Scala Web Application Toolkit
Široký, Jan ; Ježek, Pavel (advisor) ; Kruliš, Martin (referee)
The thesis describes disadvantages of JavaScript in the context of big web applications and presents how they can be eliminated by compilation from a different language to JavaScript. With Scala as the source language, the thesis shows what it takes to implement such a compiler and how to solve issues that arise with the compilation process (interoperability, library distribution). On top of the compiler with a simple runtime a remote metod invocation (RPC) infrastructue is built. It also involves a dynamic client side script loader and an object graph (de)serializer. Finally the work compares the implemented toolkit to similar projects and proposes several interesting directions the toolkit can evolve into. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Using ground penetrating radar in geomorphology
Široký, Jakub ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Engel, Zbyněk (referee)
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a non-invasive geophysical research method imaging subsurface structures. It expanded widely across geomorphologic investigation during last years because of its speed, low-cost, reliable and large-scale capability. GPR is especially useful in sedimentological studies. The thesis is focused on introducing the basics about the GPR method as it is not well-known in Czech geomorphologic scene. The physical background of the device and the electromagnetic waves is given. A research articles and books recherche helped in creating of a reflection summary amended with Czech terminology and graphic examples. The typical reflection answer of sedimentological features were documented and sorted according to the glacial, periglacial, fluvial, paleolake and slope geomorphologic environments. A sequence of steps for editing and interpreting a radargram was proposed and applied on three model radargrams.
Application for Presentation of SCADA System Measurements
Široký, Jan ; Ježek, Pavel (advisor) ; Poch, Tomáš (referee)
The goal of this thesis was to create a web application which will show and present the data measured in the SCADA system. It consists of two halves - the server and the client. The server fetches the data from the archive database, processes it and sends it to the client. The client side presents these data in tables, graphs or graphical schemes. Next part of the thesis was to design a format and a representation of these schemes and implement a simple editor for them. The editor provides functionality to create a new scheme from basic geometric shapes, bitmap images, text labels, etc. Some properties of these objects may be linked to the data sources, so the scheme, in dependence on the data, dynamically changes.

Project Management of the SQA Competence Centre
Široký, Jiří ; Buchalcevová, Alena (advisor) ; Říhová, Zora (referee)
This thesis describes the design and application of the methodology for project management of the Software Quality Assurance Competence Centre. In short theoretical introduction the thesis mentions the basic concepts associated with project management, including several examples of methodologies for project management. Then the thesis introduces the concept of Competence Centers at the University of Economics, Prague and identifies the specifics of the SQA Competence Centre's projects, or the specifics of managing these projects. Theses specific serve as a basis for design of the methodology for project management of the SQA Competence Centre, which consists of seven dimensions that cover various areas of project management. A crucial part of this methodology can be considered a project lifecycle model and process model of project management of the SQA Competence Centre. The methodology is then applied to the project management of the Integrated Testing Tools. Application of the designed methodology made this project and its management more transparent and efficient. This usage of the methodology also highlighted the importance of project manager's ability to motivate project team members. The main outcome of the thesis is designed and proven methodology for project management of the SQA Competence Centre with possible application in projects other Competence Centers operating at universities.
Public Private Partnerships ve zdravotnictví: Evropské PPP modely a faktory ovlivňující pozitivní výsledky těchto podniků
Siroky, Joseph Yan ; Štěrbová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Wright, Stephen (referee)
A number of European countries are turning to private finance for public hospitals and other healthcare infrastructure. Public-private partnerships (PPP) are intended to bind private sector efficiencies, secure appropriate risk transfer between hospital operators, infrastructure owners and other partners, and ensure optimum whole-life asset management. This paper discusses the different factors that influence significantly the outcomes of European PPP ventures, the scope of different PPP models, and experience so far in delivering new infrastructure and stimulating innovation and quality improvements. Finally, it draws conclusions, through recent case studies, on the factors that have a significant influence in shaping PPP models and policies. The methods used were extensive literature research and analysis, further supported by case study analysis of the Pembury Hospital, Braga Hospital, Berlin Buch Hospital and De La Ribera Hospital. The outcome of this paper draws upon the concept of "bundling" of services and concludes that this may be seen as a way of providing more appropriate risk allocation that creates incentives for efficient and effective behavior of the private sector.
Human capital in the public sector in terms of wages and return on investment in tertiary education and its comparison with the private sector
Ernegrová, Blanka ; Urbánek, Václav (advisor) ; Krebs, Vojtěch (referee) ; Široký, Jan (referee)
The aim of this dissertation thesis is an analysis and comparison of the wages and the wage differentials between public and private sectors in the Czech Republic for the years 2008 and 2009, including an analysis of influence of the individual factors (education, length of experience, age and region) on the level of wages in public and private sectors and how the wage differentials affect the size of wage differentials between workers with tertiary and secondary education and the private rate of return on investment in education in the public and private sectors. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of economic theories and research on human capital, wage differentials and the private rate of return on investment in education. The second chapter is focused on analysis and comparison of the public and private sectors wages for the years 2008 a 2009 using descriptive statistics, the ANOVA analysis, Tukey's multiple comparison and regression analysis. The third chapter is concentrated on the calculation of wage differentials and on the calculation of private rate of return to investment in education of public and private sector using Mincer equation and Elaborated method. The result of this dissertation thesis is the finding that the influence of individual factors on the level of wages in the public sector is different from the private sector and that the private rate of return to investment in tertiary education in the public sector is smaller than in the private sector.
Corporate income tax revenues in OECD countries and factors influencing them
Říhová, Lucie ; Kubátová, Květa (advisor) ; Vančurová, Alena (referee) ; Široký, Jan (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to run a panel regression analyzing the impact of economic, legislative and social factors on corporate tax revenues, as defined by existing empiric and theoretic literature. Literature which directly addresses factors influencing corporate income tax revenues is quite limited -- in respect of number of papers as well as in respect of the range of examined countries and/or time period. The latest and key papers include among others Clausing (2007), Devereux (2006) and partly Kenny, Winer (2006) and Gropp, Kostial (2000). Presented thesis on the other hand covers observations for all OECD countries for a rather long time period 1980 -- 2006. This thesis should address all important factors having influence on corporate income tax revenues, including tax avoidance and debt financing. The results of the analysis largely correspond to existing investigations of other authors; however, presented regression is of more complex and general character -- it includes other factors of tax avoidance and data for all OECD members (except for some variables which are not available), including post-communist countries.
