Leisure Time Centre Brno

The theme of my bachelor’s thesis is to design a new leisure time centre building in Brno Novy Liskovec. The area is a defined space by street Plachty. The building site is situated in the northern part of the area, surrounded by blocks of flats. The principle of the draft is based on integration of the building into the park in the context of the surrounding buildings. The object corresponds with blocks of flats in its shape and material, it adapts to the surrounding terrain by incorporation into the slope. Typical of the whole building are concrete, cube, simplicity – they can be seen at first floor outside, contrary to the ground floor - it builds into the surrounding terrain by a material of wood. The leisure time centre building is functionally divided into parts: a multifunctional hall, rooms for leisure and café. All these operations are closely related and complement each other. Green roof of the building is designed for people, equipped with benches. Together with the adjustment of the surrounding park it contributes to the creation of public space on the estate.

The Bachelor thesis develops an architectural study of Leisure time centre which was created within the Public Buildings Studio. The proposed building is located at the Kamenný Vrch settlement in Brno - Nový Lískovec. It is placed in the middle of large recreational area and it serves as a community centre for inhabitants of the surrounding settlement. The main idea beneath the design was to create a place where users will have enough privacy and space to get to know each other during common activities. The building has two floors. There is a cafe, MEP room and open public space with a playground and benches on the ground floor. On the first floor there are rooms of the community centre - library, club for seniors, art room, club for children, rehearsal room, multipurpose hall and office for employees of the centre. The rooms are set around an open court with intensive vegetation. The supporting structure of the building combines monolithic reinforced concrete on the ground floor with wooden and steel elements on the first floor.

Proposal of the residential complex at Pastviny concentrates on forming of pleasant housing in a nature environment with high quality, in the city. Basic of the concept was to offer to the future residents comfort of private inside courtyards/ gardens and public space for everyday activities and meeting at the same time.

Animation prerequisite of Prague buildings from the 1960s

The bachelor thesis focuses on the architecture of the 1960s in the former Czechoslovakia. Its aim is to create a list of all buildings from this period, built on the territory of Prague and chart their prerequisites for a successful inclusion to life of a present society. It also includes a chapter describing the phenomenon of prefabricated housing estate. The theoretical part defines the basic terms of animation, public space and outlines the issues interposing culture into economic framework.

Management creating community gardens - housing development Máj České Budějovice

This master's thesis examines the delineation of a community garden centre including technical and applied theory, which is then incorporated into a functional model. The theoretical part focuses on the creation of community garden centre and the characterization of accompanying aspects from sociology, public spaces, environmental education, legislation and other topics. The second part of this thesis examines applied theory, focusing on the conversion of theoretical knowledge into a functional model of community garden centre. The model is created within a unified strategy and according to public demand. The informatical basis for deciding outputs includes local analysis, SWOT analysis and demand analysis.

Public space as an integral part of city infrastructure at the example of Hradec Králové

The diploma thesis is dealing with public space in the city of Hradec Králové and the main participants that influence the form of public space the inhabitants of the city. The thesis describes the urban development of the city, the implementation of plans in public space and the most important events held. A survey was carried out thanks to which the level of participation of the inhabitants of the city in the events that were held was found out, their aproach towards the public space and the way they saw the changes that were made in the public space. On the whole it summons the recommendations and advice from the inhabitants in this area which is put in contrast with the statement of the authority of Hradec Králové. It also confronts the economic parameters of possible further changes in public space. The thesis results in general advice for the development of public space in the city of Hradec Králové but also in other cities.

Metamorphoses of public space. Mechanisms of transformations of Lesser Town Square in Prague.

The bachelor thesis deals with the transformations of Lesser Town Square in Prague between the fiftheenth and the second half of eighteenth century. The methodical framework provides the grant project Faces of the Community: Images, symbols and performances in the late medieval and early modern towns (1400-1700), which analyses the formation of the urban public space through visual media, that constitute one possible way of representation of individuals, families and various groups. The author seeks to answer the question which identities intervened to the public space of the square, which targets the had and which visual aids used to achieved them.

Public space of contemporary cities and town – new forms and current problems

The essay deals with public space both as a physical phenomenon and social phenomenon. In the frame of methodological questions it defines its fundamental social meaning Different factors that endanger public spaces today are mentioned. However, at the same time we are witness of the renaissance of public spaces which are becoming the tool of the renewal of larger districts of cities and towns. Both the remodelling of historical places and new types of public spaces are analyzed and demonstrating on examples from Czech and foreign cities.

Marketing significance of the presentation of arts in the public space of the Statutory city of Brno

The aim of this diploma thesis is to draw attention to possibilities of presentation of arts in the public space and its benefit for Arts and cultural organisations marketing. The thesis concentrates on the area of Statutory city of Brno and provides both evaluation of benefits of selected implemented events and results of my own marketing research. In the introductory part of the thesis, there are some important theoretical expresions and contexts explained. Furtheremore, there are described possibilities of elimination of barriers of both the access and approach of the public to arts through their presentation in the public space. An important part of the thesis deals with presentation of arts in the space of shopping centre Galerie Vaňkovka Brno and provides particular examples which demonstrate benefits of cooperation of a shopping centre with individual artists or cultural institutions. The most significant point of the thesis is the marketing research conducted among visitors to Galerie Vaňkovka. On the sample of 200 respondents I examined how the visitors to Galerie Vaňkovka perceive presentation of arts in the space of shopping centre. The conclusion which I reached is that presentation of arts in such spaces can support significantly the marketing of arts and cultural institutions.
