Anticipatory "it" objects
Filipová, Anežka ; Malá, Markéta (advisor) ; Šaldová, Pavlína (referee)
The present study focuses on object extraposition in English based on an analysis of corpus findings. The construction in question comprises a monotransitive verb complemented by it which anticipates an object nominal content clause introduced by the conjunctions that, when or if/whether, immediately juxtaposed to the anticipatory it. The aim of the study is to determine the types and frequency of verbs which occur with object it extraposition and to describe what factors influence the use of anticipatory it. The study first provides a review of the relevant topics and outlines a summary of possible factors influencing the occurrence of the construction under study. It focuses on the properties of the verb and complements, the nature of object extraposition in English and the realisations of the object function, and lastly, it outlines the possible factors leading to the use of anticipatory it object. The research part of the study consists of two parts. The first one deals with the selection of material and methodology, while the second presents the description and analysis of the findings. The primary main part of the research was conducted on the data containing 836 sentences that were drawn from the British National Corpus. The research shows that the most frequent verbs occurring with...

The Italian gerund and its Czech equivalents: a parallel-corpus based study
Jarkovská, Jana ; Štichauer, Pavel (advisor) ; Špaček, Jiří (referee)
The Italian gerund and its Czech equivalents: a parallel-corpus based study The Italian gerund is a frequent indefinite verbal form. It's usually used in different verbal constructions or in implicit phrases. In those it can have various functions. We can classify gerundio modale, strumentale, temporale, causale, ipotetico, concessivo and gerundio coordinato. In this study is used a Czech-Italian parallel corpus InterCorp to analyze the gerund closer. It was found out that the most frequent gerunds in italian texts are these: facendo, cercando, guardando, dicendo, parlando, essendo, lasciando, pensando, avendo, passando, seguendo, andando, ridendo, sorridendo, indicando, vedendo, diventando, tenendo, correndo and dando. A sub-corpus, texts by I. Calvino, was chosen in order to compare these most common forms in general with the most frequent gerunds from single texts. The study analyzes particular examples of the gerunds, their functions and their translations into the Czech language in this sub-corpus. The different types of translations are classified according to the classification made by S. Hamplová in her Mluvnice italštiny (Italian Grammar). In accordance with this source the gerund in the sub-corpus is mostly translated by a coordinated or subordinated phrase, a nominal construction or by a...

Estimation of VaR in Risk Management by Employing Economic News in GARCH Models
Šindelka, Ondřej ; Baruník, Jozef (advisor) ; Jakubík, Petr (referee)
We examined the influence of news, related to the main central banks, on the conditional volatility of the stock returns of eighteen major European banks. We model their conditional volatility with GARCH, EGARCH and TGARCH models plugging in variables representing news. As a practical application we evaluate whether applying the news into the volatility modeling improves the performance of the Value-at-Risk (VaR) measure for given banks. The two types of news variables we use are constructed from the press releases of main central banks and from the search query at Factiva Dow Jones news database. The information contained in news is proxied by daily news counts. Using the EGARCH setup we are able to model individual volatility reaction functions of the banks' stock returns to different news variables. We show that the content, origin of the news and also the amount of news (news count) matter to the conditional volatility behavior. The results confirm that increase in the amount of media coverage causes increase in volatility. Certain news types have calming effect (speeches of the central banks' representatives) on volatility while others stir it (monetary news). Finally, we conclude that adding the news into the modeling only slightly improves the VaR out-of-sample performance.

Interpolace hladkých funkcí pomocí kvadratických a kubických splinů
Eckstein, Jiří ; Kučera, Václav (advisor) ; Dolejší, Vít (referee)
In this thesis, we study properties of cubic and quadratic spline interpolation. First, we define the notions of spline and interpolation. We then merge them to study cubic and quadratic spline interpolations. We go through the individual spline interpolation types, show an algorithm for constructing selected types and sum up their basic properties. We then present a computer program based on the provided algorithms. We use it to construct spline interpolations of some sample functions and we calculate errors of these interpolation and compare them with theoretical estimates.

Linguistic means of present french language in the field of ecology
Hrbková, Olga ; Loucká, Hana (advisor) ; Štichauer, Jaroslav (referee)
Professional style includes scientific style, practical-expert style and popular educational style. The intial theoretical introduction is followed by an analysis on four levels: pragmatic, discursive, the theme-rheme structure and lexical-syntactic. The analysis i s based on a comparison of texts which belong to various areas of professional style and thematically pertain to the subject of ecology. Description of linguistic means is used as a foundation for the analysis on the syntactic and lexical level as well as the analysis of specific features in syntactic, morphological and lexical structure: - syntactic approach examines the use of various sentential constructions and word order in relation to the standards of professional style; - morphological approach focuses on the use of grammatical tenses and grammatical moods - lexical approach surveys the use ofterminology and word-forming process. The method applied determines specific requirements for analysis on individua! levels: on the pragmatic level we study pragmatic factors ofthe communication act. On discursive level we describe overall organization and types oftextual units. On the theme-rheme structure we focus on the arrangement of semantic components within a sentence from the functional sentence perspective and the potential of these...

Memory of the place "I will return there"
Jušková, Kamila ; Cikánová, Karla (advisor) ; Synecký, Jakub (referee)
The thesis "Memory of the place" is focused on seeking for the points of thematic support - the attributes of the landscape, that would characterize selected places within the region of Czech Switzerland, Elbe Sandstones and Luzic Mountains and help to the visualization of the landscape by means of photography and also to the subsequent creative paraphrase. In the thesis the selected place is characterized by the double type of the geological structure - on the one hand those are the sediments of sandstone and on the other hand eruptive rocks of the crystalic basalt. These two types of structures then subsequently serve to the creative shifts in the practical and pedagogical part of the thesis. The sandstone varied in shape and colour (the principle of destruction, expression) and on the contrary the monochrome firmly construed basalt (the principle of construction) are shown in the different relations with the other attributes of this landscape, e. g. with water, vegetation and influence of the man. At the same time the elements of time, light and motion are projected into their metamorphoses.

Burnout of nurses working at ambulatory workplaces
Šedivá, Petra ; Hlaváčová, Marie (advisor) ; Marková, Eva (referee)
This dissertation is focused on incidence and intensity of burnout by nurses working at ambulatory workplaces. It is divided in two parts - theoretical and experimental. Theoretical part contains burnout explanation as a term, its symptoms, risk factors, prevention and treatment. It also stresses on character (feature) of nurses work at ambulatory places. At experimental part there is found influence of individual factors on burnout level by nurses working at ambulatory and specialized workplaces. Two questionaires are used for experimental part: own construction questionaire and official questionaire Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The aim of own construction questionaire is to track risk factors of burnout. MBI questionaire finds out level of burnout in 3 areas: emotion exhausting, personality loss and working performance (efficiency) reducing (decreasing). This part also contains directed interview that completes the main part of research by it's questions.

Veľasová, Lenka ; Pikhart, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Chmelová, Pavla (referee)
In this bachelor dissertation work is studied the use of regression analysis of wage development. This analyse the situation before and after possible impact of the antidiscrimination law on the wage situation of women and men in the labor market. The theoretical part is intended construction of work concepts such as equality, discrimination and its types and forms. Together with clarifying the content of the antidiscrimination law passed in 2009. The practical part contains an analysis of the macroeconomic situation for the period 2005-2014 and analysis of the factors directly affecting the level of wages. Attention is given to the period after 2009, which should theoretically lead to the improvement in the wage situation of women and eliminate discrimination. Although, we follow a very strong correlation between the examined factors and wages, wage differences are objectively justified and therefore we cannot talk about discrimination. This is justified by numbers which demonstrates the ineffectiveness of the anti-discrimination law.
