Selected psychological connections of changes in teachers' profession and their profesional preparation

The thesis introduces a rather unusual continual discussion concerning the context of social changes and their impact on school life, pre-gradual preparation, and professional achievement of teachers. The text surveys the connectedness between recent social changes and the development of professional institutions, especially schools. The author considers gradual weakening of primarily educational function of schools and their shift of social responsibility toward educative and socializing commitments. As a consequence of such changes special attention is paid to current teachers' position and modifications of their professional activities. The author attempts to state new teachers' competences and highlights of their work. She asks what new demands can be observed in the course of teachers' professional preparation. Regarding the key position of relationships at current schools, the text focuses on communication patterns at school, which are fulfilled via relationships. The author discusses social support problems in details as they represent a crucial factor of teachers' work. The text introduces various approaches to a safe feedback to teachers. Different culture adaptation

Processes of globalisation, advances in communication and transportation technologies, economical and political instability, and of course famine and wars, they all cause increasing migration flows in the world. That is why an adaptation of migrating people for a new cultural environment becomes one of the most important topics for research in cross-cultural psychology. Major part of the Czech researches has a reference to adaptation of Czechs in foreign countries, not to an adaptation of foreigners in our country. This is the reason why we focused on this topic in our research. Our topic is inter-cultural adaptation and psychological problems connected with the adaptation of immigrants in the Czech Republic. We made 22 interviews with immigrants from different parts of the world, all inteviews were then qualitatively analysed. The results of my research proved that foreigner's adaptation process for Czech culture is individua! and depends on many factors like intern~l (personality) and external ones (attitude and behaviour of Czech majority). The issue of death and its psychological potencial

In this study we wanted to explore, if there exists a relationship between spiritual orientation of people and their attitude to death. In the theoretical part, there were this two subjects (spirituality and death) described, explained and related to other important issues (for example: fear of death, the spiritual clime in the modern society, spiritual growth and motivation for the spiritual way of life, spiritual care of dying people etc.). This part discusses three representative kinds of spirituality too - the Christian reigion, the Buddhist spirituality and the "faith of atheists" - especially in their relation to death. In the empirical part we used a modified version of The Test of Colour Semantic Differential to verify that there exists greater integrity between conscious and unconscious dimension of attitude to death among the people with clear-cut spiritual orientation. Howewer, the results of the research haven't made it possible to falsificate the zero hypothesis.

Evolutionary psychology of art

In this thesis I concern with a phenomenon of art within field of evolutio-nary psychology. This phenomenon apparently exceeds the functional and as such it "cries out for an explanation". I explain that evolutionary theories of art consider art in the light of scientific attempt to understand human nature. And in accord with those I ask, why art exists at all or why it is so prevalent in hu-man behavior. There are many evolutionary accounts of art. Yet, I will focus on four of the foremost evolutionary theories of and their proponents: (1) art as not an adaptation, but a byproduct of the evolution of human brain by natural selec-tion (Steven Pinker); (2) art as a product not of natural selection but of sexual selection (Geoffrey Miller); (3) art as an adaptation of social cohesion (Ellen Dis-sanayake) or (4) art as an adaptation of individual mental organization (John Tooby and Leda Cosmides). In the research part of the thesis I further examine one of the above men-tioned theories. Two hypothesis based on Millers theory are outlined and tested empirically in a form of personal ads. Results show, that neither more nor younger women answer to those ads which contain expression of artistic talent though. Thus they do not support Millers theory. The influence in the sect in the Czech Republic

This work deals with sectarian organizations and their influence on life of an individual. It aims to demonstrate the definition of a sect from various viewpoints, and to summarize major characteristics of such a community. The reasons for young people to enter sects as well as the enticements sects use to attract the young are addressed. The life in a sect is also described. A part of the work focuses on the aspects of leaving such a group and on possible ways to help people leave a sect. Prospective consequences of having been a member of a sectarian organization and means of subsequent care are briefly discussed as well. Empirical part of the work looks at the ways people perceive sectarian groups and compares the views of the public with the theory. The questionnaire that investigates these views covers individual chapters of the theoretical part and therefore provides an opportunity to confront the theory with the replies of respondents. The theory is also complemented by casuistries at the end of the empirical part which give a reader the chance to follow the theoretical link in real people's lives. Women on the half way. Mid age experience of recent women

The diploma thesis deals with women mid-age life experience. The theoretical part covers general information on middle age life period in developmental and persona! psychology perspectives. Developmental and mid-age crisis in its specifics are also described. Gender specifics are discussed in women psychology development article as well as in the part about feminist approach to scientific research. Experimental section introduces qualitative research on sample of 25 respondents, aiming to answer the question: How women experience their mid-age life? What do they recognize its specifics? Narrative method was used to interpret gathered data and portrait of recent mid-age woman with her key life issues and identity traits was drawn as a result.

Social support in an illness. The comparison of the subjective view of the "non-psychiatric" and "psychiatric" patient at his social support in an illness

The thesis is devoted to the social support in an illness of adult patients. A theoretical part is engaged in the illness as a pressure situation, patients, their needs and the social support about which we can talk in the context of the illness. The attention is mainly concentrated on the fact how the patients subjectively feel the support whether they accept or reject it, whether they need it and if the way how it is given is convenient or not. An important thing is to feel the support as a positive thing (e.g. desirable, helpful) and a negative one (e.g. limiting). The selective file, whose data are used for the experimental part of the thesis, consists of 40 patients divided into two groups called "psychiatric group" and "non-psychiatric group". Besides a medical diagnosis the fact which of the patients' health troubles are felt by them as the dominant ones is important for their including into these groups. The basis of the experimental part of the thesis is the quality analysis of the obtained data that are also completed with the quantity comparison of separate indices and the search of potential relations of dependence between them with the help of correlations in each group separately. The quality of life and well-being of employees of an educational institution for children with conduct disorders

This Diploma Thesis is dealing with the quality of life and the overall well-being of people working with youth with problematic behaviour. Historical and theoretical background of the life quality and well-being concepts is summarised in the theoretical part. Scientific knowledge gained in this area up to now is presented to the readers, including the impact of demographic characteristics (age, sex, nationality), state of health and social relations on the well-being of individuals, methods the quality of life can be measured and the possibilities of its enhancement. The theoretical part is followed by a less extensive chapter concentrating on the profession of expert pedagogical staff, teachers and social workers in educational institutions where the youth with problematic behaviour is concentrated. Specifics of the work with such clients are outlined there, focusing on those making this work hard mainly as regards the psychological resistance of the expert pedagogical staff.
