Teaching consumer literacy for students of second stage of elementary education on the example of dairy products
Jelínková, Věra ; Marádová, Eva (advisor) ; Beneš, Pavel (referee)
In developed countries, the majority of the population perceives food only from the viewpoint of a consumer. Few know its origin, production technology and composition, and they can't critically evaluate, which products are beneficial in terms of proper nutrition. Therefore, this work deals with the development of consumer literacy in the area of food, i.e. food literacy among pupils of second stage of elementary school, where is not systematic given attention to this theme. As an appropriate example for teaching were chosen milk and dairy products, which are an essential part of healthy eating mostly in childhood. In line with the objectives of this work has been created structured summary of the findings of these foods serving as a theoretical background for teachers. It was also done research survey about knowledge and attitudes to milk and dairy products among pupils of second stage of elementary school. It turned out that in the surveyed sample, most of the pupils consume milk and basic dairy products (butter, cheese, yoghurt), but the consumption of other fermented dairy products is considerably lower. Most respondents considered milk and dairy products beneficial to our health, however they were almost unaware of its production technology and were not interested in their origin and...
The energy balance evaluation at spontaneous breathing polytrauma patients with nutritional support in ICU.
Jelínková, Valerie ; Hronek, Miloslav (advisor) ; Kovařík, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis investigates the influence of nutrition support on a set of critically ill patients after the administration of parenteral nutrition by measuring their energy expenditure and substrate oxidation. The study was performed on 8 spontaneously breathing patients during the 2nd-5th day of polytrauma and the variables were obtained by Indirect calorimetry. The mean age of the patients was 42 ± 16 years. Four patients were obese, three were overweight and one had normal weight in the examined group. The measurement was conducted on 7 patients after hypocaloric nutrition administration (1323 ± 281 kcal/day) and 1 patient after hypercaloric nutrition administration (3400 kcal/day). Statistical analysis revealed that the administered nutritional support had no significant effect on energy expenditure and the substrate oxidation preference. However, correlations between the values of energy expenditure, nutrients oxidation, and values of some of the laboratory parameters were observed. The energy expenditure of polytraumatic patients measured at least 4 hours after nutritional administration was 2139 ± 518 kcal/day and 24.6 ± 3.5 kcal/kg/day. This energy expenditure was covered by oxidation of proteins (31%), by lipids (46%) and by carbohydrates (23%). Large variability was found among the results...

Specifics of nursing care for patients with Parkinson's disease
JELÍNKOVÁ, Veronika
Theoretical part: In the theoretical part I describe diagnostics, symptoms, causes and treatment of Parkinson's disease. I deal with care for patients with Parkinson's disease and different specifics of this disease that are connected with it. It is mentioned home care for these patients, too. Research questions and objectives: In the practical part I focus on specifics of home care for patients with this disease. In order to achieve these objectives, the following research questions framed this study: There have been set two research questions in this bachelor thesis: 1. What do nurses think about home care for patients with Parkinson's disease? 2. What do patients suffering from this disease think about home care? Methodology: It is elaborated by a qualitative method survey. The data were collected by means of an interview with nurses and patients. The interview consisted of 16 questions for nurses and 17 questions for patients. The individual answers from nurses and patients were written down word for word and analysed. I asked three home care agencies for their help with my survey but two of them weren't able to help me due to lack of patients with Parkinson's disease. 5 patients were asked for interview, but one of them didn't agree with it and the next one wasn't able to be interviewed due to dementia. Patients and nurses were interviewed in a home care agency or at their homes in Vysočina region. Findings: Survey results were divided into 6 categories and 1 subcategory. The category called "Nurse Education" was extended of a subcategory "Self-education of nurses". The interviews with patients were divided into 5 categories and 1 subcategory. The category called "Nurse and patients" was extended of a subcategory "Nursing errors". The results showed that the nurses emphasized the importance of nurse kindness, understanding, rehabilitation and communication skills with patients and their families. According to the survey the patient-centred care approach is very important. This approach focuses on people's individual needs. It is showed that nurses are well educated in this issue and that patients have positive experience of nursing care. Patients appreciate nurses treating. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that the home car is very important for patient peace of mind. On the one hand nurses emphasized the importance of rehabilitation, communication skills and familiarity with this disease but on the other hand nobody mentioned the importance of taking medications correctly before meals and prevention of constipation. The results of this bachelor thesis will be used as a feedback for nurses working with patients suffering from Parkinson's disease and it can be used for medical students, too.
