The Russian Palestine
Kolář, Vojtěch ; Vopatrný, Gorazd Josef (advisor) ; Luptáková, Marina (referee)
Russian Palestine Diploma thesis Vojtěch Kolář Praha 2013 Abstract This diploma thesis entitled "The Russian Palestine" deals with activities of the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian diplomatic corps designed to help Russian pilgrims to the holy places in Palestine as well as local Orthodox believers in the Levant in the 19th and beginning of 20th century. These activities were accompanied by considerable tension not only between Russian activists in Palestine and in Russia, but also in their encounters with Greek hierarchy in Jerusalem and Constantinople as well as with Western diplomats and missionaries pursuing Catholic and Protestant interests in the same area. The aim of this thesis is to offer an insight into motivations, ways and results of their activities in Palestine and to call attention to the difficulties they were facing. This work is neither an apology nor a criticism of either of the instruments of Russian influence - the Russian Orthodox Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem (since 1847) and Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society (since 1882) respectively. Because of the broadness of the subject it was not always possible to follow strict historiographic methods. Therefore this thesis is concerned mostly with biographical material of some of the most influential Russian personalities of the...
Maternity hospital
Kolář, Vojtěch ; Stehlík, Ondřej (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
A new concept of maternity hospital creates a place, where future mother is not stressed and where she feels free. A place, where birth is perceived as a common part of everyday life. It searches a compromise between birth at classical hospital environment on one side and birth at home on the other. Both aforementioned possibilities bring certain risks that are intended to be minimized using this concept. The idea is based on practice from birth facilities from Germany and creates new concept of so called „birth houses“ that is consistent with law in the Czech Republic. Design of maternity hospital should not be based solely on meeting technical requirements of a bulding, but first of all comfort of mothers should be taken into account to make them feel home.
Video games
Kolář, Vojtěch ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Reifová, Irena (referee)
This thesis is based on a detailed analysis of various topics related to the question of whether video games can be art. In the first place it analyzes the current academic discussion on this subject and confronts different opinions of both supporters and objectors of the idea, that video games can be a full-fledged art form. The second point of this paper is to analyze the properties, that are inherent to video games, in order to find the reason, why cultural elite considers video games as inferior in relation to traditional forms of art. In addition to features of games like entertainment, competitivness and unproductivity, this part examines the circumstances that have an impact on current game design, like mass popularity and game developers pandering to wide audiance. Due to these circumstances, the majority of video games can be considered kitsch. Following passage through the application of theory of kitsch on specific video game shows and identifies tendencies in game design that cause this condition. Conclusion of the second chapter, however, shows that some video games exhibit characteristics that are generally regarded as positive elements of art works and by that they avoid being branded as kitsch. The last part of this thesis, based on cluster theory of art, identifies and analyzes...
The attitudes of christian orthodox traditionalists towards the church calendar and attempts at its reform
Kolář, Vojtěch ; Halík, Tomáš (referee) ; Lyčka, Milan (advisor)
The present thesis deals with the devotion and respect paid by the conservative Orthodox believers towards the Church Calendar which they adhere to. It follows their argumentation on several different levels. The historical exposition begins with the foundation of the Calendar and with the efforts to unite the dates of Pascha celebration. Then it proceeds to the Gregorian Calendar Reform in the 16th century, which broke the liturgical unity of Christendom. It ends with the change of the traditional Church Calendar by some of the local Orthodox churches in 1920s. The thesis focuses mainly on the objections of the traditionalists, who find the "New Style" unsuitable in the relation to the Canons of the Church and opposing the spirit of the Patristic tradition. A special attention is paid to the distortion of the liturgical order because of the new calendar which was introduced due to the ecumenical considerations. The main aim of the thesis is to understand the motivations of those who oppose the change of the Church Calendar - to ask, whether the Calendar requires astronomical accuracy, whether it necessarily expresses the unity of the Church and whether it has a deeper impact on the spiritual life of the Church and its faithful.

The impact of predation risk and habitat complexity on trophic interactions in aquatic habitats
KOLÁŘ, Vojtěch
The thesis results of two laboratory experiments focusing on the impacts of predation risk, prey density and habitat complexity on predator-prey interaction strengths and predator metabolic rates, complemented by a brief review of the subject. The experimental system used in the first experiment consisted of cladoceran prey, larvae of three dragonfly species (Sympetrum sanguineum, Libellula quadrimaculata, Ischnura cf. elegans) as intermediate predators, and larvae of a large dragonfly species (Aeshna sp.) as a top predator. The second experiment of investigated how predation risk influences metabolic rates of the intermediate predators.
Creative development of board and card games
Kolář, Vojtěch ; Vondra, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Phung, Hyu Nghia (referee)
This thesis addresses the issue of development and production of card and board games. The introduction describes basic terms related to games and game design. It also explains the specifics regarding card and board games. Also included is the analysis of medium specifics and its differences from other media. Then follows categorization of board and card games using specific examples. Next, the work focuses on the process of game developlemt and in detail deals with the role of game design. Described are basic principles applied in game design and its integration with other neccessary development steps in order to publish the final product. In the next part, game design is analysed regarding its content and the decicions, that game designer has to deal with in relation to the target group of the game. Specific approaches to game design are described at the end of this section. The following section deals with the issue of creating the game interface. Specifically the particular components that games usually contain and the suitability of materials they are made of, regarding time and financial restrains. Thesis is concluded with edscription of application of previously described theory on a project called "Za sedmero horami", which is a card game created to support children creativity.
The influence of habitat structure on aquatic beetles in southern Bohemia
KOLÁŘ, Vojtěch
I studied the influence of fishpond management and environmental characteristics on diving beetles (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae), which are important predators in aquatic systems. In 2014 I used live traps to study diving beetle communities in 117 ponds in South Bohemia. The ponds were divided in three categories: intensively managed, extensively managed, and without fish. In total 26 species of diving beetles were found (N=1346). Overall, the beetles prefered shallow litoral zones with cattail (Typha), manna grass (Glyceria) and reed (Phragmites). The number of species declined with increasing alttitude and depth near the trap, while their abundance increased with pond area and amount of detritus near the trap. Beetles occured more in ponds with lower pH, lower conductivity and higher oxygen content. More beetles were found in fishless ponds. On the other hand, some ponds with high density of fishes but well preserved littoral zone had similar communities of diving beetles to the fishless ponds. This shows that high density of fish in ponds decreases the diversity and abundance of diving beetles, most likely because it decreases the vegetation in littoral zone. During the survey, four new localities of Graphoderus bilineatus were found; the species is protected by NATURA 2000 and has been known from very few recent localities in the Třeboň area.
The influence of biotic and abiotic factors on the communities of predatory diving beetles
KOLÁŘ, Vojtěch
Diving beetles (Dytiscidae) are important inhabitants of water bodies, where their adults and larvae often represent top predators in the absence of fish. I carried out a literature review of biotic and abiotic factors that may affect the occurrence of aquatic insects with emphasis on the impact of aquaculture practises. In 2011 and 2012 I also carried out a field survey at two pond systems near Jindřichův Hradec. I used five baited traps in both the littoral zone and at the edge of the littoral zone and open water. Ponds with fish usually had very low diving beetle abundances, although one pond with fish but well-developed littoral zone had a relatively high number of species, similar to ponds without fish. My survey therefore confirmed high importance of littoral vegetation for diving beetles. This implies that intensive aquaculture practises are detrimental for the diversity of aquatic insects at a given locality. I have also found one individual of the rare diving beetle Colymbetes striatus, previously known from only a few localities in the Czech Republic.
