Role of social worker in a hospital
Svobodová, Nikola ; Tomeš, Igor (advisor) ; Šámalová, Kateřina (referee)
The diploma thesis is focused on the main activities of the social workers at the hospitals in Prague, the regional hospitals, and one former district hospital. Within the theoretical section of the abstract there are clearly defined fundamental concepts of social work in health care and its historical transformation. The chapters consist of four sections: ethics code, the quality of social work at the hospital, valid legislation, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration within the hospital. The theoretical part focuses on job description, competencies, skills or personality characteristics of the social worker in the hospital. The last section describes social work in the hospitals by different target groups with whom the social workers can come into contact. The empirical part of this diploma thesis is acquired by the semistructured interviews. The main research question tries to find out the role of the social worker at the hospital. The research targets three surveyed areas: The first examines the qualification skills of the social worker at the hospital. The second refers to the job description of the social worker at the hospital's core business activities. The last part of the research is dedicated to interdisciplinary collaboration among hospital staff. The discussion consists of compared...

Andrea Ulianková, betroth SPIRITUALITY IN THE LIFE AND WORK OF MONS. VILIAMA HOTKU. Praha 2006, 45 s. Virtual theme of the work is the core spirituality of Viliam Hotka - a Slovak cleric, which is betroth spirituality. It brings us closer to the theme of betroth symbolism as a starting point of betroth spirituality as we find it in the tradition of the Old and New Testaments, in liturgy and in the mysticism of Christianity. Substance of the work is the life and work of the researched (studied) figure and a systematic presentation of betroth spirituality. The heart of the betroth spirituality rests in the emphasis of the spiritual reality of the gift of existential unity with God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. The work introduces the living through the betroth aspect of spirituality in the community Gratia, which is based upon spiritual foundation of Mons. Hotka and shares his personal charisma and spirituality. Key phrases: betroth symbolism Christian mysticism betroth spirituality existential unity community

Narrating history, constructing identity: the postmodern turn in William Faulkner's Absalom! Absalom!, The Sound and the Fury and Go down, Moses
Žebrowska, Barbara ; Quinn, Justin (referee) ; Ulmanová, Hana (advisor)
The gradual and contestable transition from the modem to what has come to be labeled as the postmodern era has been characterized as unnerving. This transition, it is said, has unsettled and is still in the process of disquieting all areas of human enterprise and knowledge. The term postmodernism encompasses a disputable set of ideas and features; its time frame and applicability to different subjects are also questionable. It is this very aspect of questioning that most aptly delineates the process by which postmodernist outlooks approach the contemporary world. At the core of this questioning lies an incredulity toward any reality and truth. Rather, reality, postmodernism says, is constructed and defined solely by language. This fore grounding of language before the existence of external reality casts a new light on the creation of meaning and identity in the postmodern world. The modernist endeavor to find the essential core in one's identity disintegrates in the postmodern understanding of identity as a cultural construct that is determined only in relation to its surroundings. Without these relations, be it familial or societal, identity - and for that matter all meaning - bears no substance and faces the perpetual threat of becoming lost. A sense of loss informs postmodern philosophy, and it entails...

Forensic ballistics
Bohoněk, Miloš ; Konrád, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Krupička, Jiří (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to provide a general introduction to the field of forensic ballistics. The thesis is based on the analysis and comparison of numerous Czech and international monographies and articles, as well as on findings derived from a supervised visit to the Institute of Criminalistics Prague. As such, it provides a compact and up-to-date overview of forensic ballistics in the Czech Republic. The thesis is composed of eight chapters followed by a bibliography, an abstract and keywords. Chapter One is introductory and lays out the purpose of the thesis, the goals and the methods used. Chapter Two takes a closer look at the history and evolution of forensic ballistics, both abroad and in Czechoslovakia. Chapter Three answers the question "What is forensic ballistics?" in detail. It contains a definition of forensic ballistics and provides a reader with information about the main purpose of forensic ballistics. Chapters Four to Six are the core of the thesis. Chapter four deals with the objects examined by the forensic ballistics and is therefore subdivided into four parts, addressing each object separately: firearms, ammunition, objects struck by a bullet, and further material and immaterial objects. Chapter Five concentrates on ballistic marks and as such is subdivided into five...

Synthesis of cyclodextrin derivatives for practical applications
Popr, Martin ; Jindřich, Jindřich (advisor) ; Kraus, Tomáš (referee) ; Šindelář, Vladimír (referee)
Synthesis of cyclodextrin derivatives for practical applications Abstract The first part of this PhD thesis is focused on the synthesis of a series of monosubstituted tetraalkylammonium cyclodextrin (CD) derivatives. The emphasis was placed on the possible applicability of the synthetic process to multigram or even industrial scale. Monotosylation of the native cyclodextrins (-, -, -) on the primary side of the macrocycle afforded the starting materials. Derivatives with one cationic group were prepared by the reaction with aqueous trimethylamine. The reaction of the mono-Ts-CD with neat N,N,N'-trimethylethane-1,2-diamine or N,N,N'-trimethylpropane-1,3-diamine and subsequent methylation led to derivatives with the substituent bearing two cationic groups (PEMEDA- and PEMPDA-β-CD). Analogs bearing a moiety with three tetraalkylammonium sites were synthesized by reaction of mono-Ts-CD with bis(3-aminopropyl)amine with subsequent methylation. 1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition of mono-6- azido--CD with diaminoacetylenes followed by methylation led to analogs with a avariable distance of the charged substituent from the CD core. Majority of the presented reactions are straightforward, relatively high-yielding and the workup does not require chromatographic steps. The second part of the work is dealing with the...

Perception of political boundaries and their role in the division of geographical space: the Irish-British and Bohemian-German boundaries between 1750 and 1850
Power, Martina ; Klusáková, Luďa (referee)
Perception of political boundaries and their role in the division of geographical space: the Irish-British and Bohemian-German boundaries between 1750 and 1850 Abstract This thesis aims to assess changing perceptions of political boundaries and space as represented in German travel literature about Bohemia and British travelogues about Ireland between 1750 and 1850. Both countries had multi-ethnic and multicultural features, historically defined boundaries and were parts of more extensive political units. The perception of political belonging is examined especially in the context of integration tendencies coming from the state cores. The thesis also examines the importance of alternative types of boundaries, e.g. geographical boundaries (sea and mountains that were often described as "natural boundaries") and cultural boundaries. It is presumed that confessional, linguistic and ethnic boundaries, as well as boundaries between different types of landscape (mountains or lowland) and between poor and prosperous regions, will be of importance in Bohemia and Ireland. Although the presence of cultural boundaries could have a manifestation in the physical appearance of landscape, the construction of the cultural boundaries is considered to be a product of observers'/travellers' mind. Therefore the thesis analyses...

This study is focused on Regional Policy of European Union, mainly on EU regional policy evaluation with respect of its impact on convergence, in accordance with the reduction of regional income and unemployment rate disparities. The Aim of this study is to examine the convergence within the European Union at regional level. I focus on a measure of regional income disparities in per capita GDP in European Union. For this purpose I chose a comparative analysis of income regional disparities based on the "core-periphery" theory. The data used for this analysis covers fifty years of European Communities since the foundation of EC till present EU25. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

International arbitration and the Brussels' jurisdictional regime
Macháčová, Paulína ; Pauknerová, Monika (advisor) ; Brodec, Jan (referee)
in English The purpose of this master's thesis is to analyse the interfaces between international arbitration and litigation within the Brussels' jurisdictional regime. Arbitration has always been excluded from the scope of the Brussels' regime. However, the exact scope of this exclusion was always unclear and subject to long lasting debates and disputes. The consequences of determining whether a certain issue falls within the exclusion or not are far reaching and may seriously jeopardise the enforceability of an arbitration agreement and the effectiveness of arbitration in general. The main problem connected with the uncertainty regarding the actual scope of the arbitration exclusion, is the risk of parallel proceedings and conflicting judgements. Firstly, this thesis provides a general characteristic of alternative dispute resolution with focus on international arbitration and sources of its regulation. The overview of the history of the arbitration exclusion follows in order to create a foundation for the following analysis of the exclusion itself. The core part of the thesis aims to determine the scope of the arbitration exclusion, mainly through the analysis of the CJEU's case law and relevant literature. Special attention is paid to the judgements on validity of an arbitration agreement and...

From machine to icon:car in popculture from the 60s
Rybář, Václav ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
An automobile is one of the most important phenomenons of modern technology. Since its origins, it has profoundly shaped our physical, economic, politic, social, cultural and media habitat. The objective of this Master thesis is to analyze the evolution of the role of the car in the popculture from the 60s onwards and its dimensions, with a primary focus on Anglosaxon culture, with excursions to Asia and continental Europe, primarily Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic. The core foundation of the thesis lies in the analysis of the popcultural genres, selected films, TV series, computer games and comic books. The main purpose of the thesis is to reflect upon the identity and conceptual shifts of car, going from a mere transport machine through a vehicle of product placement towards the concept of the icon, a narrative hero of popculture. The hypothesis to verify is that the car has become an essential part of the popculture itself, reflected in many various dimensions: car as a toy, car as a friend, car as a status symbol, car as a narrative extension of the hero and finally, car as a hero and subject. The thesis is divided into five separate chapters, all including case studies. Following an introduction summarizing cultural, economic and historic factors of the car industry, the first chapter describes...

Presenting results of software model checker via debugging interface
Kohan, Tomáš ; Šerý, Ondřej (advisor) ; Jančík, Pavel (referee)
Title: Presenting results of software model checker via debugging interface Author: Tomáš Kohan Department: Department of Software Engineering Supervisor of the master thesis: RNDr. Ondřej Šerý, Ph.D., Department of Distributed and Dependable Systems Abstract: This thesis is devoted to design and implementation of the new debugging interface of the Java PathFinder application. As a suitable inte- face container was selected the Eclipse development environment. The created interface should visualize results of JPF and details of paused JVM state, es- pecially a list of variables and their values. Two subprojects were created, i.e. debug4jpf and JPFDeb.core. The first one is responsible for controlling and communication with the JPF instance. The latter one is an Eclipse plugin and provides user interface which is similar to the interface of standard Java debugger. These two components communicate with each other by using the ad-hoc communication protocol created for this purpose. Keywords: Java, verification, model checker, JPF, debugging interface
