Memory Management in Linux
Tuček, Jaroslav ; Kočí, Radek (referee) ; Vojnar, Tomáš (advisor)
This work describes the memory manager subsystem of the linux kernel. The first part gives a brief account of operating systems architecture and memory management theory - of virtual memory management, page tables, page replacement algorithms and kernel allocators in particular. The second part discusses the actual implementation of these principles in a modern kernel - in linux. Finally, a series of tests stressing the memory subsystem is conducted to determine the memory manager's real behaviour. Limitations of the current linux kernel memory management and some of their proposed solutions are also discussed.
Computer Remote Control Using Cell Phone
Řeháček, Prokop ; Jaroš, Jiří (referee) ; Pospíchal, Petr (advisor)
This thesis deals with the creation of remote control application using Bluetooth wireless technology. The work introduces a modern Android operating system and software development for this system. Application of remote control consists of parts: client for Android OS and server for GNU/Linux. The client was implemented in Java and the server has been created using the Qt toolkit and C++. Software development is divided into parts: design, implementation and testing. The result of this thesis is software that can control multimedia programs for audio and video files.
Methods of Linux Kernel Hacking
Procházka, Boris ; Malinka, Kamil (referee) ; Vojnar, Tomáš (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the Linux kernel security from the attacker perspective. It tries to identify and map all key features and methods used by nowadays cyber-terrorists. One of its aims is to give a comprehensive overview of this topic. At final, it can serve as a small reference for everybody who wants to broaden his knowledge of Linux kernel security. The work consists of four parts. The first part repeats and defines basic notions and taxonomy of operation systems. The second and third part form the core. They cover principles and methods used to hide processes, files, connections, etc. The last chaper is devoted to related issues. A supplement of this bachelor thesis is a set of demonstrating modules, which implement discussed problems involved, and tables, where can be found a comparison of nowadays rootkits.
Contiki NTP Client
Luštický, Josef ; Čejka, Rudolf (referee) ; Kašpárek, Tomáš (advisor)
This BSc Thesis was performed during a study stay at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Germany. The purpose of this thesis is to describe the operating system Contiki for embedded systems, NTP time synchronisation protocol and to design and implement an NTP client for the Contiki operating system.
The Hidden Resources Detector for GNU/Linux
Nečas, Radek ; Rogalewicz, Adam (referee) ; Procházka, Boris (advisor)
The main goal of this thesis was to detect hide resources in GNU/Linux operating systems and analyse tools so called rootkits, which are used to hide system resources. This thesis is devided into two parts, theoretical and practical one. Theoretic part focusses on resource managment, representation, privilege levels and system calls. Practical part covers design and implementation of an abstract detector. Each new detection method is implemented as a plugin. Some of those methods are realized as linux kernel modules. The usability of the detector is compared against real rootkits.
Tools for Migration of GNOME's Settings
Cepák, Jiří ; Weiss, Petr (referee) ; Částek, Petr (advisor)
This work studies the way of saving configuration files in Unix-like operating systems, so the location and content system and also user configuration files. This work also studies the history of operating system Unix and GNU/Linux and describes aplication, that implements gained experience and makes possible to save configuration files and also restore from backup.
Symbian S60
Hlobil, Marek ; Stryka, Lukáš (referee) ; Chmelař, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis concerns with Symbian S60 operating system for mobile phones. The structure and properties of Symbian OS is described in the thesis. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate capabilities of Symbian S60 by design of a demonstration application. For this purpose, an incoming SMS filter was implemented in Python programming language.
Big Block File System
Rajman, Jakub ; Lampa, Petr (referee) ; Čejka, Rudolf (advisor)
Master's thesis treats of implementation of big block file system for FreeBSD operating system. The introduction of this document is dedicated to theoretically analysis, which is oriented on history, sense and usage of file systems. Next chapter describes the architecture of UFS/FFS file system. Implementation part starts with introducing design of new file system, which was isnpired by MSDOSFS file system. Last part of this thesis presents implementation of file system with great emphasis on problems, which can happen during programming.
Attacks on the Linux Operating System in Theory and Practice
Procházka, Boris ; Hanáček, Petr (referee) ; Vojnar, Tomáš (advisor)
This master's thesis deals with Linux kernel security from the attacker's point of view. It maps methods and techniques of disguising the computing resources used by today's IT pirates. The thesis presents a unique method of attack directed on the system call interface and implemented in the form of two tools (rootkits). The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. Emphasis is placed especially on the practical part, which manifests the presented information in the form of experiments and shows its use in real life. Readers are systematically guided as far as the creation of a unique rootkit, which is capable of infiltrating the Linux kernel by a newly discovered method -- even without support of loadable modules. A part of the thesis focuses on the issue of detecting the discussed attacks and on effective defence against them.
Multimedia System for Support of Languages Education
Drápal, Libor ; Eysselt, Miloš (referee) ; Kreslíková, Jitka (advisor)
This project is about electronic learning (e-learning). The first part of this document explains the meaning of the term e-learning, where it is used and what advantages and disadvantages has this type of learning compared to the other methods of learning. The user gets familiar with tools that create the electronic lesson and how to design the lesson. In the second part there are described different techniques and tools to create application interface, to display 3D graphic and to play audio records in different operating systems. In this part, there are described tools in more detail for the operating system Microsoft Windows. The goal of this project is to design and to realize the multimedia system for language education. With the use of 3D graphic and audio records the educational system was created with sophisticated appearance and comfortable control.
