Towards the Boundaries of Fictional Narrative

My thesis examines the nature of contemporary fictional narration and explores its relations to other types of narration - mainly texts where educational or informative function prevails over the aesthetic one. The whole work is divided into four parts. The first part is theoretical; it sets up basic areas of interest and names methods, tools and models that will be tested on selected examples from Slavonic literatures. The second part analyses spatial and temporal relations of fictional narrative. Chapter 2.1 treats time and space in a novel mostly from the compositional point of view (based on the example of Sasha Sokolov's A School for Fools), while in the next chapter, focusing on ideational interconnections between literary and social- political utopias, both fictionality and temporality are understood more broadly than mere narrative categories: they serve as certain points of connection between the immanent occurrence of meaning in the "world of text" and its historical background. The third part continues in this direction, only what we mean by context here is not the collective historical background, but an individual sphere of everyday life. Multilingualism in sound film

This thesis deals with issues of multilingualism, i. e. appearance of two or more different languages, in a film. The first part of the thesis provides an introduction to the theory of communication, then follows a brief look at the character of film communication, i. e. its primary and secondary stucture. The second part concerns with multilingualism on both levels of communication in film discourse. The author discusses filmmaker's intentions related to comprehension or incomprehension of a foreign-language text and establishes the functions of multilingualism. The following parts research three separate film categories whose classification is based on types of languages that appear in film. The first category embraces films in that several different real spoken languages figure, the second one includes films where real spoken language and fictional language appear, films of the third category present spoken language and means of communication used by deaf people. Bilingualism on Social Networks: The Use of Czech, English and other languages among Czech users of Facebook

The main goal of this thesis is to find and describe the evidence of bilingual communication of English language among Czech users of the social network Facebook. A qualitative method of both text document and semi-structured interviews with six active users was used to describe the type of bilingualism which occurs in the social media environment, in what situations and what is the user's motivation behind it. Therefore the main theoretical approaches I focus on are bilingualism and its place in the Czech Republic and the role of the English language in this socio-culture context. Furthermore I study the communication in an online environment: what are the specifications and what role does the CMC (computer-mediated-communication) play in relationship of the language and the user. Finally, I search for previous studies in the field of online bilingualism, social media preferably. The results show not only the Czech users are well situated within the discourse of English as (online) lingua franca, moreover they seem to be very active in self-imposed code-switching into the English language. The data acquired through the interviews helped to identify bilingualism occurs on both levels of code-switching and code-mixing. Additionally, Anglicism's in the Czech language were reported widely.
Multilingual Compensatory Strategies of Czech Native Speakers in English

The proposed thesis treats the topic of multilingual language acquisition and the occurring language interference. It aims to demonstrate the negative language transfer by the means of the results of a field research. The theoretical part introduces and discusses relevant topics, such as language learning, language processing, bilingualism and multilingualism. Furthermore, it focuses on the character of language transfer itself. In the practical part, two hypotheses are presented, specifically "the interference of the dominant foreign language is considerably higher than the interference of the other language, i.e. L3" and "passive interference reaches a higher degree than the active one". Eventually, the results interpretation is presented and both the hypotheses are verified.
The advantages and disadvantages of mastering the foreign language from the perspective of mono- and multilingualism in the society

The Bachelor thesis deals with comparison of advantages and disadvantages of using the foreign language. The theoretical part describes the principle of multilingualism and the European concept of multilingualism, it also indicates the development of the foreign languages education in the Czech Republic in the last thirty Years. The current situation is assessed, especially the use of German language. The data are analysed, evaluated and the recommendation is determined.

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the language regime of the European Union in practice. The focus of this bachelor thesis is the comparison of the availability of documents in Czech, French and English on the website of the European Economic and Social Committee. The theoretical part of this work focuses on basic information about the Union's institutional system with inclusion of the European Economic and Social Committee in it and it describes the issue of multilingualism of the European Union. The practical part deals with the visual appearance of the web pages and then with the analysis of the found documents. In the end, the obtained results of the analysis are accordingly evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively.
The established practices in inclusive education in Germany

The thesis deals with the issue of the integration of established practices in inclusive education. As a target country for processing has been selected the Federal Republic of Germany. The first part deals with basic facts about migration of foreigners to Germany with the respect of current events. It also addresses the topic of integration, where are mapped the general integration efforts from the government, organizations and volunteers. Then the thesis is focused on the issue of provision of language courses and inclusive education for children of foreigners. These theoretical parts are complemented by real observations from the German environment. Final theoretical part is about multilingualism, with an emphasis on teaching the main language in the classes for foreigners, qualification and competence of teachers, principles and methods of teaching the second language which is relevant for these classes. The practical part creates the concept of teaching immigrant children by using theoretical information. It includes intercultural aspects and the most intensive way, how to transmit the information. Last part contains description of teaching course, which was implemented in practice.
Android Application for Learning Vocabulary

In thesis you can find basic common theory relevant to this problem, analyze of existing solutions, design of basic architecture and description of detail implementation.  Program is based on SQLite database and is optimized for devices with different size of screen.
Economic Impact of Multilingualism in the EU

The objective of the thesis is to analyse the questions of multilingualism in the EU from a large range of aspects, in particular from the one associated with its economic impact. The thesis aims to find answers to the questions concerning the necessity or uselessness of a large number of the EU official languages, the impact of multilingualism on its competitiveness and the future of multilingualism in the EU. The first chapter introduces the context of multilingualism in the EU from the administrative, political, juridical, historical and philological points of view. It also shows the development of the EU multilingualism policy. The most important second chapter focuses on the economic aspects of multilingualism in the EU. It analyses the controversial case of the unified European patent and its translations, the ELAN study exploring the effects of insufficient foreign language skills in enterprise on European economy and lastly the report of the Business Forum on multilingualism considering the impact of language skills on business and employment in the EU. The third chapter depicts the main goals of the actual EU strategy for multilingualism in a broader, not only economic context. The fourth chapter is a practical study prepared by the author which presents opinions of 25 Czech specialists working with EU languages of the questions considered in the first three chapters. The thesis confirms the necessity of retaining the actual number of EU official langages, mainly for political reasons. It also points out the economic potential involved in the foreign languages which would -- under certain circumstances -- strenghten the competitiveness of the EU. In the future the multilingualism is expected to be retained and even more encouraged by the EU institutions, member states and by the private sector with the objective of a better utilization of its potential.
