Slovak Anti-Jewish Legislation in the Years 1938 - 45 and its Application in Practice
Paleček, Lukáš ; Kuklík, Jan (advisor) ; Kindl, Vladimír (referee)
Although the Holocaust (a word for suffering of millions of individual people of vastness that stretches beyond our imagination) is a rather distressing topic I chose to carry out this re- search for two reasons, which prevailed. First, the experience shows that extreme situations reveal many latent features of human psyche - studying them is tempting. Second, the Holo- caust is a morally and politically important and still topical theme because not forgetting evil is a manner of its prevention. The purpose of my thesis is to analyse anti-Jewish law (and briefly also anti-Gypsies law) in Slovakia in the years 1938-45 and to present the idea that the tragedy of the Holocaust did not merely have causes, which can be described as political or economic or exclusively psychiat- ric (which is perhaps the most dangerous simplification), but that a significant part of what happened is explainable from the point of view of social psychology. To integrate researches in the two aforementioned scientific disciplines (legal history and so- cial psychology) in a coherent unit I chose to use the Czech penal law's concept of elements of crime. There are five elements of crime and my thesis consists of five chapters with accord- ing titles: Object of the Holocaust, Objective aspect of the Holocaust, Subject of the...

Interpretation of Place - Landscape Park Veltrusy
Matolínová, Barbora ; Marcelli, Miroslav (advisor) ; Váša, Ondřej (referee)
Diploma thesis deals with possibilities of interpretation of landscape park type ornamented farm in Veltrusy castle area in the current context. Park is treated as an artificial place, which function changes in the course of history. The concept of space is used in the sense of meaningful place, which one can understand and be identified with. In the empirical part, we try to reveal the primary structure and characteristic motifs of the park, which are important for the interpretation of its meanings in new historical context, so as to maintain its identity and dynamics. As the text has as many interpretations as readers, so has the park as many interpretations as visitors. Park enters into an ongoing dialogue with its users, but in the changing historical context. The aim of this work is not an effort to create "one holistic" interpretation of the park, but to provide the basis for individual interpretation. In conclusion we consider the possibility to convey the structure and nature of the park to visitors and make them more responsive to the identity of the park and give them the possibility of individual interpretation.

Ordinary Life in the Royal Town Louny at the End of the 16th Century
Paterová, Petra ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Roedl, Bohumír (referee)
The history of everyday life is an interesting historical branch, which brings the researcher a lot of information about family, work, entertainment, problems and other things that surround everyone and every day. In the same way, these things have influenced lives of our ancestors. The fascination with ordinary lives of early modern history is actually a desire to get to know oneself. Despite the fact that the outlook on everyday things may have changed during the centuries, what has not changed were the topics. The libri testimoniorum are a more than suitable source of information for everyday life research. Owing to the testimonies of the witnesses of the particular trials, the books unwittingly reveal many details about the life of early modern towns. Studies of these books bring motivation for researching not only the everyday history, but also culture and mentality history. Last but not least, it is important to mention research into criminality of early modern towns.

Reflections of the deleuzian "time-image" in the films of Andrei Tarkovsky and of Alain Resnais
Konoreva, Evguenia ; Armand, Louis (referee) ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (advisor)
During the twentieth century, cinematography matured into an independent and potent form of art. Film as a sequence of images caught in continuity presents a unique tool of capturing time; it allows the viewer to observe the manipulation of temporal and of spatial values, which before was not possible in the arts. Furthermore, the technical and aesthetic conceptualization of cinematography was evolutionarily developing during its short history and, according to Deleuze, saw a major break after Citizen Kane (1941)and most forcefully following the Second World War. This break resulted in the emergence of the so-called 'time-image', which in its essence reveals a radical alienation of the individual in contemporary society, but seeks to establish a new philosophy of space and time in a disorientated post-war world. The present analyses of the films chosen in this project aimed at revealing the new realities created by our two chosen film-makers. These realities echo the complexity and ambiguity of the contemporary individuality; these are the realities of a post-war subjectivity, one that is at one stroke both questioned and fragmented. Both Alain Resnais and Andrei Tarkovsky, whose bodies of work were conditioned by the emergence of a new post-modern consciousness, created a new cinematic style and also...

Changes of narrative technique in Kageró Nikki
Miko, Michael ; Švarcová, Zdeňka (referee) ; Tirala, Martin (advisor)
My thesis Changes of Narrative Technique in Kager Nikki attempts to analyse one of the first Japanese literary diaries (nikki), of mid 10th century, and one of the so-called four great literary diaries of the Heian period (794-1185), in terms of narrative techniques used by its author, known today as "the Mother of Mitchitsuna." Introduction, containing the purpose, objectives and method of my thesis, and my introductory remarks on the theory of narration are followed by a summary of some basic biographical data of the author where it was my ambition to concisely outline her life story and to review both her literary work and legacy. This leads to another section, which strives to further organise relevant information on the diary and to define it in the context of literary history. Approximately one third through, the thesis begins to describe in more general terms the diary's structure with regard to its story build-up and the emphasis on gradual transformation of writer's prosaic style, inseparably intertwined with the diary's storyline. Subsequently, the analysis reveals some narrative techniques typically used by the writer, in an attempt to describe them and as a result to underpin their alterations in time. Concluding remarks try to definitively assess the overall relevance of the methods used. Annex...

Jan Boris Spacek 1888-1967. Native of Stepanov in Russia, Bulgaria and the Near East
Turkovič, Alexander ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
This bachelor work concentrates on the life, work, and political activities of Stepanov native Jan Spacek, who was a permanent revolutionary, rebel and crusader for dreams and ideals. This is a probe into the life of a man, who did not enter history as a grand personality of policy or warfare, but who in some ways influenced the great events of his time and was simultaneously transformed by them. The author trys to reveal his reasons for a positive attitude to revolution and half-hearted approach to his family. With the aid of many archived documents, the reasons for his thirty three years in Russia, Bulgaria and the Near East, and his real or ostensible intelligence activity for the Soviet Union, are investigated. Thanks to the collation of many archive sources (both personal and official) there are many different recollections by the people around him. These views differ by their relationship to him or ulterior motives.
