Atmospheric characteristics of white dwarfs
Krejčová, Kateřina ; Kawka, Adéla (advisor) ; Mayer, Pavel (referee)
We have analyzed the ultraviolet spectra of 40 hydrogen-rich (DA) white dwarfs. These spectra have been obtained with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) satellite and are publicly available via the MAST FUSE database. We derived the effective temperature and surface gravity by fitting the hydrogen Lyman spectral lines with model spectra. By applying white dwarf evolutionary models, we were able to determine the white dwarf mass, cooling age and absolute magnitude. These then allowed us to determine the distance to each star and its predicted gravitational redshift. We have identified several chemical elements in the white dwarf spectra. We determined the abundances of C, Si, P and S by measuring the equivalent widths of selected lines of these elements. Finally, we studied the spectra of J0623-376 and LM Com in more detail.
Computer Games as a New Media Phenomenon
Rylich, Jan ; Chýla, Roman (advisor) ; Šisler, Vít (referee)
Computer Games as a New Media Phenomenon Jan Rylich 1 1 [ T H E S I S ] Jan Rylich Abstract: This thesis is focused on the development of computer games and video games, evolution of gaming and game technologies and their impact on our society. In addition to an important historical context and practical and theoretical analysis of game genres and potential of games, key chapters of this thesis are devoted to the importance of games and their impact on various aspects of our lives, from economic and demographic factors to influence on our culture and contemporary art. This thesis also aims to introduce computer games and video games in the context of "neglected media" and the theory of "remediation".
Arnošt Lustig and experience of the Holocaust in light of theory of narration
Stiboříková, Zuzana ; Málek, Petr (advisor) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
Arnošt Lustig and experience of the Holocaust in light of theory of narration Abstract. Means of implementation Nazi program of exterminating the Jews, which was designed and implemented during the Second World War, had an instrument of realization in a concentration camp, where prisoners not only of died, but there was organized devaluation of their lives. We talk about it as a "model form of government", reasonably elaborate system, in which prisoners should believe, that their life has no meaning, and on the other hand they are exposed to "limit situations", that create pressure on their survival instinct, and thus affect their behavior. From world of ever-present death prisoners brought experience, about which many could not and others needed to talk. However, they meet with an inability to express this experience. There grow up a debate whether the facts are trivializing. The threat of trivializing is seen also in artistic representation. As one of the options for capture the experience of the Holocaust is mentioned concentration on the internal experience of the individual, which can by displayed mainly by art literature, whch is looking for new expressive and formal means to "communicate an incommunicable" trauma. Among the writers of literature, who comes from their own camp experiences is ranked...
Games and Game Activities in Teaching French Language
Rubnerová, Jana ; Klinka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nováková, Sylva (referee)
This thesis deals with method of activation of didactic games and its application into the teaching process. It's focused on the theoretical description and also on the practical use in the teaching of the French language. This method is introduced as one of the ways how to practice language in funny form, but also to gain new knowledge and language skills. We will describe its major aspects and also its place in the curriculum documents as well. We will emphasize its benefits, but also the possible difficulties in its application into the teaching of foreign language. We will mention the process of the game and the atmosphere appropriate to it's use too. In the practical part we will focus on the activities which are suitable for level A0 to A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
High precision differential thermometer
Sieklik, Ivan ; Wilfert, Otakar (referee) ; Barcík, Peter (advisor)
This work describes the principles of measurements of refractive-index structural parameter. This parameter represent intensity of atmospheric turbulence which is measured by a differential temperature meter. Basic properties of atmospheric transmission environment are specified and their influence on optical wave is stated. Furthermore, this thesis also describes fundamental types of sensors dedicated to temperature measurements. The aim of this work was to create a differential temperature meter which is able to measure the refractive-index structural parameter.
The study of ocean energy use
Ficek, Jan ; Foral, Štěpán (referee) ; Radil, Lukáš (advisor)
The present thesis is focused on the study of the energy potential of the seas and oceans, and research of the current state of the use of this energy transformation into electrical energy.
Ionic fields of various kinds and method of measurement.
Gubani, Ondřej ; Vaněk, Jiří (referee) ; Vognar, Jiří (advisor)
In the air there are positively and negatively charged ions with different mobility and size. The therapeutic effect of negative ions with high mobility is known. High concentration of negative ions occurs in speleotherapic caves. This bachelor thesis introduces the methods of measuring the concentration and mobility of various kinds of ions and their evaluation by spectral characteristics. It verifies the current mirror effect on the ions´ concentration in space. It also examines the effect of different types of ions in living organisms and an appropriate area treatment for the occurrence of negative ions.
Effect of volcanic ash to Air Transport
Soukop, Robin ; Šplíchal, Miroslav (referee) ; Chlebek, Jiří (advisor)
This master's thesis deals with the issue of volcanic ash as a complex and its impact on aviation, including the volcanic activity itself (conditions for its existence, for existence of eruptions and their basic products). In addition, the thesis also deals with effect of volcanic ash on aircraft and airports, possibilities of its detection or monitoring as well as mechanism of its spreading in airspace. The emphasis is laid mainly on air incidents related to volcanic ash and on danger it poses to the airspace of the Czech Republic.
