Mystic ascent in the Ma'aseh merkavah text

Mystický výstup v textu Ma'ase merkava - anotace Tato práce se zabývá pozdně starověkým židovským mystickým textem Ma'ase merkava. Zaměřuje se na tu část textu, která se zabývá mystickým výstupem sedmi nebeskými paláci. V úvodní kapitole se snažím zasadit text Ma'ase merkava do širšího kontextu hejchalotické literatury. Druhá kapitola shrnuje dosavadní bádání týkající se textu Ma'ase merkava. Popisuji zde různé rukopisné verze a dosavadní vydání textu. Dále uvádím a hodnotím odborné práce, věnující se tomuto textu. Třetí kapitola představuje vlastní překlad části textu zabývající se mystickým výstupem podle hebrejského originálu ve zvolené rukopisné verzi (Oxford 1531). Jádro práce představuje čtvrtá kapitola, kde text analyzuji. První část analýzy je věnována funkci a charakteru textu. Uvádím názory různých badatelů na funkci textu a zdůvodňuji svůj názor, že se původně jednalo o krátké záznamy z mystických cest. Poté, co byly tyto krátké záznamy sestaveny do většího textového celku, nabyl text sekundárně také charakter instruktážní příručky. Ve druhé části analýzy zkoumám jednotlivé prvky textu, jako je popis sedmi paláců a sedmi nebes, popis Božích vlastností, Boží jména nebo tzv. nesmyslná slova v textu. The spirit in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit: Antigone and Rameau's nephew in dialectical conflict

The work seeks to gain an understanding of the concept of spirit in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit. The objective will be met by means of Hegel's interpretation of Sophocles' Antigone and Diderot's Rameau's Nephew. In its most immediate form the spirit appears as an organically structured whole which Hegel identifies with the Greek ethical substance. Superficially this substance is conceived as a harmonious organism; in reality - as Antigone's and Creon's paradigmatic conflict shows - it is beset by inner conflicts. The once unitary and organically structured spirit decomposes into individual forms of consciousness during the Roman period and develops in further course into a subject freed from anything substantial. It is in this course of the spirit evolving into a subject that Hegel presents his interpretation of Rameau's Nephew. Rameau represents the self-negating and self-destructive spirit, who has completely identified with Antigone's and Creon's revolt and has lost the capability of accepting anything not issuing from his consciousness. Ancient Gods in Today's Advertising

This bachelor thesis deals with ancient mythology influence on advertising specifically with usage of remarkable characters' names in titles of companies and products. It compares information gathered from internet domains, portals and companies' representation with literature specialised in ancient Greco-Roman mythology. Names of the gods and heroes are more frequently used with inner context in their Greek form rather than in Roman form and they are often written with no punctuation. Very common is usage of acronyms which bear resemblance to specific names, however, without any closer relation to the given mythological theme. Most comapny titles really have relatively traceable relation to the ancient myths, which is described in this work. Many of those companies have chosen their names because of the euphonious effect they possess. The research brought to light many appropriately used names related to various fields of business that have not been thoroughly exploited before, eg. name of Hercules. Also, findings unknown to the authors were made revealing eg. relation between Diana and nuts etc. Although it was not possible to embrace presence of all the names in mentioned titles, this work provides adequate insight into the matter of ancient Greco-Roman culture and its topicality as it is related...

Necropoleis on the Vatican Hill. The decoration analysis and its paralels Roman art.

The topic of the Diploma thesis is "Necropoleis on the Vatican Hill. The decoration analysis and its parallels in Roman art." The diploma thesis is divided into several parts that are particularly analysed. The first part is focused on the Vatican area layout in ancient world and both ancient and contemporary area layouts are compared. The second part is focused on the analysis of mausoleums along Via Cornelia and their decoration. The thesis tries to find some parallels with the mausoleums in the roman art which proclaim the use of these iconographical materials in other settings and historical backgrounds. The next part describes the necropolis along Via Triumphalis and the most important tombs within the specific sectors. The individual subchapters deal with selected motifs, which meanings intersect the pagan and Christian world. The following part analyzes selected sarcophagi and their decorative motifs. Consequently, both observed contexts are compared. The last part of the thesis provides the dating of several lamps from necropolis along Via Triumphalis. The Cross in Changing of Times and its Significance in Ancient Society

The Cross in Changing of Times and its Significance in Ancient Society The cross is the most widespread symbol appearing worldwide right from the prehistoric times. Though being formed of a very simple shape of two intersecting lines the significance is far reaching. This dissertation looks at the cross both as a sign pointing beyond itself and concentrates on the diversity of its visual appearance. It tries to trace back the possible factors preceding Antiquity influencing the formation of the actual shape in that particular period of history. Although for most part the cross is understood in its connection with the Crucifixion of Christ its history is far more complex beginning in pre-Christian era. The biblical texts present more or less mere allusions of the cross itself. Seen typologically the cross may be understood as the element connecting both Old and New Testament creating a sort of a bridge between them. The careful analysis of the Early Christian documents brings several terms used for the same reality. The most significant are - σταυρός with the Latin equivalent crux and ξύλου (wood) with the Latin equivalent lignum. Later on these give a way to a more general term of σημεῖον (sign) and finally to a symbolic expression "σύμβολον σωτηρίας" (sign-symbol of salvation). The early Christian writers...

Figure and the Possibilities of its Dimensions

Tereza Hrabánková, University of South Bohemia, Faculty of Education, Department of Art, thesis Figura and possibilities of its dimension, supervisor Dr.Dominika Sládková. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical section considers the display of human figures in the visual arts during the Middle Ages, explores the most important figurative artists engaged in creation and their works and provides information about the dimension figures in terms of its size and proportional relationships. The theoretical part also deals with the history of videoart in Bohemia and videoart with a focus on animated movie. Also briefly describes the history of art and the method of displaying the human figure in children. The practical part deals with the history of art education in the Czech scene, with a focus on animation. The final work consists of a series of drawings and paintings, from which then created a short animated film, which will aim to familiarize students with basic art schools proportional patterns of human figures.

Antiquity in the Inscriptive Culture of the Czech Lands

Author informs of the database that will contain inscriptions from the Czech lands that have something to do with antiquity. The aim of this longterm project is to gradually document and analyse the heritage of antiquity in the epigraphic culture of the Czech Lands from the first inscriptive documents to the present, regardless of whether or not the heritage is conscious or unconscious. The outcome of the entire project will be studies on 'Nachleben / the second life' of the ancient world in inscriptions in the Czech Lands, i.e. an area to which insufficient attention has been paid so far. Only in this phase of the project will the ways that antiquity had been getting into Czech inscriptions be studied. This second life of antiquity in our country will be confronted with the heritage of antiquity in the epigraphic culture of other Central European countries.

The anitc motiffs in the epic works of J. Vrchlický.

The main aim of the following bachelor thesis is an interpretation of the antique motives in the chosen epic collections by Jaroslav Vrchlický. The goals are to observe the frequency in which these motives appear in each of these collections via a comparison of the differences in their utility and a determination of their place in the structure of the unit. The largest part of the thesis is devoted to the actual analysis of the antique motives from a content and formal point of view. Emphasis is put on the manner of the composition of the individual motives, their inclusion in the context of the works and the choice of language means.

Slavery in Ancient Israel

The work deals with the system of slavery in ancient Israel. The first part describes the history of this country and development of its society including specific categories of slaves that used to be part of it. It deals with the houshold slaves in the possession of their owners, as well as slaves-for-debts. In connection with a debt slavery the thesis also elaborates on the Old Testament Israel loan system. The next part concerns a detailed analysis of various regulations for treating slaves, which are divided according to the particular books of the Old Testament where they can be found. The results are then summarized in the conclusion.

Personification of Wisdom in the Old Testament

The thesis deals with the figure of Lady Wisdom in the Old Testament in the wisdom books of Job, Proverbs, Wisdom and Sirach. The opening part specifies the selected biblical texts of the Old Testament, the concept of wisdom in antiquity from Egyptian and Mesopotamian sources, and their possible inspiration for authors of wise scriptures. Next the thesis briefly introduces the chosen biblical texts and analyses the concept of wisdom in the each of them. To illustrate the nature and conduct of Wisdom the next part describes the importace of building a house for the ancient people. As an opposite to Lady Wisdom there is Lady Foolishness. Final part describes various forms of personified Wisdom in particular biblical books explaining her transformation within the course of Old Testament history.
