Linguistic and Cultural Aspects of Doing Business in Multicultural Environment

With the increasing amount of global business models, the matter of language in cross-cultural communication has become increasingly important. This bachelor thesis provides an overview of some of the languages and the way they are used by the native speakers, while defining the influence of the mother tongue. It also explores culture and its definitions, while describing cultural models, namely the Lewis model and the Trompenaars’ model. The theory is subsequently applied on the two subjects of the thesis, England and Japan.

The process of localisation and translation of videogames

The aim of this work is to analyse the process of video game localization. Based on the literature studied, the work is focused on how to adapt software product (in this case video game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) to different cultures and languages, how to introduce new terminology and how to translate and localize new concepts of software products, especially of video games. Bachelor thesis reveals the problems, which usually occurs during the process of translation and localization of names of game characters, names of places, idioms, humour, curse words, stories, fixed expressions, localization of words or/and names, which were invented in the source language. And solutions to these problems on the example of the localization of the game ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’. Explaining not only the way how CD Project RED dealt with these problems but analysing why they have chosen exactly this way not another. Bachelor thesis consists of two parts, the first part of which is theoretical, explaining the concept of localization in general, referring to Bernal-Merino and his work ‘The Localisation of Video Games’ (2013), Heather Chandler and Stephanie O'Malley and their work ‘The Game Localization Handbook’, also Dunne, (2006:1), Cooke (1992: 212-3), Esselink (2000), O’Hagan (2007) and many others. A practical part on the example of the game shows the difficulties that were described and explained in the theoretical part.

Translation tools for specialized electrotechnical texts

This bachelor thesis is focused on examination of translation tools and translation of the professional texts. The work is divided into four main parts. The first part deals with what is it translation and what is the difference between the old and the modern approach. The second part is focused on various translation tools and their definitions. The third part is dedicated to definition of the professional texts, while depicting its difficulties and its specialities. The fourth part presents practical research in form of questionnaire.

Automated xylophone

The aim of this semester project is to design a circuit capable of controlling a xylophone. Then the project examines the options of implementing a user input and its processing. The alternatives of parts of the circuit are considered. Also various approaches to the circuit design and the program are evaluated.

The main subject of this thesis is the process of localization within the process of translation. In the thesis the term of localization is defined, history of localization, localization in translation studies. Specific examples of each localization level, proposed by Jiménez-Crespo, on Czech websites are shown in practical part.

It will also contain definitions of the language of business and different types of discourse, genres and the differences between them. In its last part the thesis will contain the comparison of texts written for business purposes in different genres.

From industrial robots to androids

This bachelor’s thesis is focused on the theme of robotics. In the theoretical part, it briefly introduces the term robot and then it describes history of robotics from the most primitive inventions to today’s androids. It mainly focuses on the most significant milestones throughout the history. The next part aids at the problematics of sociable robots. It describes the aspects of sociable robots and deals with various design and ethical issues associated with the construction of a sociable robot. The last part deals with legal and ethical problems according to the European Parliament. In the practical part, results of the questionnaire survey are presented.

Dále nastiňuje ekonomický pohled na Švýcarsko ? tato část práce je věnována švýcarskému hospodářství, zahraničnímu obchodu mezi Švýcarskem a Českou republikou, Švýcarskem a Evropskou unií, členství země v mezinárodních organizacích. Poslední kapitola diplomové práce pojednává o švýcarském podnikatelském prostředí.
