The "Death penalty as a response to the growing brutality of criminal offenses" diploma thesis discusses the increasing trend of the violent and brutal criminality and the resolution possibilities of the situation. As the main goal of this thesis, the author deals with the idea whether returning the death penalty back into our justice system would be the right response to the increasing degree of brutality of violent criminals. In the theoretical part, the term "death penalty" is explained in general, as well as its history and use. Next the thesis acquaints us with the use of the death penalty on our territory in the past and its legislative question in our history. Structure and development of criminality in the Czech Republic - abstract (Key words: criminality, structure, development) This master's thesis deals with the structure and development of crime in the Czech Republic with an emphasis on the description of the current state of criminality and its distribution around the country. The main goal of this thesis is to map and describe the structure of criminality in the Czech Republic and its development in the last 20 years with the use of statistical data from the Czech Police and yearbooks of The Institute of Criminology and Social Prevention, a Czech research organization. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the concept of criminality and the basic criminology terms, which are used to describe and research criminality, such as quantitative and qualitative indicators of criminality used to gain information about the current condition of criminality. References to the sources of criminality information are also an inseparable part of the first part of this thesis. Media representation of Jiri Kajinek from 1993 until present day
Charvátová, Anna ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to show how the image of Jiří Kajínek in the media changed over time, from the time he was first identified as a suspect in a double murder in November 1993 until the spring of 2017 when President Miloš Zeman pardoned him. The work also follows a period of one year after the granting of a pardon in order to capture changes in the presentation of Jiří Kajínek in the media. This thesis should also respond to the question of whether Jiří Kajínek was presented by the media as a celebrity after his release. To determine how the media informed about Jiří Kajínek, a quantitative analysis was used, the last period, ie the period of one year after Jiří Kajínek's release from prison, was further analyzed by qualitative method, specifically the framing method. I analyzed texts from three daily newspapers, Právo, Mladá fronta DNES and Blesk. Among other things this research showed that in the course of the change in Jiří Kajínek's presentation, instead of interpreting his persona as a murderer and recidivist with two examined newspapers - Mladá fronta DNES and Blesk - there were discovered other interpretations, such as interpretation as victim or as a celebrity. In the newspaper Právo the interpretations did not change so significantly. Jiří Kajínek's interpretation as a...
Liber testium als a source of information for details about the people's life in the royal town Louny at the turn of the 16. and 17. century.
Paterová, Petra ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
This thesis concerns the Strakonice league, an association of largely Catholic estates of 1449. It tries to conceive the topic in another way, than the older literature did, which did not pay attention to the Strakonice league not specially, but dealed with it mostly in the frame of the description of Bohemian political and military history. The thesis tries to bring new pieces of knowledge of the Strakonice league by means of analyse of correspondence of the lords of Rosenberg (Rožmberk) and of another sources. Concerning the course of the military and diplomatic struggle with the Poděbrady league itself, the emphasis is put on selected, less known aspects. League's attempts to cooperate with the lands adjoining the Czech crown are included, too. The relation of the Strakonice league to foreign countries, where the league was looking for allies, is elaborated in the next section. The last part of the thesis is a prosopographical research of the league members. This section is based on collecting of data about individual persons or towns that entered the Strakonice league. The members' political career, motivation for their entrance into the league, possesion and their relations to each other are studied. All this gives evidence about the rate of force and compactness of the league and it can...
A History of Criminal Law in the Czech Lands in 1848-1989
Jablonický, Tomáš ; Kuklík, Jan (referee)
1 Summary Dissertation builds an objective, transparent, systematic and yet concise interpretation of the history of criminal law in the Czech lands in 1848-1989. The aim of this work is, however, not only to chronologically present the most important criminal codes, but also to tell a parallel story of criminal law science and criminology, which to a bigger or lesser degree substantially influenced the development of criminal law and criminal legislation. Therefore, this work also includes biographical and bibliographical profiles of leading Czech educators, criminal law scientists and criminologists - the founders and pioneers of Czech and Czechoslovak criminal law science, whose lives have been closely linked with the complicated socio-political events of the given historical period. History of criminal law shows a strong interconnection of criminal law and policy, which consequently causes the criminal law without proper criminal law science and criminology to be the most politically affected branch of law. For this dissertation is symptomatic the search for critical causes and factors that lead to progress or, on the contrary, to the decline of criminal law. In such moments, the criminal law science and criminology emerge again, naturally and clearly, from a scientific analysis of historical events of...
Criminality Analysis in the Czech Republic using Self-Organizing Maps
Mikulíková, Pavla ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Palanská, Tereza (referee)
Crime represents one of the most persistent social problems all around the world. To understand the motivation for criminal behaviour, a thorough analysis of its plausible determinants is necessary. This bachelor thesis aims at exploring whether the method of self-organizing maps, a data mining tool, can help in the investigation of the Czech criminal phenomena. To date, no academic study has tried to uncover potential pat- terns in the Czech crime data employing this type of artificial neural network. It is a visualisation method which maps observations based on their multi-dimensional features into a two-dimensional grid, and at the same time, the similarity between observations is preserved by locating similar observations close to each other. For the analysis, the dataset consisting of 75 Czech districts and 18 variables was used. However, the optimal choice of parameters of the model can be seen as a possible limitation of this method. The final outcome of the model consists of six clusters of districts with various levels of crime rates and other characteristics. Our results showed that self-organizing maps can provide an interesting insight into the crime problem, and social sciences can benefit from its application in many research areas. 1

The main source of information for this thesis are the statistics of Police of the Czech Republic. Socially Pathological Phenomena Occuring in Exkluded Localities
VONDRÁKOVÁ, Petra
This bachelor thesis discusses socially pathological phenomena that occur in excluded localities in the town of Slaný and its environs. There are serious social problems in socially excluded localities. For these localities, a higher occurrence of socially pathological phenomena is typical. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis discusses socially excluded localities in Slaný and its environs, at present, there are six such localities. This thesis also describes the bad living conditions of people who live in these places. My opinion is that other citizens of the town of Slaný have no idea how people in these localities live. This thesis aims to raise awareness not only among the citizens of Slaný. The thesis further focuses on the difference between social pathology and deviation, it explains the terminology of social exclusion and a socially excluded locality. It also discusses drug abuse, criminality, aggression, and gambling. These are serious social problems that occur in today's society. The thesis also talks about the cause of the above mentioned pathological phenomena. The aim of this thesis is to chart the socially pathological phenomena that are located in excluded localities. Two research questions were chosen: Vo1: How does the unemployment of the socially excluded locality citizens influence the occurrence of socially pathologically phenomena? Vo2: What is the influence of the education of the socially excluded locality citizens on the occurrence of socially pathologically phenomena? For the practical part of this thesis, a quantitative method was used. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument with inhabitants of the above socially excluded locality as respondents. The data which were obtained were processed using descriptive statistics in MS Excel and hypothesis testing took place in the program SPSS, using t-test and chí-kvadrát test. The questions in the questionnaire survey were elected the way that they could tell which socially pathologically phenomena occur in the excluded locality of Slaný and its environs. In my research, fourteen hypotheses were dealt with. Some hypotheses assumed that the occurrence of socially pathologically phenomena is influenced by the unemployment of socially excluded locality inhabitants. The next hypotheses assumed that the education of the inhabitants of socially excluded localities influences the occurrence of socially pathological phenomena. Research results showed that the unemployment in this area is influenced by alcohol and drug abuse as well as smoking and the occurrence of execution in these localities. It also proved that education is also influenced by alcohol and drug abuse together with smoking and the occurrence of execution. According to this research unemployment and education have no influence on gambling and criminal record.
