Šťastný, Michal ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Hronová, Tereza (referee)
Information on the marketability of the yellow press or tabloid media reveal that the yellow press is the strongest type of printed periodical media. It is therefore clear that this media have a big impact. My thesis seeks to evaluate the persuasive power of the media regarding the opinions of customers and consumers. To substantiate or refute claims that the tabloid media has persuasive power, I chose StarDance IV as a case study. Audience of this competition send their votes to support the dance couples performing during the contest stage. In a world with no yellow press, the basic television audience of this show would appreciate each performance strictly for what it is, and with their own non professionnal criterias: an esthetic and emotional judgement of people they only know through what the program choses to show of them. With yellow press, the audience is offered to judge these people according to new information that yellow press can chose to reveal and broadcast to improve or damage the popularity of individuals. The paper asks whether, when this happened, the dance couple could end the contest due to the negative coverage in the media. Interest on this media is explained by classical psychoanalysis and its concept of the conflict of three components of personality, as defined by Sigmund...

Humanitarian Situation in Kosovo Reported in Lidove noviny and Pravo (1998-1999)
Havránková, Petra ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Hronová, Tereza (referee)
This paper deals with the issue of media bias in the Czech Republic during the Kosovo crisis (1998-1999). Specifically, the paper attempts to answer the question on what kind of attitude the Czech media held towards the interest of the Kosovo Albanians, Serbs, or if they presented a neutral view on the subject. The paper analysis the contents of 231 newspaper articles published in the Lidové noviny and Právo daily newspaper in three selected periods (October-December 1998, May 1999 and July-September 1999). The paper concludes that there were differences between the standpoints in between the two media, and describes the individual nuances. The overall result of the analysis suggests that none of the papers adopted a continuous neutral standpoint and that the positions have evolved correspondingly in the course of the crisis. The paper also presents academic research dealing with the media bias during war reporting and, in conclusion, matches these theories against the results of the contents analysis. To illustrate the overall context, this paper also describes three periods concerned and analyzes the situation in Kosovo from the humanitarian perspective.

Strnadová, Mirka ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Hronová, Tereza (referee)
This thesis describes the reflection of homosexuality in Czech media on the example of marches of homosexuals. Firstly I clarify the main terms and the differences between them, then I focus on the history of perception of homosexuality and the roles of homosexuals in our society. The chosen units for the content analysis are following periodicals: MF Dnes, Právo and Lidové noviny. The analysis focuses on the articles published in the range of three months from the day the events took place during the years 2008 and 2011. In the analytical part of this thesis I firstly characterize the marches held twice in Brno, once in Tábor and once in Prague. All the periodicals were interested in the first Queer Parade in Brno but their interest in the second and third one dropped. The most media attention achieved the Prague Pride in 2011. There have been over 100 articles about this topic and their size rose and dropped equally with the number of visitors of these events. The interest of the media has also been influenced by any kind of negative event, mainly when the marches were attacked by extremists or criticised by politicians. These negative and stereotypical statements in media can be very influential in the way of stigmatizing sexual minority and it is also one of the aspects which this thesis pays...
