International trade of uranium and its impact on world politics
Štětkář, Matěj ; Černá, Iveta (advisor) ; Bolotov, Ilya (referee)
I have written my bachelors thesis on International trade of uranium and its impact on world politics. The main goal is to analyze the evolution of international trade of uranium together with its impact on world events. Statistical and non-statistical data I have mainly taken from the official website of World Nuclear Organization and from statistical outlines made by OECD and IAEA. Based on the research, I have analyzed the Supply and Demand on the international market of uranium together with stating the main areas of extraction. Uranium is due to its importance in the energy and military industry very important strategic raw material that had great significance in the field of international relations in the past. The international trade of uranium is naturally connected with regulatory restrictions that are enforced by international nuclear organizations. The view of this work is the analysis of the impact of uranium on the world events in the last 50 years together with the prediction of the evolution of the international trade of uranium into the future. Although uranium is becoming more and more important source of energy in the future, it is still a subject of many controversial discussions.
Economic Analysis of Investment in Nuclear Weapons
Martínková, Hana ; Chytilová, Helena (advisor) ; Slaný, Martin (referee)
Nuclear weapons are a rather marginal issue in economics as opposed to the political realm where it is an ever-present topic concerning global security. This thesis argues that economics can make a valuable contribution to the nuclear weapons debate in several ways and aims to present those in a comprehensive manner. First, a cost-benefit approach is employed to show that costs and benefits go beyond counting dollars directly spent on nuclear arsenals. Second, market investment in nuclear weapons producers is analysed with the help of SWOT analysis. It has been shown that the profitability of such an investment is closely tight to government decisions and ethical concerns must be taken into account as well. Finally, game theory, namely the ideas of Nobelist Thomas Schelling (1960), is being used to examine behaviour of states, the main actors connected to nuclear weapons. If the theory is true, nuclear weapons will serve as a deterrent and an equilibrium, or focal point, of non-use will prevail. Nevertheless, some assumptions and conditions are not being met in reality and the possibility of a non-equilibrium outcome, the use of a nuclear weapon either by accident or intent, remains.
Russian and US influence over Israeli-Iranian rivalry in the Middle East: How to deal with nuclear Iran?
Jedinák, Marek ; Voráček, Emil (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
Main aim of this master's thesis is to answer the following research question: How to deal with nuclear Iran? Author explores this vast topic through lens of a neorealist paradigm in order to analyze the impact of Russia's and US influence over Israeli-Iranian rivalry in the Middle East. Discourse analysis has been chosen as a methodological blueprint to examine strategic dimension of Israeli-Iranian relations with a special emphasis on its nuclear dimension. In addition, a comparison of both possible military and peaceful solutions of Iranian nuclear program is stressed. Main empirical data used are infamous Israeli air-strikes on nuclear reactors of its neighbors; Osirak and Al-Kibar. Deterrence theory, especially its conventional realm, provides a basis for an assessment of strategic balance between State of Israel an Islamic Republic of Iran, in case Iran emerges as a nuclear power.
Atomic weapon as an instrument of peace
Filip, David ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Soběhart, Radek (referee)
Regarding the existence of nuclear weapons, which were never used all over atomic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima as a tool of war against civilian or military targets during the Cold War, I try to give an explanation of "armed peace". I consider the question of why the two superpowers (the USA and the USSR) didn't start a "hot war" that would have been more likely nuclear. As an example of the most critical event will serve me Cuban Missile Crisis, with which can be the description of it understood in broader context. The paper points to the interrelations of opposing ideologies that related to atomic weapons have often drawn the same conclusions. I examine the military-strategic value of the atomic bombs which have shaped international relations troughtout the second half of the twentieth century. Besides the military aspects I also mention economic interpretation of the nuclear arms race and economic potential of the USSR and the USA. Why have in the first instance occured one-sided and than gradually overall disarment, reducing the number of nuclear warheads? I try to documented the explanation out of historical events also by using teoretical models.
Application of conflict theory on causes of the Cold War in context of present security situation in Europe and in the world
Jedinák, Marek ; Prorok, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lisa, Aleš (referee)
Fall of the Soviet Union and ideology of communism should have brought the Cold War to an end. Contemporary relationship between United States and Russia is starting to show the same traits like the rivalry of these superpowers in recent decades. Could this be considered as an evidence of a fact that Cold war has never ended because roots of this conflict has actually never been eradicated? This bachelor thesis analyses roots and triggers of the Cold War with focus on the conflict theory to interpret relation between heritage of the Cold War and present security situation in Europe and in the world.

In 1990's, the North Korean leaders opened the military nuclear program in order to avoid the collapsing trend which affected many totalitarian regimes at that time. Thanks to the specific geographical position, Inter-Korean dispute became a very important issue of foreign policy of many great powers such as United States of America, People's Republic of China, Japan, or Russian Federation. This nuclear program is generally considered as a tool of threatening in order to maintain the regime and secure the food and energy assistance. In this thesis, the North Korean threatening policy is applied to various concepts dealing with the deterrence theory introduced by many authors.

Nuclear weapons are from their first use near the end of World War II the topic of the unfailing debates in the world politics. Considering they are easily abusable they represent an important menace to the international security. The only possible solution is their complete elimination. However, nowadays we may think the nuclear disarmament could be finished a lot of barriers still exist and make it inlikely to be implemented. Perhaps the use of different new instruments in the international relations might once help to make the universal disarmament real.
