) ; Šisler, Vít (referee)
Diploma thesis The Relationship between the Computer Game and its Audiovisual Pattern deals with the similarities and differences between the computer games and audiovisual works. The thesis presents some theories reflecting different points of view to the influence and blending of these media forms. Those theories are the base for a suggestion of typology of games and movies adaptations that were made according to a pattern. In each of three suggested categories, there are mentioned some particular examples of computer games that were inspired by movie or series and also examples of movies that were inspired by computer game. The final chapter is a case study which compares the computer game Lost: Via Domus to its audiovisual pattern - series Lost.

Vinická, Lucie ; Láb, Filip (advisor) ; Šlerka, Josef (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the motivation of users of Polaroid and Instagram, under the assumption that both media have nearly immediate result and may have a very similar visual stylization. The theoretical part of this thesis is devoted to a brief summary of the history of photography and philosophical opinions on that topic. It introduces Polaroid and Instagram and outlines the possible motivations of their users, using both the scientific literature, as well as personal blogs, articles and interviews. The practical part of the thesis describes the design and process of the original research, which consists of a standardized questionnaire, and its results. With its help we confirm or disprove our hypothesis.
Inclusive Nature of Twitter Communication: Is Twitter Really a Democratizing System?
Štědroňová, Jitka ; Šlerka, Josef (advisor) ; Lipková, Helena (referee)
The thesis explores a very current topic of politicians' behaviour on social media with the emphasis on the inclusive and democratizing potential of these systems. The theoretical framework begins with a short introduction of Twitter and its functions followed by an insight into the history of using Twitter as a tool in political campaigns. The thesis also explores studies from abroad focused on the interactive element of politicians' communication on Twitter. The research contains an analysis of 60 Twitter accounts of Czech politicians which aims to answer the question if - and to what extent - Czech politicians interact on Twitter, whether they reply only to elite groups such as media and influencers or to citizens as well, supporting the democratizing potential of social media.
