Detainment Ethics, Why Europe and the US Disagree on Torture as an Interrogation Method
Craig, Damon ; Calda, Miloš (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
Protecting the human rights of prisoners has become an issue of paramount interest over the last several years, and rightfully so. In the wake of political and cultural upheaval throughout the Balkan States, and with the current trend towards fighting terrorism, prisoners, and the information they possess, have become increasingly important. Just as important as obtaining this crucial information, however, is ensuring that means of interrogation do not evolve into greater injustices than the crimes themselves. Historically, international bodies have been established and reformed following periods of severe human rights atrocities. Genocide and ethnic cleansing, for example, have served as such incidents severe enough to raise international action. Through their broad definitions and policies, these international mechanisms set forth to protect human rights on a global level, but only thought regional cooperation can this tremendous goal ever be achieved. It will be the purpose of this research to examine, in detail, international cooperation from two of the world's most major regional players, Europe and the United States. Because these two regional powers share so many similarities, including, among many others, common cultural roots, comparable economic function, and similar legal systems, one would...

Jovičić, Elena ; Sato, Alexej (advisor) ; Štěrbová, Ludmila (referee) ; Čajka, Peter (referee)
The necessity for a more adequate regulation of global trade relations (including support for the liberalization and development of international trade), in the context of the deepening globalization processes, requires a greater level of involvement of international economic organizations and more effective implementation of their activities. The primary purpose of the dissertation is to determine whether and how the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group have influenced the development of international trading system. The results of this thesis show that international organizations (primarily WTO and UNCTAD) during various stages of its development have been significantly affecting international trade growth mainly through the implementation of specific activities and measures related to a series of agreements and decisions. However, international organizations have had a divergent impact on international trade. The effectiveness of the implementation of specific activities and programs were depending on the political and economic situation of member countries, as well as the governments´ readiness and willingness to implement these measures. On the other hand, the effectiveness of realization of specific activities have been affected by either the internal weaknesses of the organizations, or the insufficient level of cooperation and coordination in the implementation of joint programs and measures aimed at international trade development.

Influence ot the Income from Oil Industry on the Economies of United Arab Emirates and Algeria in the years 2000 - 2015
Weiss, Tomáš ; Pikhart, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Pekárek, Štěpán (referee)
The thesis is concerned with the influence of the income from oil industry on the economies of Algeria and the United Arab Emirates in the years 2000-2015. The topic is analysed from the point of view of the resource curse theory. This theory is defined as a negative relationship between excess of a non-renewable resource and economic performance. Alongside with the negative economic growth, the experts defined other factors linked to the resource curse. The method used in the thesis is an analysis of these indicators on the example of Algeria and the UAE, and subsequently the dangers of resource curse are identified. The thesis evaluates, based on the comparison of the performance of selected factors, the economical and institutional development of the chosen countries. In the conclusion the diversification efforts of the UAE in the economic field and relatively safe economic development of Algeria are commented. More or less positive tendencies may be observed also in the development of most of the institutional indicators of both countries.
