Relating to another person in the ethics of E. Levinas
VOLFOVÁ, Adéla
The thesis is theoretically arranged and comprises two main chapters. It deals with an ethical concept of the relationship towards the Other person that is represented by a French philosopher of 20th century Emmanuel Levinas. The relationship between the Self and the Other is developed, in which the other person is always the primordial centre of my interest. The primary feature of Levinas´ ethics is to show it like the first philosophy. It is particular for him to understand metaphysics in a purely ethical concept. At Levinas, there is an event of a turn in ethics, when the current ontology, which is focused on a theoretical knowledge, is substituted by metaphysics. Morality is acknowledged as an essence of ethical relationship with the other person. This interpersonal relationship is always an asymmetric relationship and fundamentally ethical. Levinas´ ethics is the ethics of responsibility for the Other, in which is possible to approach the Other. The ethics deals with a concept of transcendence, Infinity, exteriority and interiority.

Education, dialogue and totalitarianism in philosophical reflection
Dobiáš, Ondřej ; Pelcová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee)
The purpose of the diploma thesis is to interpret the philosophical concepts of the education, dialogue and totality against the backdrop of the potential contemporary educational crisis. The thesis demonstrates the contributions of philosophy in characterisation of education. The topics were inspired by the question whether the formal education can develop the authentic thinking of an individual. The author aims to expose the original and justifiable assumptions of education and demonstrate the potential consequences of education perceived solely as a matter of formation and integration into pre-set social structures and mechanisms. The thesis exposes the very essence of education as the fundamental capability of entering dialogue and points out its need for a free yet responsible self-determination of a post-modern individual whose inherent ability to surpass own assumptions prevents the society from the rise of the totalitarian thinking. Key words Education, pedagogy, crisis, philosophy, ethics, dialogue, totality, world, science, technology, authenticity, transcendence, object, freedom, spontaneity, will, thinking
Robots of the present and the future
Impact of Emerson's Transcendentalism on the Development of the New Age Movement . An Inquiry into Parallels as a Way to Determine the Influence
Rabochová, Pavlína ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Grmela, Josef (referee)
This thesis provides details about historical background of American Transcendentalism, a theological, philosophical and literary tradition of the first half of the nineteenth century in United States and of New Age religion originating roughly at the turn of the same century and maturing in the 1970's in a form of the New Age movement. The work focuses on the influence of American Transcendentalism as one of the shaping factors, which contributed to the emergence of New Age. The attention is placed primarily on the work of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Through a detailed analysis of selected Emerson's essays parallels are drawn between the beliefs held by the Transcendentalists, mainly Emerson, and general beliefs shared with the New Age community. Following the historical development of both traditions, we discover the point of convergence, namely the New Thought movement originating in the second half of the nineteenth century.
History of PI
Bernátová, Eliška ; Kvasz, Ladislav (advisor) ; Pilous, Derek (referee)
My bachelor thesis "History of " aims to inform about the development of this constant. I tried to proceed chronologically from the beginnings in ancient Egypt through ancient Greece, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance to the Modern Era and the computer's world. In the chapters "The Mysterious Middle Ages" and " the Hunting of the Precise Numbers" are focused mainly on the most important personalities of the time. Of course, the problem of was dealt with a countless number of mathematicians, but to mention each any of them would take a lot of time and the thesis would have hundreds of pages. After due consideration I selected the most interesting personalities, those whose contribution to the development of deserved it most. In the next chapter, "Irrationality and Transcendence" I primarily focused on mathematical theorems and their proofs. This chapter is the most important in my opinion. Many circumstances related to the number are resolved there in. In the final chapter, which I called " in the Computer World" I mention only the most important computers until 1967 because of the very rapid development of technology after wards.

Searching for the meaning of beauty in relation to truth and freedom on the grounds of art and pedagogy
Klimešová, Petra ; Hůla, Zdenek (advisor) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee) ; Prázný, Aleš (referee)
In the research called Searching for the meaning of beauty in relation to truth and freedom on the grounds of art and pedagogy, I deal with the topic of how beauty is perceived in art education and contemporary art. Specifically, I focus on the question of what is the experience of artists and educators with the perception of beauty? At the same time, I study Hegel's Aesthetics, in which Hegel describes art and beauty as a tool through which we discover / uncover ourselves and approach the absolute spirit. This uncovering or unhiddeness is also a term for truth (alétheia), which is a key element of Jan Patočka's and Anna Hogen's philosophy. In his philosophical work, Patočka and subsequently Hogen strive to return to her original source through self-knowledge (gnothi seauton), and by this idea all work is inspired as a search for meaning. The work is divided into three areas. The first part deals with the theoretical introduction to the whole research issue. The concept of beauty itself, the problem of objectivity and subjectivity of knowledge, the aesthetic basis of contemporary art and also Hegel's concept of aesthetics and the issue of perception. The second part reflects the statements of individual respondents. In response to the testimony, ten areas were created that relate in some way to...
The concept of existence by Karl Jaspers
Šulcová, Irena ; Zika, Richard (advisor) ; Marek, Jakub (referee)
EN: Jaspers came to philosophy from medicine and psychology. Unique personal situation, authentic life experience, unrepeatable faithful self-respect turned psychopathologist Jaspers from psychiatric physiology of soul to the thesis of ciphers of transcendence, borderline, edge and horizon. He constituted his own pattern of the thinker not only as an explaining teacher, but also as co-creator of original ethics, based on deep comprehension of the other, importance of encompassing communication between man and man. First section of my work deals with the concept of Border. Our attitudes and picture of the universe and its evaluation are limited by borders. The holistic complex being remains behind the horizon The second part is dedicated to border-line situation as an phenomenon of possibility, as seen from the point of view of Jaspers own existence, as presented in his Philosophy, including commentary based on new translations by Vaclav Nemec Closing part deals with existential communication and holistic transition from possible to new horizons of transcendence. My interpretation of chosen excerpts comes mostly from "Allgemeine Psychopathologie" "Psychologie der Weltanschauungen." Quotations appear in my own translation. KEY WORDS: Prophetic philosophy, philosophy as treatment of world opinion,...
The temporality of the Romantics. Notes on the conception and figuration of time
Hrbata, Zdeněk
The intensive awareness or experience of time is one of the central topics of 19th century literature, particularly among authors considered Romantic. By way of several examples we focus on the poetry of these individuals (e.g. A. de Lamartine, V. Hugo and J. Vrchlický), whose work attempts to confront the irreversible course of time (the ancient, Virgilian subject: „fugit irreparabile tempus“, also dealt with by e.g. Petrarch and Pierre de Ronsard) by invoking and resurrecting the past, conserving and immortalizing the past, and with memories. For example, this penetrates the present of the subject and is involved in the creation of the continuum, when the passage of time, which in the Romantic conception of art is to be resisted by creation itself, does not necessarily entail disappearance and loss. In contrast to this we have Baudelaire's figures and the figure of time as the universal evil, the destructive enemy of the people provoking constant anxiety, the destroyer who cannot be eliminated, but who can, at least temporarily, be resisted by various forms of escape.
