Šmídová, Michaela ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Hauser, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the development of common immigration policy in the EU in relation to the member states, who are often blamed for the slow progress in the realization of common policy aims. Two member states, Italy and Poland, are analysed in their approaches towards the common immigration policy. Focus is put on the examination of their national influence in the field of migration and its compatibility with the EU approach. The conclusion states a significant influence which the member states have on the development of the common immigration policy, especially in their accentuation of the restrictive character of migration policies. This has been typical of Italian approach until recently. Polish situation is different because of its only recent accession to the EU before which it had to harmonize its migration legislation with acquis communitaire. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Maršánová, Lucie ; Janoušek, Oto (referee) ; Ronzhina, Marina (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of experimental electrograms (EG) recorded from isolated rabbit hearts. The theoretical part is focused on the basic principles of electrocardiography, pathological events in ECGs, automatic classification of ECG and experimental cardiological research. The practical part deals with manual classification of individual pathological events – these results will be presented in the database of EG records, which is under developing at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at BUT nowadays. Manual scoring of data was discussed with experts. After that, the presence of pathological events within particular experimental periods was described and influence of ischemia on heart electrical activity was reviewed. In the last part, morphological parameters calculated from EG beats were statistically analised with Kruskal-Wallis and Tukey-Kramer tests and also principal component analysis (PCA) and used as classification features to classify automatically four types of the beats. Classification was realized with four approaches such as discriminant function analysis, k-Nearest Neighbours, support vector machines, and naive Bayes classifier.

Curse or Blessing: natural resources and economic growth - comparison of the development of Botswana, Nigeria, Norway and Canada in early 21st century
Zubíková, Adéla ; Chytil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Zeman, Karel (referee)
This thesis seeks to verify the concept of so-called resource curse at the beginning of the new millennium. The theoretical part defines the symptoms of the alleged curse, curse transmission channels and criticism of the concept. Compared to other studies dealing with the theme of the resource curse this work is not focused on just one transmission channel. The practical part verifies several hypotheses established by comparing research papers on impacts of natural resources. The validity of the Prebisch-Singer hypothesis, Dutch disease symptoms and a negative impact on political institutions (inclination toward authoritarianism, high level of corruption, high government spending, low efficiency of economic and political decision-making and low investment in education) is verified. For the analysis have been selected two African countries (Nigeria and Botswana) and two advanced countries (Canada and Norway). The last part of this thesis provides policy implications. The results confirm the Prebisch-Singer hypothesis for selected commodities in the long term and some of the symptoms of Dutch disease at the beginning of the new millennium. Hypotheses regarding the impact on the political institutions have not been confirmed, since the results varied across the countries. The high vulnerability of the countries to movements in commodity prices was found.

Experience the czech population with age discrimination
VALENTOVÁ, Jindra
Abstract. At present ageism is a commencing problem which is necessary to deal with. Originally an English term has no Czech equivalent and it denotes discrimination or differentiation on the basis of age implying prejudices towards elderly people. It concerns statements and attitudes without true and reasonable basis. Some manifestations of discrimination are evident, some remain not pronounced in vertones. Ageism appears most often in the sphere of employment, where people are rejected for the reason of alleged decreasing performance and frequent sickness, according to prejudices connected with their more advanced age. The practical part of my thesis aims at a comparison of people over 50 and those who are still under this imaginary limit. By collecting primary data the following hypothesis was tested among others: it is more difficult for people over 50 to find work than for younger age categories. Respondents were chosen among job applicants of the Job Centre in Tábor. On the basis of a questionnaire and a secondary analysis of the data it was proved that 50+ applicants at the Job Centre in Tábor had to face age discrimination at an interview more often and also have more frequent experience with being dismissed due to their advanced age, which confirms the determined hypothesis. It is interesting that as people grow old they tend to think that after being 50 their work performance will decrease. Moreover, the research implies in general that people over 50 are a worse employable group than those of lower age categories. A feasible solution of this situation might be adjusting of stricter recourses for this kind of discrimination. In the Czech Republic this problem has been treated directly only under the rule of employment law which bans this kind of discrimination. A possible contribution might be an anti-discrimination law now being prepared. Promoting the effort to change social awareness concerning the qualities and abilities of older generation is also essential. Media should present a more positive image of elderly people; after all decreasing strength is compensated by great life experience, therefore this combination may not influence their general ability and performance.
