Serbian krsna slava in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Skenderija, Ivana ; Bittnerová, Dana (advisor) ; Zandlová, Markéta (referee)
This thesis focuses on issues of multi-layered identities within a social space. It analyzes ritual (or ceremony) as one of the codified displays of culture within which collective ideas and attitudes regarding identity are manifested, shared, and strengthened. Bosnian Serbs - due to political and social change - were forced to redefine their position in society, as well as their (collective) identities and social ties. Slava is a fundamental ritual seen as an attribute of "Serbianness", and in the context of this study, manifests itself as an indicator of establishment and validity of collective identities. Slava is a traditional celebration practiced by Orthodox believers in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Bulgary, Albania, and Macedonia. It is a festivity of either a family, village, or local church patron. At the center of this research will be an individual slava of a family patron saint, krsna slava, or krsno ime. For Bosnian Serbs, krsna slava is currently a revitalized ritual concurring with local tradition and convening with social ambitions of current inhabitants in the region (otherwise it would not be revitalized). The pertinence of this research subject is given by the nature of ritual itself as it is founded on collective sharing and the manifestation of common ideas1 ....

Petrlová, Eva ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis aims to interconnect a theory of normative power Europe with the activities of the EU and its affect on the Western Balkans. The theoretical concept of normative power is based on the assumption of the EU as a normative actor who is able through its norms, values and principles to become a major civilian actor in international relations, especially in the area of conflict management. The theoretical part of the paper therefore focuses on the concept of normative power EU (NPE) as it is presented by Ian Manners, and how its normative character is reflected in the common security and defense policy. It is analysed how the NPE is diffused in selected countries of the Western Balkans through four chosen transfer mechanisms by Manners that comprise the operationalization of the thesis at the same time. Therefore the aim of this work is to contribute to the further broadening the debate over the EU's role in the international system, but also to find out how the norms and values are transmitted in selected countries of the near neighborhood - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Kosovo. All of this with regard to democracy, human and minority rights, peaceful settlement of disputes, good governance etc., which encompass the basic values of the EU. The selected operationalization has allowed...

Isolated Dubrovnik: Possible transport connection solutions of the Croatian territory divided by the Neum area
Vedral, Martin ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Žíla, Ondřej (referee)
The Master thesis deals with potential solutions of transport connection between two parts of the Croatian territory separated by Neum of Bosna and Hercegovina. The territorial separation became rather problematic after the Croatian entry into the European Union on July 1, 2013. Much stricter border controls between Croatia and Bosnia have considerably complicated traveling to the two parts of Croatia. In its historical section, the study explains why and when the unusual separation originated. Further, it deals with possible solutions that arise and assesses their economic and ecological demands while taking international law aspects into consideration. In the analytical part, the thesis aims to analyse the interests and goals of each player that directly influences the problem or the problem indirectly affects them. The players are the European Union, both Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, local authorities, and Croatian political parties. The author concludes that the Peljesac Bridge, going from the Croatian territory to the Peljesac Peninsula, is the most likely solution out of all discussed options. To finish the bridge successfully, however, Croatia needs to get considerable amount of money from the EU as it does not have sufficient means to finance such a technology and construction...

Bosnian Identity in Post-Yugoslavian Literature
Janečková, Tereza ; Otčenášek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Nedvědová, Milada (referee)
This disertation deals with the question of the common Bosnian identity in post-Yugoslavian fiction. It first sets up basic theoretical principles: the phenomenon of national literature and literature identity - only to prove later, on several examples of pre-Yugoslavian and Yugoslavian fiction, that such identity did exist. Finally, the work analyses several quotes of both Yugoslavian and exile authors and seeks, leaning on the theory of the myth falling apart, to establish the answer to the above question. ŽÍLA, Ondřej: "Are You the One and Only Homeland I have?" Ethno-demographic Changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1945-2012 Abstract Thesis on "Are You the One and Only Homeland I have?" Ethno-demographic Changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1945-2012 analyses population development of three constitutive nations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, transformation of ethnic proportional representation of Bosnian population due to differences in demographic behaviour and spatial impacts of forced migration on population distribution after the end of the civil conflict in the 1990s. The main focus is on comparing the development of the ethno-demographic structure of socialist Bosnia and Herzegovina with the condition of the country after the war. The current demographic characteristics of the population, and contemporary ethnic composition of the country remains fundamentally affected by events related to the conflict: the so called forced migration and ethnic cleansing. The thesis compiles two fundamental approaches, one of them being the top-down approach. It focuses on the characteristics of the role of Western powers in the post-war peace-building process, specifically the analysis of their principal objective - restoration of the original ethnic heterogeneity by means of controlled repatriation of refugees, and evaluation...

Jungwirth, Tomáš ; Hofmannová, Mahulena (advisor) ; Bílková, Veronika (referee)
Title Capability of international law to resolve an ethnic conflict: case of Bosnia and Herzegovina Abstract The thesis deals with the complex issue of international law's capability to resolve an ethnic conflict, relying to a great extent on a case study of the Dayton system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It aims to take an interdisciplinary approach, focusing not only on legal issues but also on sociological and other relevant aspects. The first chapters attempt to summarize peace proposals preceding Dayton and are followed by a legal analysis of the adopted documents and a subsequent thorough examination of the most significant and visible aspects of their implementation. The last chapter then reviews the topic from the standpoint of conflict resolution. Several key questions are formulated in the preface: Is international law able to deter the risk of yet another outbreak of armed conflict in Bosnia? Are its limits or flawed imposition the immediate cause of the present state? Has the international regime in Bosnia become completely dissasociated from the sociological substratum? Whilst seeking for answers, much attention is paid to the perception and reception of the Dayton system by various interest groups within Bosnia's society as well as to international community's ensuing engagement in the country....
