The history and present of affirmative action
Štědroň, Jakub ; Matějů, Martin (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (advisor)
The term affirmative action (U.S. English), or positive discrimination (British English) means positive steps taken to increase the representation of women and minorities in areas of employment, education, and business from which they have been historically excluded. In search for the roots of Affirmative action I start at the very beginning of the US history describing institutionalized forms of slavery and later on segregation to demonstrate how deep and strong this exclusion was. Since the late 1960s this expression has been used to refer to policies that go beyond the simple prohibition of discrimination on grounds of race, national origin, and sex in employment practices and educational system. These policies require some further action, affirmative action, to make jobs and promotions and admissions to educational programs available to individuals from groups that have historically suffered from discrimination. ln an effort to create an unprejudiced picture of this phenomenon of American modern society I try to open my work for arguments of both side, the proponents and the opponents of affirmative action with the awareness of how controversial this issue for American citizens is. The work however comes to an conclusion, that affirmative action programs as they are and work at the moment do not meet...

Product Information Management - the fortune hidden in product data
Bort, Tomáš ; Slánský, David (advisor) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
The exceeding supply over demand and very hard competitive conditions are nowadays the main features of the majority of sectors. A successful company is the one that is able to satisfy specific customers' needs, the one that has efficient cooperation with its suppliers throughout the whole supply chain and also the one that is able to speed up the in-house information exchange. Thus the company has to seek constantly new and innovative solutions. This is not possible without standardization and automatization of business processes. This master's thesis is dedicated to one of the possible solutions -- the Product Information Management (PIM). Since it is intended for business managers (without deep IT knowledge), at the beginning it answers the question why it is so important to know master data and to manage it. It specializes in managing product data, brings its comprehensive overview and identifies the advantages and drawbacks of the implementation as well as financial and organizational impacts. The consecutive chapter deals with simplified yet applicable approach to data management analysis (with emphasis on the PIM) and based on research, it mentions main mistakes of the implementation. In addition to the overview of main vendors of the PIM solution, it presents the latest trends in the PIM. Besides internal data synchronization, the thesis analyses several product standards -- the fundamental step towards external data synchronization, the key topic of the practical part. The whole thesis is conceived to provide an organization with a simple yet compact and therefore very effective tool for master product data insight and thus to help it to gain a competitive advantage.

Foundation and Origin of a Limited Partnership
Novotná, Eliška ; Kalinová, Miluše (advisor) ; Žák, Květoslav (referee)
It is very popular to enter a market as an entrepreneur in the Czech Republic today. A person should be knowledgeable about the Czech law and decide whether s/he intends to carry business either as a sole proprietor or as a corporation. This bachelor's work provides the information and advice how to start, when a business organization, concretely a limited partnership/Ltd., is going to be founded. There are going to be explained concrete steps that lead to a foundation and origin of a limited partnership in this work. Founders of a business organization need to form the Articles of Partnership at the beginning. They should also find suitable premises for their future corporation. The next step that is important to do is to get an entrepreneurial licence for that activity that the corporation will carry on. One of the most important steps to establish a company is to file a proposal for the incorporation of the business into the Register of Companies. When the business is registered in the Register of Companies, then it can perform its entrepreneurial activity according to the incorporation act. In case of a limited partnership/Ltd. the co-partner who is bound to a deposit duty should pay up his deposit as soon as possible after the business is incorporated. After reading the above instructions the reader may think that the establishment and origin of a company is quite easy. I hope s/he will recognize that it is necessary to be well informed about legal procedures for establishment of a business at the end of this bachelor's work. The mere existence of a company itself is not sufficient. The business must find its customers and reach its target. For that reason it is essential to create an entrepreneurial plan and a marketing strategy for a concrete company. Thus, an entrepreneur should combine the knowledge of law and economics if s/he wants to be successful in the market.

Modern Methods in Marketing
Jandová, Pavlína ; Hesková, Marie (advisor) ; Tomek, Ivan (referee)
Traditional marketing methods are losing their effectiveness and credibility. It has been worse and worse to communicate with customers, and marketers are therefore looking for new techniques and way how to appeal buyers. They turn to the use of modern marketing methods, which typical features are possibility of accurate targeting and low costs, and, also, the fact that they are still not considered being a classic promotion. In the theoretical part of the diploma thesis the alternative marketing forms are described; word-of-mouth, product placement, guerilla marketing, mobile marketing, event marketing and social marketing. Their main features, forms, pros and cons are analyzed, and a practical example is included. The analytic part of the work is dedicated to a company of Budějovický Budvar, n. p. and a launch of a new product Pardál to the Czech beer market at the beginning of 2007. This very important step in the history of the Budějovický Budvar brewery was preceded by a detailed company strategic marketing analysis. This resulted in a decision of an unusual and original new product development and brand launch based on event and buzz marketing principles. The opportunity to influence the final attributes of the new product was given to the very customers -- beer drinkers. They participated in a project called "My New Beer" where the final taste and name of the beer was determined, and they also cooperated at a launch communication campaign of the Pardál brand in the Czech Republic. Significant sales and marketing results were achieved, and the unoriginal product development process and its marketing have been discussed by marketing specialists and professional media since. The brand has entrenched in the Czech beer market and has strengthened its position.

Anthropogenesis of consciousness
Bažant, Jan ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor)
What is a development of consciousness of modern human being, i.e. with species Homo sapiens sapiens? The beginning step alone, how to define the inquired object in the research, brings considerable problems and discrepancies in different conceptions and approaches, there is the reason why it is important to answer another question at the first. How to qualify consciousness? In the part "Theories of consciousness ", in the chapter "Formation the term" I try to give a brief succession of particular conceptions about consciousness and a view of contemporary theories of consciousness posted up with the critical reflection. I am interested especially of the development so in the chapter "Development of consciousness" I summarize the up to now findings about evolution of hominids till the top species Homo sapiens. I mention some theoretical approaches there and critical survey of terms. In the last chapter of the first part, I inquire after reasons to qualify the culture as potential equivalent of consciousness. I appoint the culture as an expression of consciousness in outer world that is comparable as well as deducible into history and pre-history. What is possible to deduce from consciousness is possible generally to describe as products of psychic behavior (not only in pure behavioral sense).

Diagnostika toku v kanále za náhlým rozšířením
Tihon, Jaroslav
A backward-facing step flow is studied by measuring the instantaneous wall shear rate along the channel certenline. A two-step electrodiffusion probe is applied to provide information on the flow direction in the near-wall region. The wall shear rate profiles behind the step are measured and the position of reattachment point detected. The Reynolds numbers examined cover the laminar, transient and beginning of turbulent flow regime. The results are found to be in a good agreement with the experimental and numerical data previously published for the same channel geometry.
