Chabarovová, Renáta
The topic of the thesis is "Writing in a scout club". The work was developed on the basis of a qualitative research in the Prague Girl Club, which was attended by fourteen children and was led by two leaders. The foundations of this work comprised gathered materials and also information obtained in discussions and observations. The task of the work was to find out what types of texts were present in the club and who contributed to their writing and also outline the functions fulfilled by the writing production. At the beginning, all texts occurring in the club were classified and most significant materials were selected (chronicles, diaries, literary texts of mandatory and voluntary production), which were then analysed in detail both with respect to form and content. Major functions, which result from their development, were also identified for each group of texts. It came out that the work with texts in the club was systematic and children learnt new literary genres and different writing procedures than they were used to from their family or school. They work with the texts both individually and together in groups. Therefore, social activity is a significant stimulus for development...

Boďová, Michaela ; Kukla, Pavel (referee) ; Lipský, Zdeněk (advisor)
The objective of this study is to map, classify and evaluate abandoned areas which are in the southern part of Černokostelecko. It begins with an examination of theories relating to abandoned land and landscape change. The study of abandoned land is rarely included in scientific studies. In the next part, applied part, were mapped coverage of wood species, former use, dominant plants and lenght of abandonment. The abandoned areas were classified and distributed according to their character. It was focused on floodplains of Jevanský and Vlkančický stream. It was found out that high proportion of abandoned areas are situated in floodplains. Most of these areas were formerly in use as pastures or meadows. The lenght of abandonment differs, but the majority date from after 1990, co-inciding with the instance of great economic and political change. Abandoned areas in floodplains has relatively low coverage of the wood species, whereas in areas outside floodplains, coverage of the wood species is considerably higher and it is probable that areas areas outside of floodplains will in future, be covered by forest. William Faulkner's Light in August: constructing race in the community
Jelínková, Karolína ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (referee) ; Ulmanová, Hana (advisor)
When William Faulkner was born on September 25, 1897, he entered the times of the high tide of racial extremism that marked the post-Reconstruction era and the beginning of the 20th century. The small domestic world of the Falkner family William lived in as a small boy also afforded him contact with racial differences, most memorably through the servant of the Falkner family - Caroline Barr. This was a harmonious contact. The Falkner boys called Caroline "Mammy" Callie; "she cooked, she cleaned, and she cared for them but most of all the boys liked her stories - of animals in the woods, ghosts, and the 'Old Days' of slavery. The boys loved her dearly" (Williamson, William Faulkner and Southern History 153). However, William was soon confronted with the other side of the racially divided world. This must have happened most powerfully in the year 1908, when Oxford, Mississippi witnessed the lynching of Nelse Patton, "a black convict, but also [ ... ] a 'trusty'" (Williamson, William Faulkner and Southern History 157) who was allowed to run errands all over the town. He killed Mattie McMillan, a white woman, to whom he delivered a message, but refused to leave her house. She attempted to draw a pistol, but he stopped her and "drew a razor blade across [her] throat [ ... ], almost severing her head from her...

The role of metaphoric representation in the relation of man to transcendence
Stehlíková, Hana ; Horský, Jan (advisor) ; Marek, Jakub (referee)
The thesis deals with the topic of a relation of the human being to transcendence through the concept of metaphor and metaphorical representation. It begins with the comparison of two philosophical systems, namely the ones of Immanuel Kant and Friedrich Nietzsche, whose conceptions are in thesis connected through the question of the limits of human understanding and the relation between the process of thinking and language. The thesis deals with those questions from the point of view of the philosophical concept of the metaphor. This concept, its history and implications are the main topics for the last two chapters. The conclusion will offer two opposite positions, symbolism and idealism. We can find those positions retrospectively in the mentioned works of Kant and Nietzsche thanks to the theory of Jacques Derrida in the final part of the thesis, but we also come to the assumption that their opposition will remain undecided.

PIFA Antenna design for GSM band
Kollár, Marcel ; Čapek, Miloslav (referee) ; Kadlec, Petr (advisor)
The main topic of this diploma thesis is a design of the PIFA antenna working in GSM bands. In the beginning there is a brief analysis of planar antennas. The thesis describes PIFA antenna and the techniques for minimization of dimensions of the antenna. Essential part of the thesis is dedicated to multicriterial optimalizaton of the antenna shape. The genetic algorithm programmed in the MATLAB enviroment cooperates with a full-wave solver CST to obrain desired impedance matching of the antenna its radiationt paterns. Also dimensions of the antenna can be minimized using the optimization procedure. Final part of the thesis compares measured data of the optimalized antenna with results obtained in CST Microwave Studio.
