The Europeization of the Czech-French relationship (1989-2009)
Brüstlová, Markéta ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Fiala, Vlastimil (referee) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The dissertation deals with the evolution of Czech-French relations after 1989 in the context of European integration. The first part sets the historical background in which the relations between the two countries are embedded and focuses on their renewal in the aftermath of the fall of the Iron Curtain. The second part deals with their development before and after the accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union and stresses the growing conflicting standpoints, interests and approaches to various European and foreign policy issues. Through the analysis of foreign policy discourse, the thesis shows how the bilateral and European levels influence and penetrate each other. It stresses furthermore that although bilateral relations remain an important part of the foreign policy, with Europeanization they became structurally weaker. The dissertation shows that Francophilia does not assume any major function and remains only on a symbolic level. The development of Czech French discourse also tells us not only about the view of one country with regard to the other but also about the geostrategic vision of both countries in Europe.

Specificity of work in sheltered workshops and possibilities of their services in the Czech republic and USA.
JINDROVÁ, Zdeňka
Taking care of people with disabilities is dated back to history. Nowadays there are many ways how to take care, socialize and integrate people with special needs. For people with some handicap there are number of fences at the same time, which are impossible to break through without help of the other people. We can also find out that people with disabilities are exposed to some kinds of discrimination. The most severe fence for those people is that they have got nearly closed access to the labour market. People with disabilities belong in disadvantaged groups at the labour market and they are suffering from long-term unemployment. Sheltered workshops are one way how to integrate those people. People with health problems and with changed working ability work there. Working in the sheltered workshops isn{\crq}t only earning money. It is also a place where especially the disabled people can become members of society and can gain new experience. I tried to find out similarities and differences in running of chosen sheltered workshops. Based on my stay in Massachusetts, USA I chose to concentrate on describing non-government, non-profit organization called Road to Responsibility, Inc. In the Czech Republic I chose for the same purpose Domov sv. Anežky, o.p.s. in Týn nad Vltavou. In theoretical part of thesis, I concentrate on the problems of disability. I am describing history of care of people with disabilities, the types of disability, socialization and last, but not least jobs opportunities and self{--}fulfillment of peoplewith disabilities. The practical section of thesis is divided into two parts. In part one I am describing running of the chosen companies and their sheltered workshops and in part two I am graphically displaying found information. I chose to do research two different ways. The first one was secondary data analysis and content analysis. I also collected information from interviews, in which I talked to employees and managers of the workshops. Before I started collecting data I chose what information I want to find out, what documents I want to study so I will get the result I wanted {--} to find out the similarities and differences of the chosen workshops in USA and in Czech Republic. The information were e.g. rights and obligations of the clients, the founders of those companies, what do they offer, personal security, qualifications of employees, rates of pay for people with disabilities and last but not least what types of workshops each organization runs. Based on the information I collected, I realized, that certain differences between Road to Responsibility and Domov sv. Anežky exists. The main difference is different rates of pay for people with disability for their work. Another difference is how the rights of clients are exercise. I can declare that both my hypothesis were correct. I am convinced, that my work points out the similarities and differences, which exist in sheltered workshops in the Czech Republic and USA. But of course it is not the whole view of how the community works.

The European standard of protection of the rights of the child - resumé In my thesis I decided to focus on the child and his rights as how they are recognized in nowadays society crosswise the countries, mainly those of the european continent. In the first chapters I deal with the evolution of the international human rights legal instruments since the beginning of the twentieth century and I discover how the legal status of the child in the society had started to develop and how it has changed during the century stages. The child was at first only a mere object and was not entitled with possesion of the full rights, even on the contrary, it was the child who was in possession of his parents. The first international human rights documents adopted, began to guarantee the protection to the children in certain ways such as against a hard labour and they put forth the first protective rights such as the access to medical treatment and the access to education. Later on, after the second world war the major international human rights treaties were adopted and since then the child was accorded full enjoyment of his rights as a citizen. Chapter two presents the core document which concentrates upon a broad scope of the civic, political, social and economic and cultural rights of the child. It is the United Nations...

Childhood in the Middle Ages
Sládek, Pavel ; Matějek, Marek (advisor) ; Eliáš, Vojtěch (referee)
Title: Childhood in the Middle Ages keywords: marriage family childhood differences between female and male children education This thesis aims to describe the life of children in the Middle Ages. Due to the woman's inferior social status, female children had a more difficult position than males. This is then reflected in access to education. While young men went to university, young women stayed at home and learnt all they would later need in their married lives. Nevertheless, differences in individual families' approach to children must not be overlooked. Royal offspring would be used to further the interests of their fathers; their childhood was therefore virtually non-existent. Children from poorer families would have to take part in their parents' labours and how much time they were able devote to children's games still remains a big unknown. Some contemporary sources mention children's games and archaeological excavations prove the existence of children's toys. However, children were generally viewed as small adults and parents would wish their small children to grow up into independent adults as soon as possible. This desire was also due to high infant and child mortality. In conclusion, although childhood would most likely have existed in the Middle Ages, it only could have done so in a...
