Attitudes toward parental strategies for regulating the use of screens in primary school children - a pilot study
Bláhová, Karolína ; Lukavská, Kateřina (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
Backround: Due to the ever-increasing availability of modern devices, children today are routinely in contact with the digital world. As much as this world benefits us, it also presents many risks. Children are a very sensitive group in terms of development, and it is the parental approach to education about digital media in general that can have a major impact on a child's future attitude towards its use. Aims: The aim of this research is to map the ways in which parents regulate their children's use of screens and how children perceive each strategy. The work investigates children's awareness of the risk of developing addictive behavior on the internet. The pilot study also verifies the adaptation of the Czech media parenting scale from the parent version to the child version Methods: Quantitative research conducted by questionnaire survey was chosen. The collected data were processed by selected statistical methods (univariate and bivariate statistical analysis) and displayed through graphs and tables. Results: Research has shown that mothers show a higher degree of mediation compared to fathers. A statistically significant difference was found in active mediation between the third and fourth year of school education. There was no statistically significant relationship between the gender of the...
Patterns of polysubstance, alcohol and cocaine, use in nightlife setting: Qualitative research
Kazdová, Lucie ; Kulhánek, Adam (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
Background: There is currently an upward trend in the availability and use of cocaine within the European Union. Among recreational users, it is consumed mainly in night-life settings where alcohol is traditionally consumed. Alcohol and cocaine are thus often used simultaneously by nightclubbers which carries significant risks. These users also constitute a 'hidden population'whose characteristics and patterns ofuse havenot yet been sufficiently described. Aims: The aim of the research was to map and describe patterns of concurrent alcohol and cocaine use among selected nightlife participants, providing background information on the context of their use. A sub-objective was to assess the level of risk of alcohol and cocaine use based on respondents' experiences and behaviours in nightlife settings. Methods: Respondents were recruited through social networks and directly in the nightlife environment. Methodologically, it was a combination of non-probabilistic methods of selecting the research population (self-selection, purposive sampling and snowball sampling). The research sample consisted of 14 respondents with whom semi-structured interviews were conducted by several interviewers (triangulation of researchers). The data were analysed by coding them and then creating so-called clusters and...
Process Evaluation of an Outpatient Care with Extended Care for Patients witch Substance Use Disorder as a Pilot Project Focused on Case Management and Multidisciplinary Approach
Špinar, Vojtěch ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
BACKGROUND: In the system of addictology care, the outpatient sector is being strengthened and pilot programs of outpatient clinics with extended care for patients with substance use disorder (ARP-AD) are being created. ARP-AD clients are users of all types of addictive substances, including non- substance addictions, in various stages of addiction and motivation to change, often with comorbid illness. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary healthcare team that works together intensively. Case management approaches and work in the client's natural environment are applied. One of the main goals is the coordination of the current network of addictology (and other) services based on the individual needs of clients. OBJECTIVE: Qualitative evaluation of the ARP-AD pilot programs with a focus on case management and a multidisciplinary approach. METHODS: The original intention was to carry out a process evaluation of all ARP-AD. Due to the failure of the recruitment strategy, the evaluation of only one pilot program - ARP-AD at the Department of Addictology (KAD) - was completed. Therefore, this is a case study. The data sources were implementation reports and semi-structured interviews with ARP-AD staff. The last data source was the ARP-AD Methodology. Implementation reports and interviews were...
Prevalence of addictive substance use among persons diagnosed with ADHD
Svobodová, Tereza ; Šťastná, Lenka (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is becoming an increasingly important research topic among adult ADHD clients. It is likely to be one of the risk factors for developing addiction. Most of the available research examines ADHD in individuals who are already being addressed as part of treatment in an addiction treatment service. Yet, these researches show that hyperactivity disorder does occur in persons with addiction issues. At the same time, hyperactive disorder is likely to be behind many of the complications in the progression of addiction interventions, increases the risk of early treatment drop-out, and places a greater burden on both clients and staff. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of substance use among adults diagnosed with ADHD, i.e. whether this specific group uses substances and to what extent. A complementary aim was to provide insight into what effects substance users reflect and what may be motivating their continued substance use. Finally, the thesis aims to compare these results with the general population. Methods: An online questionnaire inspired by the European Model Questionnaire was used to collect data, which contains a set of questions measuring the prevalence of substance use at lifetime, 12-month and 30-day time...
Emotion regulation difficulties, alcohol use and alcohol-related consequences among university students
Jandová, Tereza ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Nikolai, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis examines the relationship between emotional regulation and alcohol consumption in university students. Alcohol use among this population group cause number of specific negative consequences that published research has found cannot be explained by the intensity of consumption alone. One of the possible predictors contributing to the heterogeneous manifestation of these impacts could be the capacity for emotion regulation. The theoretical part of the thesis provides a summary of relevant theoretical concepts and conclusions of the research published so far. The empirical part of the thesis provides a conceptual replication of the study Alcohol and Alcohol-related Consequences: associations with Emotion Regulation Difficulties (Dvorak et al., 2014), which examines the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation and the harmful effects of alcohol consumption. Measured constructs are extended by binge drinking, compared to the original study. Study was conducted on a convenience sample of university students (N = 602). Regression analysis revealed that difficulties in emotion regulation were a significant predictor of negative affect manifestation in this study sample (R2 = 0,10, F(1, 599) = 65,06, p<0,001). Other predictors were average alcohol consumption (R2 = 0,30, F(1, 599)...
The influence of set and setting on experiencing a challenging psychedelic experience
Jetelinová, Jana ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Minařík, Jakub (referee)
In this bachelor's thesis I explore the topic of set and setting in the context of undergoing challenging psychedelic experiences during ayahuasca ceremonies. I also focus on how these challenging experiences can be integrated into one's life. The theoretical basis for this thesis consists mainly of foreign sources, such as Hartogsohn and Strassman, who have dedicated space to the concept of set and setting in their research. There is a lack of quality research on this topic in the Czech Republic. My aim in this thesis is to describe the influence of set and setting on experiencing difficult psychedelic experiences with respect to the subjective perception and reports thereof of the respondents. Understanding this concept may lead not only to safer use of psychedelic substances, but also to increased potential benefits of the experience for the participant in the ayahuasca ceremony. I have chosen a qualitative approach to conduct my research. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews. The research sample consisted of 8 respondents, 4 women and 4 men. I used QDA Miner Lite software to analyze gathered data using clustering and pattern capture methods. Generally speaking, the results demonstrate a relationship between personal set and setting of ayahuasca ceremony participants and the risk...
Kratom use in Czech republic: questionnaire surwey
Medková, Aneta ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Mravčík, Viktor (referee)
Background: Kratom is a natural psychoactive substance origin to Southeast Asia, which use is expanding in the Czech Republic in recent years. The issue of kratom use is coming to the fore in 2022, mainly due to inappropriate regulation of kratom and reports of increasing kratom use not only among students and adults, but also among children and adolescents. So far, there is very little research data on the use of kratom in the Czech Republic. Objectives: The aim of the thesis was to find out and describe the patterns of kratom use in the population of its users in the Czech Republic. The research also focused on risk behaviors related to kratom use. The sub-goals of the research were to map the use of other psychoactive substances and to determine the connections with the use of kratom. Furthermore, to map the need of seeking professional help due to the kratom use, and to find out the opinion of kratom users on its legal regulation in the Czech Republic. Methods: The research was designed as a quantitative survey, a questionnaire was used to collect data, distributed in online form through social media. Data were collected from 23.10. to 6.11. 2022 and the research sample consisted of 1367 respondents. Data were analyzed in Microsoft Excel using descriptive statistics and pivot tables. Results:...
Predictive value of the SUPRS scale for risky behavior in pupils in the 9th grade of elementary school
Sluková, Šárka ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Gabrhelík, Roman (referee)
In this bachelor thesis, I hypothesize whether a scale of personality traits that re- present risk in terms of substance use, called SURPS, can predict some potential for risk taking behavior in adolescents. Objective: The main goal was to determine whether the SURPS scale can pre- dict the potential for risk taking behaviour in adolescents. and thus have an early detection for work with at-risk individuals. Methods: In this study, I worked with data collected from a four-year pro- spective randomized, three-arm, controlled, prospective prevention study that took place in secondary schools and multi-year grammar schools from 2013 to 2017. Data was taken from the data that related to risk taking behavior and re- sponses from the SURPS scale, and this data was then processed in MS Excel to examine the correlation between the risk taking behaviors and personality traits using graphs and the χ2 test. Results: The graphs and χ2 calculation show that in most cases there is a sta- tistically significant relationship between personality traits of negative thinking and experimental substance abuse towards risk taking behaviour. The other per- sonality traits are only sporadically correlated with risky behavior. Conclusion: In all cases studied, the results do not show a relationship between SURPS scores and...
Quality of Life of MOBA Video Game Players: Questionnaire Survey
Bártek, Jonáš- Jan ; Vondráčková, Petra (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
Background: Gaming is becoming more of a popular leisure time activity. "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena" (MOBA) games have become one of the most played video games in 2022, MOBA games became even more popular than one of the most reaserched genre of games, "Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games" (MMORPGs). Some authors state that MOBA games have the biggest potential for becoming addictive for it's players. However, reaserch does not show the magnitude of playing popular MOBA games on the quality of life of it's players. Objectives: The main goal of this work was to find out the relation between the quality of life and playing MOBA videogames - to figure out how the quality of life of MOBA game players differs from the quality of life of standart population, to find out how the quality of life differs according to their potential hazardous gaming or addiction to gaming, and to find out how the quality of life of MOBA games players differs regarding the time spent playing MOBA games. Methods: Respodents filed in a questionnaire, which was accessible on social networks in online communities of MOBA games players. The sample consisted of 571 mainly Czech players of MOBA games with the average age of 21,7 years. The quality of life was measured with SQUALA (Subjective QUAlity of Life...
Mapping of provided addictological aftercare services for gerontoadictological clients in Jihočeský, Jihomoravský and Vysočina Region
Benešová, Martina ; Volfová, Anna (advisor) ; Vacek, Jaroslav (referee)
Resources: Due to the demographic aging of the population in developed countries, the proportion of seniors in the population is increasing. This trend is also reflected in the adictology which we are increasingly meeting the target group addicted to addictive substances (gerontoadictology). The Czech republic has a relatively well-established network of services for addiction clients in which the residential care service has a justified place. It is focused on maintaining positive behavioral changes, gradual integration of s, which programmes and adaptations it has for them, or what are the gaps in the care of these clients. Targets: egions for gerontoadictology clients. The thesis identifies possible limiting factors for this target group and deserves authentic subjective experience of research in the role of relatives of addicted clients during communications with services. Methodology: Practical part of the thesis was realized by the qualitative research method Mystery shopping during which implementers of the study were finding out by the phone, in the role of potential candidates for aftercare service, needed information. Research group over 18 years of age up to at least 70 years of age. According to the survey there are seven of these facilities. The obtained data were processed by the...
