The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part I described the theory, which is essential for understanding the topic. Here I looked into the history and theory of total institutions, prisons and imprisonment. I also put and emphasis on gender, theories of social and media construction of reality and gendered media content. In the second, methodological part I characterized the analysis sample and the research method. I also defined thematic categories, research questions and objectives of the research. The research is based on the ethnographic research of Kateřina Nedbálková. With the help of her analysis I defined the analytical categories, into which I divided the research. I analyzed selected data and from those I deduced relevant conclusions, I answered my research questions and evaluated the given objectives.

Imríšková, Romana ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
Literature about prisons is dealing with issues concerning prison officers very rarely, since attention is usually paid to inmates. Therefore, this work is addressing prison officers and their perception of inmates. By means of semi-standardized interviews, key sources and kinds of information were discovered. These aspects are crucial for prison officers to develop their attitude about inmates with focus on category of guilt. Prison officer's approach and inmate's approach arose as dynamic categories changing according to the certain circumstances, which are described in individual subchapters in more detail, and also according to time. Differences were noticed not only among prisons, but also among positions of uniformed staff (escorts, wardens and guards). Since this issue is overlooked, but essential for gaining awareness, understanding and improving situation in prisons, it is crucial to do more researches on it.

Schmidtová, Zuzana ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Anděl, Petr (referee)
Thesis deals with female prisoners in the American prison system and their overall position within the system. The research question is whether the American prison system is able to reflect the increase of incarcerated females as well as the differences between needs of incarcerated males and females. Likewise, the thesis also aims at researching whether the prison system offers the care incarcerated females need. The thesis outlines a brief history of the U.S. modern prison system's origin and development as well as its current main attributes together with financing. The main part is devoted to incarcerated women, their positions and conditions that await them in the prison. Because the needs of incarcerated women differ from men's, for example regarding the health care, this thesis tries to describe their needs as well as how they differ from the needs of male inmates. An important part of the thesis is devoted to health care provision in the prison. Health care is a good example that illustrates that female inmates have different needs regarding check-ups, diagnosis and needed medications. Koňařík, Martin ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Forecast of the size and structure of the prison population in the CR Abstract: Forecasting of prison population in the Czech Republic is almost an unexplored topic. To the whole prison system as a topic is also devoted little space in the literature. The most advanced methods of forecasting of prison populations cannot be used to the Czech data, which are used in countries with a long tradition of it. The data are not connected between Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Interior, and also differ in their definitions. It is therefore necessary to use a simplified method, which correspond to the data sources. The process is also interfered with unexpected external factors such as the amnesty of the President of the Republic on the 1 January 2013. Models for convicted expected forecast decline in their number by the end of 2013 to 12 to 19 thousands. Models further assume that a decline in 2013 would take place, even if there were no amnesty. Models for the accused assume their fluctuation around the same values. Follow-up calculations show that the state would save significantly by the projection models variants and also the burden on prison officers in correctional facilities would be reduced to 2.1 to 3.2 prisoners per guard from the current 3.5 prisoners per guard. Keywords: prison projection,...
Robotka's case
Skořepová, Michaela ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Plachý, Jiří (referee)
(in English): This thesis deals with post-war fate of Josef Robotka the member of the second and third resistence and people who cooperated with him. It cannot be mentioned his activities during the Second World War in the Council of three but the key issue will be the engagement after 1945. I would describe his disenchantment with communist ideas while on Vorošilov military academy in Moscow, subsequently forced to return to Czechoslovakia and post-February intelligence cooperation with CIC. I will also try to bring the role of public authorities in the arrest, detention and trial. In the next section I would like to map the entire arrest of Robotka group, their imprisonment and trial. The following chapters will deal with Robotka's execution and the role of wives and close relatives of convicted persons. The work is based mainly on archival research, supplemented by memories of Vlasta Nováčková Jakubová who is Robotka's niece and close collaborator. Main question is how big the importance of the information that the group sent abroad was and what significance should they have in case of possible conflict.

Humpálová, Hana ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
This thesis concerns a question, if social skills of convicted men are the same as social skills of men who have been never convicted. In terms of theoretical part there is an issue of prisons closely analysed including concrete problems of Czech prison system. Except overflowing, there is a problem of high recidivism and to that related imperfect postpenitenciar care, prisonization, lack of privacy and intimity of prisoners etc. Furthermore, potential impacts of imprisoning on psychical state of prisoners are analysed - prisoners are more often apathetic, they lose social contacts to people out of the prison, they also lose a possibility to decide for themselves and their lives. In theoretical part of thesis there is also Thematic Apperception Test described. It was given to two groups of research participants - a group of convicted men and a group of never convicted men. Thematic Apperception Tests were evaluated by Social Orientation Scale afterwards. Retrieved data were interpreted in exploratory part of thesis.

The subject of this thesis is a description and analysis of life imprisonment prisoners' daily life. The thesis deals with wider integration of daily life in jail. Problems of life imprisonment, key words connected with daily reality of total institutions and jail as a formal organization are also analysed. That means that life in jail is connected to identity lost during his collision with total institution. This process of identity lost is obvious particularly in of life imprisonment prisoners. In theoretical part of this thesis I derive from references of sociologists who work with topics of total institutions, stigmatization, moral career, technique of power and other sociological concepts. I try to show the impact of punishment on one's identity, what strategies of dealing with stress prisoners use and the whole picture of prisoner's personality impacted by the isolation from outer world to the end of the life. I would like to summarize the daily routine of life imprisonment prisoner. I suppose that this thesis doesn't give unambiguous conclusions but I would like to expound this sphere and...
