Henry of Carinthia as a Czech king in the light of contemporary narrative sources
Razim, Jakub ; Žemlička, Josef (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eva (referee)
The aim of the presented thesis is to show how the personality of Henry of Carinthia was reflected by contemporary narrative sources including primarily annals, chronicles and a court poetry. We focus mainly on his Czech reign in the years 1306 - 1310, which is in our opinion a very controversial topic in the Czech historiography. The picture of this period is strongly influenced by the chronicle of Peter of Žitava who was a great political opponent of the regime established by Henry of Carinthia in the Czech lands. His attitude towards king Henry is therefore remarkably hostile. We suppose that Peter used certain literary pattems, so-called topoi, to describe the personality of Henry of Carinthia, especiaHy those caHed rex-tyrannus and rex-puer that can be commonly found in the medievalliterature. In order to point out similarities between these topoi and the picture of Henry of Carinthia in the chronicle of Peter of Žitava we make use of an anonymous treatise De duodecim abusivis saeculi that was written down in Ireland in the 7th century. A completely different attitude takes on the contrary the court poetry written in the alpine countries that describes Henry of Carinthia as an ideal knight, which is another widespread topos in the middle Ages. Between these two extremes many other historical sources...

Portrayal of war prisoners in american media after the election of Barack Obama
Jelínek, Jiří ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
The US attitude towards the prisoners of war, more accurately its media portrayal, is the main theme of this bachelor thesis. The main goal of this thesis is to find out whether this attitude in real situation corresponds with the similar attitude in the US movies and series. The real one has been changing significantly since 2001 depending on the Afghanistan and Iraq situation, and also on the decisions of the Supreme Court of the US and the people opinion. This thesis is based on official documents of the US administration as well as on several movies (24, Homeland, Zero Dark Thirty and Ghosts of Abu Ghraib). The essential thesis whether the real attitude was reflected in the movies was generally confirmed, however the differences between pictures were considerable, therefore the overall generalization is not possible.

The 20th century muralism in Mexico
Binková, Petra ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee)
As I was trying to suggest in this text, the cultural value of mural production is political in the sense that it responds to interests and motives of the social world and intends to transform the space which it occupies. When doing so, such visual works orient itself toward the construction of its own public. The mural process that aspires to create mural art must therefore be multiple and combined. A similar thought has been pointed out by Bruce Campbell his book Mexican Murals in Times of Crisis: [Mural practice must be] making its commitments and negotiating compromises within the balance of social forces; attempting to fix in some manner the social context in which it takes place; hailing a more or less broad sector of the social milieu; and seeking out some meaningful figure with an eye toward symbolic consensus, or "no man's land" capable of negotiating through perspectival conflicts over the space of the work.,,161 Only by attention to the practical components of muralism does it become possible to recognize a contextual variety of mural work. In fact, these are nothing more than distinct modes of formal compromise between the production of the mural image and its public. An alternative delineation of contemporary muralism is thus at the same time a delineation of practical accomplishments...

Schmied, Marten ; Štěrbová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Mevenkamp, Nils (referee)
Public healthcare provision is under increasing economic restraints making an efficient and sustainable managerial planning a necessity in the hospital sector. Business Intelligence is the extraction of business relevant knowledge in order to adjust and refine executive operations. On the free market industries have applied the according methods and software dedicated to the generation of Business Intelligence is offered by variety of companies. Data Mining, furthermore, describes the facilitation of algorithms in order to train programs to detect unseen patterns from huge amounts of data. Therefore mining techniques are suitable for adding to the business relevant knowledge, particularly as they can produce more accurate predictions. The thesis examined the status of Information Technology normally utilized in Austrian hospitals and simultaneously identified studies that apply Data Mining to a Hospital Information System to gain Business Intelligence. While the general level of Austrian Hospital Information Systems is well sophisticated, common challenges are present in a separation between clinical and administrative systems and their interfaces. For the Data Mining a majority of studies aims at medical improvements. Some applications were found to have good business relevant prospects but their feasible introduction into the practice needs additional fostering.

Taxation of income from dependent services in Norway and in Czech republic
Chadraba, Filip ; Sedmihradská, Lucie (advisor) ; Martínková, Lenka (referee)
The reason for making this bachelor thesis for me was interest in finding out in which of the selected countries employees bear more of a tax burden, thus in what country employees have a higher disposable income. I have set an aim to describe theoretically the taxation of income from dependent service in the Norwegian tax system after reform in 2016. Special attention is also dedicated to rights of citizens of the European Economic Area who work in the Kingdom of Norway. Source of information was especially the Norwegian Tax Administration website. In the practical part I have focused on comparing the average tax burden according to OECD methodology in both countries in the current year 2016. The actual calculated results of average tax burden were in addition compared with the average tax burden which were published by the OECD in book called Taxing Wages 2015. Examples also serve as a demonstration of the algorithm for calculating tax in the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Norway. Calculated results showed that employees, except for one type of household, pay more to the public budget in the Kingdom of Norway than in the Czech Republic. The tax burden of households is significantly affected by child benefit. Households with children have lower average tax burden. Personal income taxes are constructed in each country quite differently. On one hand the Czech tax system prefers tax credits, on the other hand the Norwegian tax system, where is huge redistribution of wealth, prefers deductions.

Brummerová, Zuzana ; Čechura, Lukáš (advisor)
The Econometric analysis of the determinants of demand for coffee in Czech Republic assesses the impact of selected factors on coffee consumption in the selected period. The thesis is devided into two main parts. The first theoretical part describes the general character of econometric analysis, its goals and its partial methods. This part also discusses the characteristics of the analyzed commodity and it is coffee. The second practical part assesses what factors significantly affect the consumption of coffee, determines dependence of coffee consumption on the determinants of demand and finally derives forecasts of coffee consumption in future periods.
