The role of the book in evolution of the children's imagination

The master thesis deals with the importance of the book in evolution of the children's imagination. The first part includes short introduction to problems of children's imagination. The second part is engaged in ontogeny of child from prenatal period to the middle childhood and in progress of key competences. It analyzes selected psychological approaches, which had the imagination as a subject of the research. The thesis explains and defines basic terms and processes of the imagination. It deals with a specific phenomenon of the children's imagination and with the evolution of the imagination. The third part introduces typical children's literature, directs on the traditional fairytale and it specifies problems of the literary characters too. It describes the historical development of the Czech book illustration, importance of the illustration in books for children and it also describes children's drawings. The fourth part applies all of previous pieces of knowledges into the work experience in kindergarten. It also describes relations between child and school or child and book. The final part of the master thesis includes summary of the information. [Author's abstract].

Books as a medium and their role in contemporary world - paper or screen?

The purpose of this work is to analyze the newly grown phenomenon of electronic books and electronic publishing, to map consequences of e-books in relation to paper books and to describe its pros and cons. Also, this work tries to compare ebook readers presently available on Czech market, and to make a comparison of most frequently used e-book formats. The future of e-books in the Czech Republic can be inestimable, but this work gives the opinions of some Czech publishers, booksellers and authors, trying to suggest how the future may look like.

Books potential as resource of cognitive cultural capital: effects on educational attainment and socioeconomic status

The thesis The potential of books as a source of cognitive cultural capital: the impact on educational attainment and socioeconomic status deals with the socio-cultural phenomenon of reading that is understand as a cognitive skill whether is closely linked to the child's basic needs and habits of operating and learning. The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism of cultural activities (such as a specific type of cultural capital) that is shaped by family and school and forms the individual abilities of human beings. From this perspective it is determinate prerequisite for success in life. The theoretical part describes the life stages of reading with a clearly defined reading's habits and built up the relationship between child and book. Afterwards this part of thesis outlines the concept of cognitive cultural capital and summarizes the importance of external determinants for emergence and development of interest in reading. The empirical part of study uses data from sociological research Distinction and Values 2008 (SOÚ AV ČR, v.v.i.) that presents the structure of reading climate (the availability of books and imitation of parents' reading habits, interaction with parents and fading in childhood). Authorship Identification

This bachelor's thesis deals with authorship identification based on knowledge of author's previous texts. The aim is to analyze existing methods of authorship attribution and create a system, which is capable of highly successful authorship identification. The system is based on a multivariate analysis and specializes at English books. Part of the solution is also a graphic user interface.

The aim of this work is to describe design, implementation and maintenance of an electronic book database. The presented work describes reasons for development of such system, technologies used to develop the application and function and user interface of system components. Following sections are focused on deployment, problems related to maintenance in production environment and experience gained from functioning of this application.

Business Plan Proposal

Diploma thesis is interested in the business plan of the development of the company of Martin Stříž, who focuses on the publishing of books and other press products. On the basis of the survey of contemporary status and identification of the objective, which is to be achieved, are proposed ways leading to such identified objective. After selecting of optimal options, the financial status and level of demand are evaluated subsequently, and time schedule of individual investments is presented. Finally, potential problems, which can occur after the implementation of the investment are identified, together with linked tasks, which must be further fulfilled (monitoring of development, inspection etc.).

This master’s thesis is concerned with the creation of a proposal of internet bookshop. It consists of theoretical findings of internet shopping, analysis of present situation as well as trends in the book area. The goal of my diploma thesis is to project a model of internet shop including necessary changes in company's structure and finally the economical summary of the project.

System for Bibliography Database Management on the Internet

The aim of this master´s thesis was to create a web interface for working with bibliographic quotations. This whole project was created to easy writing bibliographic quotations in author´s piece. The system allows inserting, searching and managing bibliographic quotations. These quotations can also be exported into four types of files : RTF, XML, HTML, a database bib file. The czech norms CSN ISO 690-1 and also CSN ISO 690-2 are fully supported. Whole the system is based on language like PHP which is used for developing dynamic web pages. The system contains graphical user interface, which is simple to use. The web interface is fully functional and it is ready for using by autors of scientific publications or students in schools.
