Surface-related 2D conductivity of nanocrystalline diamond in-plane nanowires
Rezek, Bohuslav ; Babchenko, Oleg ; Vetushka, Aliaksi ; Verveniotis, Elisseos ; Ledinský, Martin ; Fejfar, Antonín ; Kromka, Alexander
Diamond is an attractive material for nanoelectronics, biological interfaces and electrical transducers. Small device dimensions are highly demanded for higher sensitivity, parallelism, remote sensing and reduced costs. Recently we have demonstrated that directly grown nanocrystalline diamond micro-channels (down to 5 um widths) are feasible and fully operational as field-effect transistors using H-terminated surface conductivity.
Role of microscopic morphology in electrostatic charging of nanocrystalline diamond
Verveniotis, Elisseos ; Kromka, Alexander ; Rezek, Bohuslav
Self assembly of nanoparticles on NCD possible. Films macroscopically homogenous (SEM, Raman), however microsopic structural variations (SEM cross sections) do exist. Detailed KFM and CS-AFM measurements indicate that charge is mostly confined in the inter-grain space.
Polishing a polymer interlayers for diamond-diamond wafer bonding
Babchenko, Oleg ; Verveniotis, Elisseos ; Ledinský, Martin ; Rezek, Bohuslav ; Vallin, Ö. ; Kromka, Alexander
Surfaces of as-grown samples had high local peaks (detected by white light interferometer) that impede diamond to diamond bonding as directly as by employing interlayer polymer.

Potential for nanotechnology approaches in the production of crystalline and thin film silicon solar cells
Poruba, Aleš ; Vaněček, Milan ; Bařinka, R. ; Čech, P. ; Wostrý, P.
Increasing the solar cell conversion efficiency together with reducing their production cost are the trends of the last years which are necessary for the near future grid parity of "the energy from the sun". This paper deals mainly with the first part of trends, i.e., with enhanced cell efficiency while keeping the production cost nearly the same or even lower taking into account the potential for the implementation of nanotechnologies in both monocrystalline and thin film silicon devices.
Structuring of diamond films by reactive ion plasma etching
Domonkos, M. ; Ižák, Tibor ; Proška, J. ; Kromka, Alexander
In this study, two common strategies of diamond film structuring are described. Main focus is on the comparison of top-down and the bottom-up strategies. The top-down strategy is primary related to dry reactive ion etching through masking materials (or even without mask), while bottom-up strategy is based on selective area deposition of diamond film. Several methods of both strategies are demonstrated in details in the article, regarding to their properties and basic principles.
Magnetic properties of doped CeO.sub.2./sub. nanoparticles and CeO.sub.2./sub.-Fe.sub.2./sub.O.sub.3./sub. mixed oxides
Mantlíková, Alice ; Bittová, Barbara ; Burianová, Simona ; Vejpravová, Jana ; Nižňanský, D. ; Holec, Petr
We have investigated magnetic properties of CeO2 nanoparticles and CeO2/SiO2 nanocomposites doped by various magnetic metal oxide ions (Fe, Gd, Sm, Nd). Samples were obtained by co-precipitation and sol-gel method. Particle size has been obtained as 5 - 25 nm for nanocomposite and 25 - 100 nm for nanoparticles increasing with the increase of the annealing temperature. Detailed measurements of magnetization demonstrate paramagnetic state in the majority of the doped samples with maximum magnetization decreasing with the decrease of effective magnetic moment of the dopant ions from Gd3+ to Nd3+. It has been also observed, that the high-coercivity ε-Fe2O3 forms in CeO2-Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposite for higher concentration of the Fe ions (Ce/Fe/Si ratio equal to 1/2/9) and for the highest annealing temperature.
Photoluminescence study of light-induced modifications of (electro)chemically prepared polypyrrole
Galář, P. ; Malý, P. ; Čermák, Jan ; Rezek, Bohuslav ; Kromka, Alexander
Permanent modification of polypyrrole (Ppy) after UV light irradiation were studied by photoluminiscence (PL), optical absorption and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Ppy samples were prepared by electrochemical anodic oxidation and chemical oxidation. Influence of light exposure on polymer properties was studied under ambient condition, low pressure and after polymer annealing from 300K to 520K.
Foreign substrates pre-treatment using polymer composites in plasma-enhanced CVD growth of diamond fibers and layers
Potocký, Štěpán ; Babchenko, Oleg ; Ižák, Tibor ; Varga, Marián ; Kromka, Alexander ; Rezek, Bohuslav ; Tesárek, P.
Nanocrystalline diamond wires and layers were grown by microwave plasma CVD technique on Si substrates. The substrates were pretreated by non-woven composite nanofiber textile composed by poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix and ultra-dispersed diamond (UDD) nanoparticles prepared by needleless electrospinning method. High concentration of UDD in the PVA fibers lead to formation of diamond wires due to a combined effect of UDD particles used as seeding and high pressure difference across the fibers interface. A preferable growth of diamond layers was observed on areas with a low porosity volume of nanofiber textile. The influence of spundond structure on the growth of diamond decreased with lowering of UDD concentra-tion in the primary polymer matrix.
