Syllable Segmentation of French as Perceived by Czech Speakers

Title of the thesis: Syllable Segmentation of French as Perceived by Czech Speakers Keywords: Phonetics, Phonology, Syllable, Syllable Segmentation, French, Czech Abstract: The study entitled Syllable Segmentation of French as Perceived by Czech Speakers, is concerned with the difference of syllable segmentation in French and in Czech. The aim of the thesis is to find out to what degree the Czech speaker's ability to segment syllables in French is influenced by his mother tongue. To answer this question various methodologic procedures are employed: observation, then comparison of Czech and French theory books which allow forming the hypothesis. Subsequently, the hypothesis is verified in a quality based research which examines the pronunciation of Czech speakers reading a text. Their syllable segmentation is analyzed and evaluated. The thesis is divided into seven parts: Introduction, 1. Description of the basic rules of the Czech syllable, 2. Description of the basic rules of the French syllable, 3. Hypothesis, 4. Presentation and description of the analyzed material, 5. Analysis of the syllable segmentation, Conclusion. Commentary is also included. The introduction contains basic information about the translated text. Authentic documents have been an integral part of foreign language teaching since the 1970s. The aim of this master's thesis is to present the theoretical background of the didactic use of authentic documents in the teaching of French. This is comprised of the classification of documents, criteria for their selection, as well as their benefits toward developping communicative and general competencies. This paper includes an analysis of selected French textbooks and suggestions of authentic documents to be used in the teaching of French as well as documents on the Internet.

Comparison of the Tense Systems in Spanish and French: the Use of the Present Perfect and Past Simple This paper is concerned with tenses in Spanish and in French. First they are analysed generally, from the theoretical point of view, and subsequently, the author focuses on comparing the use of two of them: the present perfect and the past simple. The author is building on the conviction that although the verb systems of Roman languages are nearly identical, and also that the basic values of their tenses are identical, their specific uses may differ. First, she examines how tenses participate in the expression of time in language and how they can refer to extralinguistic time. As much attention has been paid to this topic, part one of the paper examines the theories that have been reflected the most in works on Spanish and French verbs. The fact that each of them emphasises a different aspect in explaining the meaning and function of each tense allows us to better understand the fundamental value of the tenses. One chapter is devoted to the diachronic view of the Roman system of verbs which allows us to see which features and development tendencies are common to all Roman languages, and which are only found in some of them. Varieties of spoken French in South-Western France

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe spoken varieties in the Midwestern France. Considerable attention is paid to the presence of regional languages (poitevin-saintongeais), dialects and regional French typical for the examined area. Before treating linguistic characteristics of these variations, it is necessary to define the basic differences between the above-mentioned regional variations. The main part of this thesis deals with the occurrence of selected regional expressions typical for the region of Poitou-Charentes. This language aspect is tested by quantitative research led in the above-mentioned area.
Cleft Sentences in Norwegian and French

This thesis deals with cleft senteces in Norwegian and French. The analysis is carried out on Norwegian originals and their French translations. This makes it possible to study the cleft sentence in the same context. Cleft sentences in Norwegian were analysed from the functional sentence perspective, syntactic and morfological point of view. It means that I studied the contextual dependece or indepence of the sentence elements and their degree of communicative dynamism, syntactic function of the focused elements and which words represent the focused elements. The informations for the first part of my thesis I have found in France or with the help of French institut of Prague or with internet. I had some problems with the second part, the education of french in our country, there are not so much informations of this dilemma. I wanted to summarise the informations of the education of french, because there is no document about this question, so it was my another butt of my thesis. I have also targot the practically respect, for example the book reviews or questionaries for children. My thesis gave me the enriching of the sphere, whitch is very important for me. There are two parts of my work- the first about the french education of foreign languages at primary school and the second about the czech education of french at primary school. Chapters and sub-chapters go into the profundity od the problem.
French deminutives in lexicographic tradition (16th - 18th centuries)

This thesis treats the tendencies in the development of diminutives in French dictionaries between 1539 and 1787. In this period develop both French lexicography, a new linguistic discipline, and French language. Diminutives belong to the set of words that were declassificated during the 17th century and were estimated as undesirable for the speech of an honest man - "honnte homme", eventhough these were relatively appreciated in the previous century. On the basis of research we present diminutives that occur in seven lexicographic works (in the dictionaries from Robert Estienne, Jean Nicot, Randle Cotgrave, Pierre Richelet, Antoine Furetire, French Academy and Abbé Féraud). Thus we are able to observe the stability of particular diminutives as well as the category as a whole. If we encounter the deminutive form in the dictionories from the end of the 17th and 18th centuries, it is very likely to be the case of a lexicalised diminutive, independent on the previously diminuted word. In parallel to that, we also deal with comments - marque d'usage - that generally detach diminutives out of bon usage. Comparative analysis of nominalization processes in French scientific and popularization articles on chemistry

v anglickém jazyce: This bachelor thesis deals with processes of nominalization in French scientific and popularization articles on chemistry. In order to examine processes of nominalization in French scientific texts, this study first analyses the scientific genre in general, characterizes its stylistic standards and describes the system of its inner differentiation (scientific genres and popularization genre). The main part of this thesis is then focused on processes of nominalization in French scientific texts, more specifically on the transformation from verbs to nouns. The outcomes of the theoretical part are verified by means of quantitative analysis which is realized on a corpus of scientific texts on chemistry in selected substyles.
