Protists in oral cavity of humans and animals.
Brixí, Kateřina ; Tachezy, Jan (advisor) ; Rada, Petr (referee)
Trichomonas tenax, Trichomonas gallinae, Trichomonas gypaetinii, Trichomonas stableri, Trichomonas equibuccalis, Trichomonas brixi, Tetratrichomonas canistomae, Tetratrichomonas felistomae and Tetratrichomonas empyemagena are unicellular eukaryotes (protists) that may occur in oral cavity of humans and domestic animals. These protozoans are mostly referred as commensals and relatively low attention is paid to them, since they usually are not primary cause of serious health problems. However, based on current knowledge, it can be concluded that more appropriate term for Entamoeba gingivalis and Trichomonas tenax would be an opportunistic pathogen, while Trichomonas gallinae is a primary pathogen. There are very little studies and findings about the rest of oral protozoans and their pathogenicity, therefore it is not possible to assess their significance for a host. Nevertheless, the oral protozoans should not be neglected, as in some cases they can cause serious health complications in their host.

Effects of human demonstrator on horse's performance in a spatial task: Does social learning occur?
Pokorná, Miroslava ; Bartošová, Jitka (advisor) ; Fuchs, Roman (referee)
Social observational learning is one of learning abilities expected in domestic horses (Equus caballus) because of their ecological and evolutional history. However, a few studies focused on this type of learning in horses failed to provide clear evidence of observational learning and/or could not distinguished it from other types of learning. We tested interspecific observational learning abilities using the spatial task and a human demonstrator. We hypothesised that 1) horses with possibility of observing a human demonstrator will complete the task in shorter time than control horses without any demonstrator, and 2) horses observing a familiar demonstrator will carry out the task in shorter time than horses with an unfamiliar demonstrator due to established positive human - horse relationship. Twenty - four riding horses of mixed age and breed were randomly allocated to three groups per 8 and started the task either with observing a familiar demonstrator, unfamiliar demonstrator or no demonstrator (control group). Each horse was released individually at the starting point in the experimental paddock and the latency to pass the task was recorded. A horse completed the task once it walked 25 m from the starting point to the squared area (4x4 m) fenced by a tape, went into it through the entrance on the...

Horse in Czech Phraseology, Proverbs and Fairy Tales. Contribution to the Linguistic Picture of the World
Kovařík, Tadeáš ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Lehečková, Eva (referee)
The focus of this bachelor thesis is the image of the horse in the Czech phraseology, proverbs and fairytales of Karel Jaromír Erben. The material processing has been based on cognitive linguistics and linguistic worldview theory and their methodological tools. First, the theoretical-methodological scope is explained with the focus on cognitive approach to language and linguistic worldview. Using these methods, the language and culture image of the horse in Czech environmentis processed, as presented by dictionaries. The etymology and history of the expression are examined; the meanings are defined using monolingual dictionaries, followed by the list of the most common synonyms, hyponyms and co hyponyms (hřebec, kobyla/klisna, hříbě etc.) On the grounds of phraseology, idiomology and paremiology as well as figurative usage, neologisms, derivations and compositions, the stereotype of the horse in Czech linguistic worldview is described. This is followed by the image of the horse in Erben's České pohádky. At the end of the thesis an open definition of the expression horse is given.
