BUT Area Kraví hora
Vrlová, Ela ; Kyselka,, Mojmír (referee) ; Nový, Alois (advisor)
The topic of the diploma thesis BUT Area Kravi hora is a strategic study of the BUT area at Kravi hora from the previous semester to a scale of 1:200. The subject is the elaboration of the concept in order to bring together the interests of BUT and Brno city in this extraordinary territory for the benefit of both subjects. This work deals in detail with newly proposed objects in the BUT territory. A number of regulations have been issued in the territory limiting the subsequent use of the area, but the current area does not suit the existing potential of the site. The main concept was a creation of a set of buildings that will serve the University for representation and public activities, while allowing the access and use of the general public by the inhabitants of the city of Brno. The whole site will be set up in a newly-built city-wide park and other park areas that will create an attractive part of the now-inaccessible and unspoilt area connecting Veveri with Kravi hora. There will also be added additional features inspired by the existing features in the area, namely the Art Colony with ateliers, then Business Units and spacious Public Workshops. The entire Kravi hora area will be interwoven with a number of services serving both adults and children. The new proposal will also lead to the diversion of car traffic from the whole territory in order to ensure the safest relaxed movement of visitors. There will be numerous parking spaces located on the outskirts of the area. The main goal is to create a strong concept focusing on relaxation, health, education and sport, which should result in the overall opening and attractiveness of the territory.

Karolík, Richard ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Troch, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis investigates the effect of university education on employability in the Visegrad group countries. Education as a part of human capital plays a relevant role in the labour economics. Data from the sixth round of the European Social Survey are applied to this research. The study is divided into three parts. The first part examines the impact of achieving a university degree on employability in the whole Visegrad region. The second part focuses on comparing the effect of completing university education across individual countries of the Visegrad region. The last third part studies the additional value of completing different levels of tertiary education. Results suggest that the correlation between the level of education and the probability of being employed is positive. Those who has completed university education have eighty-seven percent higher chance to be employed, in comparison with those who has completed only secondary education. The most significant difference in employability was detected in Poland and least significant in the Czech Republic. The impact of the additional level of tertiary education on the employability is higher but appears to be diminishing with higher degree. Kavan, Ondřej ; Kučera, Rudolf (advisor) ; Konrád, Ota (referee)
This thesis is a comparative case study that employs the disciplines and subjects of urban studies, history of universities and city planning. It presents and compares the history of the built environment of the Charles University Prague and the University of Vienna from their very beginning until present days. Main subject of the study therefore is the (spatial) city- university relationship and the position of the respective university in it. How many areas does the university use? What are these like? What are the distances between each of them and what is the distance to the attractive downtown? What are the respective historical contexts of all the development plans, which of them became reality and which not? These research questions are answered in the comparative analysis of the two universities. A second subject of the paper is the analysis of the agility of the universities who are facing some global development trends of the university strategic planning and have to deal with them both now and in the future. Do the development plans of the university support the interdisciplinary cooperation, globally competitive science or it's own position in the host city in order to support own attractiveness and efficiency? All these questions are discussed and answered.

Title: Prague grammar school teacher's approach to their student's preparation for biology admission exams to chosen universities Author: Bc. Tereza Hajžmanová Department: Department of Biology and Enviromental studies Supervisor: RNDr. Lenka Pavlasová Ph.D. Abstract: Students' preparation for biology and science studies on the university level is highly influenced by their biology teachers. Therefore it is very important to know the facts about this preparation: for example, how often it takes place, in which ways, which methods teachers consider successful, if they tailor the content of their lessons to the requirements of certain universities etc. By compiling a list of universities providing biology centred programs and by determining the level of applicants' success in these fields, I identified the most popular biology programs. Subsequently, the requirements of admission tests of these programs were analysed in order to maximize the success of the applicants. From these data, educators can learn how to prepare their students. The practical part of this thesis contains a research: I approached 186 biology teachers at Prague grammar schools with a questionnaire survey. Using these questionnaires I came up with the data showing how and under what conditions they prepare their students for admission...

American football as the most popular sport in the US higher education attracts millions of students to compete in various leagues under the supervision of the National Collegi- ate Athletic Association. Matches between the top university teams that are part of the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision belong to the most attractive and historical rival- ries bring high fan support and media attention. However, this also comes with greater stress for competing student-athletes and thus the impact of losing on their psychological state outside the pitch should not be understated. Following previous studies about the impact of collegiate football, this analysis used data about 114 Division I-FBS teams across 13 years to examine the effect of football performance on the academic results of student-athletes. The results showed positive and significant effects of relatively success- ful season on the academic performance of players, whose mentality towards studying and socialization outside football improve in case of a successful season. This supports a phenomenon called "football chicken soup", which states that success in extracurricular activities improve the students' ability to adjust for college life and thus improve their academic results.
